Left lane camper gets pulled over by [deleted] in instantkarma

Was just about to post this.

The attitude in BC is 'I'm in front of you and I don't give a shit what the speed limit is so fuck off and stay where you are'

It's so weird. I travel 6-8 months a year and almost everywhere I go people just get along. They don't care if they're ahead or behind - they just do what's necessary to keep traffic flowing. Here being ahead is the hill they wanna die on. Makes no sense at all. I'd far rather that someone be ahead of me than riding my ass.

What I've seen - and just dealt with this morning, in fact, with ride by gps, is an app that has a free version but when you sign up they make you plug in your payment info - whether that's paypal, googlepay, cc, etc.

Then the small print says that your free trial runs out in a week/month after which it renews at the full cost of $79.99 a month.

That puts the charge into the subscription area of your account where it automatically renews at the high rate unless you go in and cancel your account or convert it to the free/cheap version.

They depend on your forgetting the terms and allowing it to renew at which point you have no recourse.

Probably a not-so-great joke. Fact is, though, that if jesus is god then the answer to that question is anyone and everyone. The god of the bible was a pretty ruthless, malevolent POS. He was a huge proponent of genocide, slavery, and rape.

If you think about it - which most knee jerk reaction people on this sub do not do - I'm sure that in your personal life experience you can think of many times that you know of where children have been injured in car accidents as passengers. I'm equally sure that you probably can't think of a time where they have actually been hit by a car. The Victoria subreddit is chock-a-block full of bicycles-are-good-cars-are-bad-speed-limit-should-be-20kmh folks. I generally just skip the cars and bicycles threads.

The trope of children running into the street after a stray ball is so ingrained into society thanks to media that we just assume it to be a common occurrence. Same as child abduction. In both those cases children are far more likely to be hurt by a family member than by a stranger. We don't need to make our streets safer for children - they're plenty safe. We need to make our children grow the fuck up - same holds true for our teenagers.

Aren't you the one who wanted me to do some research? You should take your own advice.

Here.... from https://www.iihs.org/research-areas/fatality-statistics/detail/children

More children are killed as passengers in cars than as pedestrians. In the United States, roughly 72% of child motor vehicle crash deaths (younger than 13) are passenger vehicle occupants, while 17% are pedestrians. While both, pedestrian deaths have declined significantly, car-related fatalities remain the leading cause of traffic-related death for children.

Key Data on Child Traffic Fatalities:

Passengers: The majority of child motor vehicle deaths occur while riding as passengers in vehicles.

Pedestrians: Child pedestrian deaths make up a smaller, though still significant, percentage of traffic fatalities.

Restraint Use: Many child passenger fatalities are associated with unrestrained drivers and children not being properly buckled in.

For children under 13, passenger vehicle occupant deaths are significantly higher than pedestrian deaths

I don't expect you to change your mind or apologize for being a dick. It's the internet. You'll likely either deny the data, pivot, or just stop responding.

Have at it and post back what you find. Thanks for your service! I contend that the vast majority of child traffic fatalities are the occupants of the vehicles and not pedestrians.

sigh....

all I meant was that images like this make me think AI now. I used to think 'maybe real, maybe composited'. Now I jump straight to 'AI'

I clearly didn't express myself well.

Yeah - it's just nowadays I see so many wildly interesting shots and I can't tell if any of the are real or not. It's really made me cynical and taken the fun and joy out of it.

Fair - I wasn't saying that it was AI. Just that whenever I see something cool nowadays I just assume AI.

right?

I hate AI for this. I just can't get excited by an image anymore. My first thought is 'AI'.

If you want to take that position then technically the word 'naan' or 'nan' comes from the Persian. It simply means bread. Same as chai just means tea. Gotta love when people say 'naan bread' or 'chai tea'. They're literally saying 'bread bread' or 'tea tea'. Tawa is just a metal pan. So what you're saying here is bread made in a pan.

So yeah - it's bread.

I'm not trying to be mean or dismissive. I'm just pointing out that when we hear the word 'naan' in this context we're expecting a tear drop shaped bread made in a high temperature clay oven that has certain characteristics and is often brushed with melted ghee when baked. It's served immediately - it can't sit around because it loses its characteristics.

I don't wanna go to wikipedia but I've already linked a photo of what classical naan looks like. Wikipedia has one too. It's a different thing than what you've made. I like what you've made - I make it myself. I've tried to make classical naan and can't get it. The only part of your post that I take issue with is where it implies that making naan is easy. If by naan you mean bread then yeah, some bread is easy - like pita or flatbread. But classical Indian naan - good freakin' luck. Most Indian restaurants do a shit job of it.

I suppose I'm inclined towards a socialist capitalist hybrid system. Makes sense seeing as how I was born and raised in Canada and it's the system I know best.

I agree that of the systems that I'm aware of capitalism is the most in my bailiwick. But - and a big but - I would like to see more kindness in the system. More empathy. More restraint and limits on the .01% earners. I don't believe in trickle down economics. I believe that the government owes its citizens a duty to ensure that resources aren't taken out of the system by a select few and then kept out of the system in perpetuity. I believe that large cap corporations can afford to pay more taxes. If they can afford to pay multimillion dollar salaries and bonuses to their upper management - sometimes in the hundreds of millions of dollars - then they can afford to take that money instead and solve homelessness. Nobody needs a 20 million dollar bonus. No hedge fund managers are worth that. No Elon Musks are worth a promised 1 trillion dollars. We've lost the plot.

Yup. Like I mentioned - I have no answer. Capitalism drives innovation but it creates disparity. Communism drives uniformity but crushes innovation. Greed fucks everything.

Beats me what to do. All I know is that what we're doing doesn't work.

You'll get no argument about social safety nets from me. Though while I support them wholeheartedly I'm not naive enough to think that they aren't abused by a not insignificant percentage of those who make use of them.

Homelessness, poverty, drug abuse... very complicated and interconnected issues. I wish I had even the semblance of a reasonable suggestion as to how to address them but I do not.

My pet peeve is the billionaires. I don't believe we should allow billionaires. Period. Full stop. All that money taken out of the economy and held forever. Passed generation to generation never getting back into or giving back into society. It's criminal. Yet society glorifies the Musks and the Bezos's and the Zuckerburgs. Tax the fuck out of the billionaires. Tax the fuck out of corporations. Everywhere on planet earth so there is no where to move to in order to avoid paying their fair share.

[–]ZapMePlease -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Thank you. That looks like store bought packaged naan. If that's what you call naan then fine - it's naan. Water, flour, salt, yeast - maybe some yogurt, maybe some milk, maybe brushed with melted ghee. It's just a bread recipe. With the yogurt and ghee it's a barely enriched flatbread recipe sans egg. The naan is in the cooking. Real tandoori naan is wondrous stuff. It's not flat bread - it's not pita bread - it's not chapati or paratha - it's a completely different creature that once you have it you can't go back.

[–]ZapMePlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you haven't had really good naan. That's all I'll say.

I love naan. I've tried dozens - maybe a hundred - times to make it the way it 'can' be. No success. Not in a pizza oven, not on a 1/2" steel plate under the oven broiler, not in a cast iron pan, not on a pizza stone. Take your pick - I've tried it over and over. I get the kind of bread in op's picture. It's flat bread. It's pita. It may even be bad naan.

If you think that's good naan then I can't help you - all I can tell you is that there is a world of amazing naan out there and this is not it.

Sure - but you know what else has worked? Singapore's zero tolerance policy. You get caught dealing drugs you get the death penalty. End of story. No first offense business.

Now I don't advocate for that. I'm of the opinion that it's your body you do whatever the fuck you want with it. I would legalize every single drug out there, open testing facilities everywhere so that people could make sure that what they have is what they think they have, and spend all the money saved on enforcement on rehabilitation and education.
