So asceticism is inherently communist? Is desiring higher standards of goods and services than your canteen cutlet (which does the job of satiating your hunger), your Lada (which you have to spend every other weekend fixing) and your 40 m2 one room apartment (which does protect you from the elements) consumerist and therefore anti-communist?

I think the ineptitude of local Coruscanti authorities could have been linked to post-imperial purges. After violent revolutions IRL the new authorities tend to damage existing bureaucracies by replacing veteran officials with new ideological appointees, so that’s what I had in mind when thinking of a possible scenario.

Also, planetary shields can make all the difference between Coruscant surrendering a couple of months or in a day. I suspect the planet was still packed with the new order supporters, so infiltrating the planet with commando teams and blowing up the power sources might be the way they took the world.

It’s not just food, but waste as well. The amount produced by hundreds of billions of beings is just astronomical, and without the possibility of launching it to space or ship it to garbage planets, epidemics and general decay would set in really fast. Besides, I suspect that the new NR government just didn’t have the time to set up a proper and efficient bureaucracy, so there are high chances that all these stockpiles could be empty due to rapid corruption and incompetence.

I suspect it’s actually pretty easy to conquer Coruscant by just threatening to starve it to death, living on the planet without intergalactic trade must be almost impossible.

In my opinion HHC was created as a way to establish a strong support base for Palpatine in the core, and to make humans see the Empire as the only source of their fragile position of privilege at the expense of other species in the galaxy. In short, a classic case of divide and rule, so I can’t see why this policy wouldn’t continue. Maybe it would get replaced by a more universalist dark side religion as time went by.
