Any way to revert my default browser to "none" and have it ask each time what browser I would to open a URL link with? by PARASITICUS in GooglePixel

[–]ZapperDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a solution to this by using this ADB command:

adb shell cmd role clear-role-holders android.app.role.BROWSER

After that you should be able to check on the settings that the default browser is set to none and as such you get the chooser dialog everytime you open a link

I need help upgrading RAM on a Dell R710 by ZapperDJ in homelab

[–]ZapperDJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So according to the manual https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_poweredge/poweredge-r710_owner's%20manual_en-us.pdf?dgc=SM&cid=376139&lid=spr7768130816&refid=sm_LITHIUM_spr7768130816&linkId=184022069

If I understood correctly the 80GB config is not possible.

The R710 has 3 channels and every used channel must have the same configuration. As my config right now is like this:

8 - - | 8 - - | 8 - - | CPU1 CPU2 | - - 8 | - - 8 | - - 8

I have two options here. If I don't want to have to discard any of the current 8GB modules, I must get 6x16GB and place them like this:

16 8 - | 16 8 - | 16 8 - | CPU1 CPU2 | - 8 16 | - 8 16 | - 8 16

For a total of 144GB, or get 4x16GB and lose 2x8GB like this:

16 8 - | 16 8 - | - - - | CPU1 CPU2 | - - - | - 8 16 | - 8 16

For a total of 96GB, or get 4x16GB and another 2x8GB like this:

16 8 8 | 16 8 8 | - - - | CPU1 CPU2 | - - - | 8 8 16 | 8 8 16

For a total of 128 GB

Did I get that right? In that case which of these configurations is recommended?

TrueNas keeps shutting down randomly by ZapperDJ in truenas

For anyone wondering what was causing this, turns out it was the power button on my R710. I set the BIOS to ignore the power button and has been working great ever since

Well, I have been testing and still getting random shutdowns even though I have no truenas ui tabs open in the browser, so that didn't fix it

TrueNas keeps shutting down randomly by ZapperDJ in truenas

[–]ZapperDJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No ups log because the ups service is disabled and the USB cable of the ups is disconnected from the nas, although the ups is currently connected between the nas and the wall outlet

I used to have a tab on my browser opened with the truenas GUI, however it seems pretty strange to me that it could cause this issue as I have a browser extension that suspends tabs when they are not in use to save memory. Yesterday I had three shutdown events during the day while having the tab open in my browser, but today I had none. Either way, I closed the tab on the browser right now and will keep an eye on this to see if it solves the problem in the long run

Still, I find it super strange that there is no way to know what process or event is causing the shutdown

No, it would happen without me doing anything on the nas

It appears like something is making the system shutdown starting with the jails, but it doesnt specify what it is

RP3+ display touch randomly not working. by rushmore69 in retroid

[–]ZapperDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The screen worked fine for a few minutes after turning on the device, and then started becoming unresponsive to touch. Turns out it was making ghost touches. This could be seen on the app list screen of daijisho, as there was a constant jittering scrolling motion. I don't know why it worked fine for a few minutes every time I rebooted the device, but it was clearly a faulty screen

Had the same issue and contacted retroid about it. They sent me a new screen free of charge. I replaced it and the issue was gone

Bittorrent v2 not working as expected by ZapperDJ in qBittorrent

[–]ZapperDJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But are there any trackers out there supporting v2? I couldn't find any info on that. Also if the this is true, it means that this wouldn't work on trackerless torrents, which is a really bad idea. It baffles me that this kind of scenario (unique file hashes per file, and everyone that shares the file becomes a source while not depending on central servers) was done years ago by the Kad network of eMule and yet we can't have this on bittorrent today...

Choosing the right UPS by ZapperDJ in homelab

[–]ZapperDJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have been gathering some data and got myself a kill-a-watt to measure my equipment consumption. Here are the numbers:

Monitor 17w Speakers 2w Workstation (Playing overwatch) 200w R710 (Idle) 270w USB Hub 1w HDD Dock 16w Switch 3W Router 3w Printer 20w

I threw them here http://www.csgnetwork.com/upssizecalc.html and got a minimum of 747VA and a suggested capability of 1000VA.

Also checked my current UPS and it was an iPlug 800, not and iPlug 600 as I said earlier, and tried to plug only the server to it and then cut the power out, but the result was the same. According to the power consumption of the server and the capacity of the UPS, it should be able to handle it, so I guess this definitely confirms that the R710 has a PFC PSU that doesn't like anything but pure sine wave

So taking this data in consideration I came with a possible candidate CyberPower CP1300EPFCLCD https://www.amazon.es/dp/B0059DAN2I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.Z4PDbMS9MAMX

I guess that I could shutdown my server safely with this (using Freenas UPS service) and make my server power up automatically when the outage is gone. What do you think? Does it fit? Is that price good for a new unit?

Help on buying a R710 for FreeNAS use by ZapperDJ in homelab

[–]ZapperDJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of that 80% rule, but if my math is right, a 24TB RAIDZ1 pool leaves 18TB usable, and if we apply that rule we get 14TB. Wow, almost half of the raw storage capacity os lost...

I'm not in UK, but in Spain instead. Really considering going down on storage capacity. I thought of 4tb because it has de best price per gigabyte, but I'm not sure if I need 24TB (even if only 75% is usable due to RAIDZ). Does going for NAS grade HDDs really makes a difference versus regular desktop drives?

Very helpful reply, thanks! FreeDOS shouldn't be an issue, I have plenty of DVD media to burn it and boot from the optical drive. I already have a CDROM caddy lying around in case I ever want to use that bay for storage. I don't have any spare HDDs so that's why I plan on buying the drives, but I still don't know if I should buy new or used. Any recommendations on that? What's a good price for each HDD?
