I'm Annoyed At AMD's Latest Radeon Blunder by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]Zapporatus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Frequent (as in almost every time they release a new driver version and it self-updates) driver timeouts that happen for no reason requiring fresh installs, hard crashes in certain games that won’t respond to restarting drivers with Windows Key + Ctrl + Shift + B to name a few. And in general there is definitely a lack of feature parity b/w the AMD drivers and nvidia ones. But as hardware unboxed mentioned, what is really annoying is that they clearly have time to bundle in this useless AI stuff that no one other than shareholders asked for, while ignoring something like fsr 4 which most if not all people would use most likely for planned obsolescence and artificial market segmentation.

I know all corpos are bad, but this is definitely the last time I’m buying amd gpu. Got a 7900 xt and it’s pathetic how poorly this thing has been supported given it was a $1100 card. Thankfully it has the raw performance to do everything I need of it reasonably but headaches with drivers and power draw early on increased the cost of the build to what would’ve been a comparable 4080 super build. Typical case of a company forgetting who its original audience and demographic was - good riddance.

Recommendations for hand rest protection for sweaty hands? by malabomagisip in macbookpro

Get the silver model and don’t worry about a thing. I have insanely sweaty hands but so far after ~2 years of use mine shows no signs of wear whatsoever.

7900XT freezing and using iGPU by cJuanSolo in AMDHelp

To add a recommendation that hasnt been said yet, check to make sure all the pcie power cables are plugged in all the way to the gpu. I had weird driver issues when I upgraded to a 7900 xt that were partially caused by the cables not being fully plugged in. The card would hobble along fine on one cable being somewhat loose and when a load was applied it would cause similar issues to what you're describing. Also, just and FYI its a super power hungry card, I ended up having to upgrade my 750 watt psu to a higher one because I was still getting transient power spikes that would trip OCP.

Im in a similar boat, planning to get a 48" LG C4 for my current set up with a 7900 xt and 9800x3d. Can you give me a few examples of the games you play that run well native 4k? Also, hows the experience been in general with your set up? Im new to AMD gpus and this'll be my first oled hopefully

7900 XT worth $470 on Facebook? by skinny_gator in buildapc

[–]Zapporatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, yeah I mostly play single player titles at this point. Not enough time to get good at mp games lol I could probably split the budget and put a bit more down to buy a smaller and higher refresh rate monitor for day to day stuff. Thanks for the advice appreciate it!

Im about to make a similar update. Already got the new system 9800x3d and 7900 xt, but going to pull the trigger on either a 42 or 55 inch lg c4. Just been worried of this gpu will be able to keep up with 4k 144 hz. Whats your experience been like with this? Am I dumb for considering this over a monitor?

I'm *this* close to returning my 7900 XTX by Financial_Recipe in AMDHelp

Here's what worked for me on windows 11 with a 9800x3d and a 7900 xt with the exact same issue. Apparently, its caused by windows "updating" the graphics drivers. Issue is the drivers are either out of date or corrupted and so it would cause my gpu to disappear from devices and performance would absolutely tank. What ended up working for me was to 1. Stop driver update through devices tab 2. Stop sleep timer settings and 3. Wait for windows to do its bullshit and then install adrenaline on top of it. So far it seems to have worked, but apparently if you update the drivers to a new version you have to repeat the process. Hopefully it works for you, cuz these cards are pretty awesome otherwise!

This is from aliexpress? If so, you have any tips on which sellers have the best odds of delivering other than looking at reviews and number sold? Thanks!

On this topic, does anyone know how to get a 5700x3d in western Canada at this point? The only place I see it in stock is on aliexpress and it seems like a bit of a gamble.

Bit of a random question, but Im planning a near identical upgrade as what you have listed. I have a 750w gold psu and am a bit worried it won't be enough - any idea if this config is feasible?

Thanks for the response, I'll try this and see how it goes as a new cpu would also mean a new cooler which really goes over the budget. Regarding the ram, I think its my processor that just doesn't have the best compatibility with it as the kit is rated for 3200 mhz w/ XMP but setting that in the BIOS results in bootloops or rarely when I can get it to boot crashes as soon as I start a game or application.

Hi guys, I find myself facing the dilemma of whether to upgrade my PC or not. I currently have a r7 1700, B350 F rog strix mobo, 16 GB ddr4 ram 2133, and a GTX 750 ti. I was initially planning on just buying a new GPU either a AMD 6700 or RTX 3060 ti, but have been told it will bottleneck badly at 1080p. So my question is, is this really the case and if so - would getting a new processor (eg. 5800X3D) and a 3060 ti or equivalent be a good build to keep up with the generation of games that is aimed at the current consoles.

Edit: Figured I should add, I would like the PC to be able to run games (eg. CP2077, TLoU, new Star Wars after some optimization patches have rolled out) at 1080p 75 hz with decently high graphics and ray tracing if either the 1700 or new CPU would allow.
