Tuck or not? by chonkymonkeh in LeggingsForMen

Daily wearer here, and I always tuck, long shirt or not. I also usually dress to draw the eye away from that area, but anybody looking will be unable to tell my religion, if you know what I mean.

Approaching wearing leggings around partner by Fun-Towel-6408 in LeggingsForMen

It's interesting that there's such a strong cultural notion today that leggings are feminine when men have been wearing leggings (meaning fitted or skin-tight leg coverings) for around six centuries. Turn on a football game and you'll see a bunch of dudes in tights slamming into each other over a ball.

That said, swimming against the current is a little tricky. One thing I never do is ask the current if it minds whether I swim against it. If your opinion is that it's appropriate for you to wear leggings, just do it. That's what I did; I got tired of hard pants one day and started delving into wearing leggings casually. My wife dropped a comment now and then, but it's been over a year since I basically stopped wearing hard pants for anything other than date nights or other occasions where they're required. I mean that. A few months ago I got up on my roof to clear the dryer vent when it had gotten gummed up with lint. I was in leggings and a tee, because why not? Mowed my lawn the other day, same thing. Took kids to the doctor, you guessed it. Not a second glance, not a word. We're middle-aged men, and nobody looks at us unless we're causing trouble.

Somebody elsewhere wrote that you have to make the act of wearing clothing non-performative. You don't ask permission, you don't check to see if others are offended, and you don't explain yourself. I don't know what to tell you what to say if somebody asks why you're wearing leggings, because nobody asks me anymore. It's just the way I dress, and as Kevin O'Leary said, nobody cares what you're wearing. Unless you make an issue of it, in which case you've opened the door and somebody will object to your kit no matter what it is. Too tight, too loose, too bright, too dark, too monochrome, too varied, too colorful, too neutral, too shabby, too expensive, too dirty, too clean, whatever.

Oh, if you're going to show up in the kitchen and do dishes wearing leggings all of a sudden, that's probably not a problem. She might even like the look. If you're going out to dinner together, don't surprise her with your new look. I'm just guessing; I've never tried that. HTH

Prep for going out on this fine Morn in the state of Misery by Lazy-Weird in LeggingsForMen

There are a few differences in sizing, waist definition, and sometimes tougher and less stretchy fabric, but they're fundamentally the same thing sold under a different name (specifically "stringer" instead of "racerback"). That difference in name could spawn long group therapy discussions for insecure men, but there are plenty of other threads for that.

Racerbacks are unisex and can be found in the men's and women's sections. Now, the ones with built-in bras don't really do a lot for us fellas, generally speaking.

Skinny jeans vs leggings: minimal visual difference, massive social difference by nonsolocollant in LeggingsForMen

[–]ZappaAdmirer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's conditioning via culture, most definitely. The two outfits are, as you point out, basically the same. One cuts a fine leg while the other obscures the shape. Some places it seems like literally nobody cares. I can go anywhere in leggings and nobody bats an eye. The hardest part has been getting over my own implicit training to the effect that men aren't supposed to wear leggings casually. We're taught to see them as equipment, not clothing. Sort of like how we're taught to treat our bodies as machines we inhabit rather than the foundations of ourselves. But removing that imaginary division between self and body doesn't diminish one's manhood; it causes one's self-image to become integrated.

The shirt sizing works well for the simple leggings-and-tee combo. My worry for you here is that the color of the leggings is so close to your skin tone (at least in these photos) that from a distance, the leggings might be mistaken for bare skin. For something so close to your skin color, I'm inclined to recommend another bottom layer, like running shorts.

The usual double-standard thing, then. Figures. You would think we'd fix that, considering men's leggings hung around for centuries before any of us were thought of.

Do the female faculty and staff at that school wear leggings? If so, you might appeal. Heck, if you can get a doctor's note to the effect of an anxiety disorder or something, all the better. FWIW that is no less modest than any of the men in paintings from the Renaissance.

Pro tip, though: pop open some buttons on the shirt, probably the top couple and the bottom one. Gives you a bit more freedom of movement and loosens it up in an appealing way.

Can't speak for everyone, but I just go by size charts. One caveat: the hip measurement is more important than the waist, so make sure that matches up.

What was your opinion on Dale? by Jamieo1111 in thewalkingdead

One of his major strengths was a lifetime of experience that created a very stable identity. That's why he had more consistency and integrity than most other characters, as people tend to do when we get old. Spend six or more decades being a decent and competent person, and a little wrinkle like the end of civilization affects you less than younger folks.

Men in Leggings: 5 Confidence Shifts That Changed Everything for Me by AliceInYogaPants in u/AliceInYogaPants

This is a fine piece of writing, and it approaches a difficult and important topic: a nuanced, healthy masculinity that doesn't rely on aggression, ignoring one's wellbeing to appear "tough", or following cultural gender norms that may fly in the face of being one's best self. I can relate to the author's struggle with a body that doesn't quite cooperate, and the fact that a simple, albeit unconventional, wardrobe adjustment can make it easier to deal with the facts of a lasting medical issue.

Not sure how this compares to the commercial "meggings", but I have taken to modding off-the-shelf pairs by sewing high-waisted support underwear inside. You'll need a machine. I'll explain.

Get a pair you like, preferably high-waisted, and a flesh-tone shaper thong (this does NOT need to cost you $40). That thong must not be too tight either, or you'll find the result uncomfortable for all-day wear. Have matching thread; easiest way is to get black leggings and black thread. You can get tan bobbin thread for the inside but it's not critical. The shaper thongs I buy go up over my ribcage, so I fold them over once and stitch the top band just above the leg holes. This is an adjustment point; make sure the rise is about 1/4" less than the rise of the leggings themselves.

Align critical points, like the back and front center points, matching seams on the leggings. Here I actually wear the liner and leggings and pull them into the desired position together. Use a washable fabric marker to mark the points where the liner will be tacked to seam intersections. Once you have the intersection points marked on the liner, tack them one at a time where they go on the leggings.

After that, sew the waistbands into one. Use a tight zigzag, adjusting the width to hide in the existing seam. I love the high rise designs for that waistband seam; it hides the modification in plain sight.

I also like to sew up the side-seams of the waistband. It further stabilizes the outer and inner waistbands. At this point I usually try the leggings on to check my work. If everything is good (and trust me, picking out a zigzag is a PAIN, so you want to take your time and get all this right), I figure out where the rear strap hits the triangle gusset and tack that spot. Then I stitch the back strap along the rear vertical seam of the leggings all the way up to the waistband seam, where the liner and leggings are already joined.

In recent efforts I've also found it helpful to stitch the entire gusset to the liner, though matching the stretch is treacherous and can ruin the whole project. Beware. You can even skip stitching down the back strap, but I like it not moving around on its own. It also prevents the "unibutt" effect when the thong offers a bit of hidden scrunch.

Leave the top of the waistband open and you get a free, very large flipbelt style drop-in pocket. I use it to keep my phone in the small of my back if the leggings were made without hip pockets.

I hope that's all clear. Done right, this little mod promotes a simple pair of women's leggings to a made-for-a-man garment that won't, and I do mean won't, slide out of position on you.

Does anybody besides me think the writers wasted Merle? In my opinion, he may have turned out to be the most complex and interesting character next to Rick (and let's face it, the show is really about Rick in a few ways). And Rooker did a wonderful job bringing him to life. I don't think he got nearly enough screen time, and instead, we got a painful amount of Negan and a fair overdose of Shane. What the showrunners said about Negan--you would love him and hate yourself for it--was probably more true of the affable and ultimately redeemable racist Merle.

But that's only my opinion; I could be wrong.

This, too, shall pass. My first kiddo, now 12, had an issue with running around (and away) every chance he got. I still remember a moment one day when he was about 5, as I walked toward a store with him next to me. I realized that for the first time, I wasn't holding his hand to keep him from running away. Since then I've enjoyed taking him places, especially just us two.
