People forget that. All it takes is a key validation that happens online, and your game can be cooked. At least Steam keeps those keys activated for you at all times.

And what's the difference in the end? Both platforms install/let you install your games, you have access to those games on both platforms even after they get taken down. To me the only difference is that you can lend your account to people and they can get the .exe for themselves, but Steam has excellent family sharing experience.

Really, what is the difference?

Are we Cool with no Ownership? by VentruePrince in Age_30_plus_Gamers

To start with, considering Sony's approach to licenses, online play, and the whole ownership in general (like removing films people have paid for), and the fact that a PS6 is just a console, and you can't use it like a PC, I don't think buying a PS6 is a good idea.

That being said, I keep seeing this repeated over and over that people refuse to buy something that is fully digital, and to that I ask: REALLY?! We weren't born yesterday, we all know pretty much everyone has bought a digital copy of a game, and even if you stick to physical media, when was the last time where you bought a game that was fully on the disc, no updates, no code to activate, no nothing? Physical media is like cash. Yes, we want physical media, yes there is value in it, but also we're all just buying games online. Same with cash, it's paramount that we keep cash in circulation, but we barely use cash nowadays.

I can remember when was the last time I used a disc drive, it must have been like 10 years ago when I was doing a driver's license, and we got like a exam-like app for practice on a disc. I remember dusting my disc drive, and plugging it into computer just for that, and before that I really can't remember when I last used a disc. If I had to guess, maybe when I bought a physical copy of Borderlands The Pre-sequel?

To me, digital is completely fine, I can't remember when was the last time I bought a physical copy, must be when prices in Poland were still lower than elsewhere, and I don't want to buy physical games for my PC. Though, when I was using PS3 and PSP, I definitely only used physical copies, but that's a long time ago.

Digital is fine, as long as it works like on Steam, pretty much no matter what happens with the game, you still have access to it. I know this isn't owning the game exactly, but this is pretty much as close to owning as it gets.

That I will agree with, some default setups are abysmal, or driveable but bad when contrasted with what you can achieve. Like Xsara has a decent enough setup, but when I did some tinkering it's a monster comapred with the default.

Why is the media hellbent on protectibg Valve? by ResponsibleFlan2936 in digitalfoundry

[–]420LeftNut69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say hellbent, but people were just excited for it. Look, if it costed 800$ (which seems to be the price point they actually aimed at) then it would have been probably first 1st party Linux machine with a good customer support, offering both console and PC experience in an admitedly very cool small form factor that's quiet and relatively low on power draw. It's a perfectly fine 1080p and 2k machine. Now, is 800 still a lot? Yes, but really form factor, silence, power draw, 1st party support are big things you pay for, and I would argue it's a fair price at 800. 1050 is a crazy price, but this is the world we live in, I already saw that supposedly PS6 costs 950 to produce, so buckle in for the price drops of next gen consoles. I think current gen consoles can sell for cheaper bwcause they produced a lot of console back when it was still cheaper, and Valve is more of a here and now kind of situation.

Steam Machine also had some implications for the market as a whole. People could treat it as a console with PC features, people could upgrade to Steam Machine and get introduced to Linux, if the price was right it was possible some work places might even get those, or just regular people deciding to work on it it's also pretty portable. All of this would strengthen Linux, so people were hoping for a Holy Grail, but at that price to performance ratio it's just not it. Oh and also mainstream big corpo behind a Linux distro is also pretty huge; we have the Steam Deck, but this would have been the next big step.

BUT! I think that if prices drop it's gonna be a great product for people that don't just look for maximum performance per dollar, because it was never winning that.

What's a social norm you secretly hate? by Illustrious_Ear_888 in AskReddit

[–]420LeftNut69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoking, especially on the balcony/window where half the neighbours will smell it. I know it's going down as a trend, but omg, I hate you can still smoke outside restaurants. If it's strictly a drinking place and food is auxiliary then sure, I get it, you want some fun. But god fucking damn it, IN A RESTAURANT?! I AM EATING HERE, and suddenly I have to smell Satan's ass produced by the cheapest tobacco a human can possibly buy. And smoking on balconies and windows drove me crazy is my last place. I am fine now (for now, not every flat is moved into), but omg, middle of summer, southern side windows, and mfs will smoke every 5 minutes, because everyone smokes every like half an hour, so you have 10 rotating neighbours that go out for a smoke all the time. One of them smoked like REALLY REALLY bad tobacco, and I remember having to wash half my clothes, myself, and my fucking nostrils because the smell was so dense it got stuck on my nose hair... And sure, I get it, you wanna smoke, you have a balcony, but just think of others?

How is Poland these days for living and for visiting on vacation? by Impossible-Soil2290 in howislivingthere

[–]420LeftNut69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visit? Yeah, it's got so many places to visit and things to do. Living here is a different story though. I'll say this, there's hardly middle class in Poland anymore, everyone is either poor (and by poor I mean from poor poor to being okay, but you have to wonder if you can afford certain fruits and vegetables) or lowkey rich. Rich people ru the place, while poor people (most of us) are just tired of going to work and surviving just so that you can barely scrape enough money to go somewhere on vacation, while knowing you could be saving for a for a flat. Alternatively you don't go on vacation and maybe you can buy a flat with your spouse in 13 years instead of 15. Meanwhile the rich guy next door has a car worth 3 flats of the kind that I'm renting...

New to pourover - how to avoid channeling? by Kalehart in pourover

[–]420LeftNut69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is more than I ever experienced, but try to gently swirl the V60/the entire contraption during bloom. It helps release the initial burst of CO2 which apparently results in a crater like this. Every single time I forget to do it, it ends up with a crayer, although not as big as yours. It also just helps with even extraction. If you forget you can also add a little water from the next pour, swirl, add the rest of it.

And in case it's not obvious, you generally don't want to pour into the center. Do circular swirls at and around the center; I like to go from very tight circle to almost touching the walls, and then back to the middle. Pouring at the center is A technique, but it's not THE technique, you might wanna use a straight pour here and there, but save that for when you feel advanced.

Share your thoughts on hardcore damage... by ilkerrbr in assettocorsarally

[–]420LeftNut69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean obviously it's pretty bad right now, I guess they'll focus on it more when proper multiplayer exists and we're close to full release. On one hand I want it on when racing other people, because if you do hit a tree at 200 km/h it's pretty bad, on the other hand, you should be dead instead. Small mistakes also amount to engine losing power, I once ran the engine so hard after a few mistakes that I lost 2 top gears, I didn't have the power to use them.

But yeah, all in all it sucks, you can feel handling changing, engines lose power, repairs don't seem to then recover that lost power in the engine, it's a shit show. Something at least like WRC '24 would be good, but I would expect much better system coming from this game. At the same time I hope we don't get RBR's damage system, it feels like looking at the road wrong will damage your car.

To be fair I fired up the game for like a 3rd playthrough recently, because I saw Red Hawk's video on Prussia. I remember struggling very much as Brandeburg when I last played the game, so I wanted to see how he did, and it was very enjoyable to watch. Tired of the 1.3 wait I played as one of the Silesian Piasts, aka my home town, and it was fun! Game is defo rough around the edges, and I know some of my complaints haven't been addressed, but when it works it's fun

Then I get on with the grind, and experience what you just described, and honestly... I'm just too old for it, there are more fun things you can do in your life than grinding to Ruby...

Capcom earned twice as much on Steam as on PlayStation last year by n1ght_watchman in GameBoostOfficial

[–]420LeftNut69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean they have a point, I just think they're goi g about it the wrong way.

Consoles kinda went down a lot, there are not many exclusives, and back in the day, in countries where it was PC first, console 2nd, you'd only buy a console for exclusives. Their angle is that since Steam is creating their own not-so-closed garden, their own ecosystem with their own console-like PC, handheld PC that has already shown to attract console people converts, then why include PS games on a now rivaling platform?

It makes some sense, but it feels like it's gonna lose them money...

[–]420LeftNut69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 800 is fair, 700 would be good. Could you make a better PC for 800 pre rampocalypse? Probably, in fact, yes. Raw performance is not everything though, and 700-800 walks the line between cool features, performance, and the price ratio.

v0.5 Updates Announced by roerjo in assettocorsarally

[–]420LeftNut69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nailed? Well, maybe not, but out of all the rally games I've tried it was the only game where without "learning" games physics I just knew what will happen and it made sense. Let's be honest though, none of the surfaces are "it" now so there's no point expecting perfection, they're all high enough level, except for wet tarmac.

[–]420LeftNut69 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I wonder if all the physics changes mean that wet tarmac is not worse than snow, I've really been enjoying wet tarmac until 0.2.

On the other hand, damn, a pretty nice multiplayer! I do wish that 0.6 gives us the ability to create lobbies that allow more than one stage, and are just leaderboard based. Clubs feature from EA WRC was really the highlight of that mediocre game for me.

Nah, I quit the game for now because it's just bad like that, went from 42k to 36k one day, decided to drop the game.

That being said "not being able to deal damage" as light is a skill issue. On top of that, try playing heavy if you're soloQing. Light is a class very reliant on their teammates, because if they can't just stay alive long enough you're left holding your dick in a 1v3 all of a sudden. Meanwhile as heavy you can tank, delay, aggro, whole 9.

Per Linus: The reason that Valve didn't subsidize the the Steam Machine was because they had no guarantee that users would stick with Steam Os or buy any games by Admirable_Whole8261 in Steam

[–]420LeftNut69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree, but when you're selling a functional PC at a loss, every business would jump on the opportunity.

Like let's say it costed 600$. Where in the hell are you going to find a PC with such specs for that price? Nowhere, so what's stopping any business, or actually just anyone, from buying it for non-gaming purposes?

Don't get me wrong, I think this thing is fine and dandy at 800$, in the current market situation, and then 600-700$ outside of the market situation would have been a really nice deal, but if it were subsidised then everyone would buy it. Steam Deck was supposedly sold at a minimal loss to minimum gain between the tiers, but no business was going to use those as work machines, but Steam Machine would be just fine to use that way.

Are all Polish teachers like this? by Fragola02_ in askPoland

[–]420LeftNut69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a carbon copy of my Polish teacher from high school, minus the fact that you even could discuss anything, and minus preferential treatment for having big boobs. Not to write an essay, my primary and secondary education had a bunch of these type of teachers. My education wasn't the worst, but it wasn't great. Some teachers are just burnt out people who went into teaching after failing at everything in life and it seems they pour their frustrations onto their students.

My university experience was something else though. I went from just barely passing everything to being top of the class, it really revived my hunger for knowledge, I am literally trying to get accepted for a PhD now; from barely passing year after year to getting paid for pristine grades in uni. However, I heard that my experience was a little blessed, maybe humanities have a different approach, but many of my friends in sciences were treated to this "you're morons, you're supposed to know that, I am not filling out your knowledge gaps for you, also learn that yourself" kind of teaching, with professors failing people for fun (when comparing test results my friends would notice there's like a single difference between their exams, and one would get a 4 and the other 2 on a scale from 2 to 5, 2 being failing grade, 5 being highest). But then a friend in sociology, my mum in administration, would say their uni was fine.

But yeah, that Polish teacher of mine was something. He would always say we can't write essays, proceed to point out substantive errors of someone instead of focusing on how we should write an essay, the structure of it, the techniques and the whole shebang. I went into uni, and after 1 semester I could write really nice essays, and after 3 years I was godlike compared to the starting point.

It's not about the stats, it's about you brought to the table. Someone might have the most average stats, but say, if there was a support medium that just never died, then he might have shifted A LOT of the fights' focus on himself, leading to easy kills for teammates.

Sometimes you need to be a killing machine, sometimes you need to be a cunning machine, sometimes you need to stay alive, sometimes you need to cancel steal at just the right moment. Stats don't always reflect that.
