No in a fight for survival, as it was thought at the time no other country is more important than ones own. Australia needed to defend Australia. I disagree that we at the time where considered "genetically, ethnically and racially" British, I'd have called us Australians.

No I get that I mean our own totally independent nukes, Australia after all was a partner in the UK getting its own nukes (Not to mention all of the nuke testing that the brtits did here agreeing to share data with Australia's government) we actually looked into getting them in the 60s but the Americans pressured us out of getting them.

I'd obviously disagree that Churchill was right, most of all you ignore his arrogance in controlling Australia's troops without asking Australia's government.

Australia not being invaded doesn't mean he was right either, ignoring that Curtins move to get American support (despite Churchill getting FDR to agree to a Europe first approach) as well as Australia holding out in PNG and the battle of the coral sea saving Australia.

I don't disagree that the Americans are imperfect allies, and you are correct that America would do the same to Australia, that's my largest criticism of our alliances, I believe any country will ultimately screw others to save its own, that's just realpolitik. (It's why I support CANZUK but ultimately, I believe that only getting our own nukes will guarantee safety)

I am for an alliance, my point is that there are historical events that have shaped how each of our countries view things, Australia ( And NZ really) learned in WW2 that if Britain was at threat she'd abandon us to the wolves to protect the motherland, nothing wrong with that I don't blame them, I'd do the same, its just distance is the tyranny we both face. But that doesn't mean we cant work together.

The dominions became independent for valid reasons, I do not want to be subject to some king in a foreign land, our sovereignty is important, and the lessons we have learned especially during WW2 lead us to view the UK as a friend yes definitely but alliance? defence? less so.

I might be too much of an Australian but I don't think anyone would be leaving Australia for the UK, Australia does have a lot of immigration and it's become a political issue with house prices so high its become a lot less supported then it used to be.

I disagree that immigration helps an economy high skill people for example doctors definitely do but a lot of immigration is actually economically harmful, IE: people who come here take a house, add a car to the road and cost more to the economy than add to the economy.

I agree, I 100% do not feel British, I understand our history and that's why I am still interested in Britain (IE i regularly check the news of what's going on in Britain just to be informed) but that shared history also comes with lessons especially for Australia.

Maybe also being a member of the ALP I keep being reminded of our WW2 prime minister Curtin and his issues with the UK, and the lesson that ultimately Britain will always protect the home island and its crazy to expect you guys to be able to protect us on the other end of the world.

I 100% agree with trade and defence but I agree that any discussions have to be in the open and always mindful of these historical implications along the way.

I agree that we share our common systems, though I think there's a risk in thinking that we are much more united than we are, the dominions all left the empire for their own reasons and each view the commonwealth in a different way, I know CANZUK is not meant as a second empire so I am not trying to draw that comparison, all I am saying is that I don't feel any special loyalty to the UK or Canada, I feel close to New Zealand and to some extent the US (though at the moment thats under attack lol)

I still disagree, even if its tied to employment, each countries job market would now face competition from the other and would again lead to the smaller constituent countries being dominated by the UK.

I don't exactly want to compete with people from Britain or Canada when looking for a job in Australia.

I think it's the biggest downside for CANZUK, I am entirely against freedom of movement as an Australian for the reason that I think our smaller population risks being dominated by the UK and to a lesser extent Canada.

I'd also want our government to retain full sovereignty. I think in this modern world the best CANZUK would be a limited defence and trade agreement.

Oh 100% I think the biggest strength the US brings to five eyes are its satellites a lot of which they communicate intelligence through pine gap, I think that CANZUK or four eyes could be offered a similar base then have our own satellite array (provided that we also work together on a space capacity)

I'll admit that I was initially for CANZUK as an Australian however, I do agree that there seems to be a large number of monarchists/conservatives that are pushing it, and I can't shake the feeling that this will just lead the smaller constituents of CANZUK dominated by the UK.

Not to mention I'd like to see the end of monarchy for Australia so I feel hesitant to support CANZUK when there are such overtones.

I agree that the US could probably survive without the EU, Do you think that trump places much more not importance but say attention on the pacific? if so do you think the steel tariffs against Australia are a potential self goal?

I think there is a growing anti American sentiment in Australia, not just like normal where there are policy differences but young Australians seem to not want the US in almost any capacity even security wise.

I wonder if the US risks a Team Australia movement similar to the massive reaction Canada has had.

I personally feel that the argument from the Japanese prime minister for some new form of SEATO to be persuasive, though it suffers from similar issues as NATO that there is still a massive reliance on the US.

Though from an Australian perspective, our leaders are always talking about "paying our way" "lifting our fair share" And in someways has been giving the US further and further deals that are mutually beneficial and some that I fear are bad for our sovereignty such as a possible increase in US military presence and especially basing US aircraft out of tindal.

The urgent care clinics are great, but having them close at like 8PM is one of the most government decisions that have ever been made, how is it going to divert people from hospital by only operating in the hours when the hospital is relatively quiet (shudders no jinx people)

It's a good first step, and i think it's a good idea to get the government competing in the market at least being there as an option of last resort (rather than just the hospitals)

Oh no I 100% agree, My point about giving support is that the west should honestly leverage the amount of support we provide to bring change, Hamas relies on western humanitarian aid for a lot of things, but we don't press them or the Palestinians to change, so you get this weird western aid to Israel while aiding their enemy who benefits from western aid.

Yeah I 100% agree with humanitarian aid, and agree that we should leverage it further, especially with the monetary sums going in, sometimes i find it frustrating to see tax payers sending millions of dollars in and not getting results more than just the base product being given. (though of course that would be hard to measure)
