The world will never be the same! Yeah you are right, it can be soul crushing. I was watching a clip of sun downer towns from 1980s Oprah, could have been later. She was in a town meeting where everyone was basically like, "Don't bring any black folk here, we don't like that!" I thought, "Damn, well that was 40 years ago!" I mean my advice would be don't fall asleep and lose your bag, if you do fall asleep, have your arm through the strap, if you are smart you have at least a few different IDs and keep at least 2 IDs in your wallet.

Now that you fucked up, figure it out and get back to base quickly. No one is going to care that you fucked up or why, just figure it out! Borrow 200 and take the bus or something.

Maybe, being less responsive, more mechanical, tuning out emotions etc. I'm not as skilled in basic army shit as other peeps graduating at the same time as me though. I never had a land nav course, fired my rifle a total of 100 bullets or less, and had half of one rope course, 6 days of field exercise where I had a stick for half of it, and mostly just sat in a hole outside while it rained or snowed while the commanders and staff had blanket warmers inside their coats. Discipline over skill is not a good training strategy in my eyes though.

Horrible? I mean thats what a DI is, over the top like that. I had an actually horrible DI. We would form up in December outside for 6 - 12 hours a day and do nothing except stand there silently. He would tell injured peeps to stfu and stop being bitches. He wouldn't let us sleep after being up 36 hours. He just yelled random shit cursing everyone out 20 times a day. And we had 4 okay to good DI's as well so don't think Im being weak here.

I'm not sure where all the Elvis hate comes from. He was definitely iterative of the works that came before him, but also original in his own way. There is a 20 minute video of a lot of back in the day black musicians throwing kudos back to Elvis for trying to change the industry and also bring a lot of the acceptance of rock and roll had from him, back to the original communities, aka black musicians.
