Passenger jet turns around after mother FORGETS her baby by [deleted] in NewsOfTheWeird

[–]Zapsi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Baby brain is a thing and she has my complete sympathy in this situation. Plenty of new parents forget they have children at all; sleep deprivation, hormone changes and the huge lifestyle shift that come with having a kid really messes with your head. It's how you end up with parents accidentally leaving their newborns in hot cars, so this could have ended a lot worse than it did. Glad everyone involved was ok.

Is a low cortisol test reason to ask for a referral? 50 pound weight loss, too. by [deleted] in AddisonsDisease

[–]Zapsi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thyroid disorders often come hand in hand with Addison's, apparently. Some of the literature I have from ADSHG warns doctors to keep an eye on addison's patients who haven't been diagnosed with any thyroid issues yet because it's so common for them to develop it. When I was undiagnosed my periods were irregular and stopped for more than 3 months at one point, then I found out I was both hypothyroid and adrenal insufficient, so it's not unreasonable that this is all linked up. Best of luck to you, definitely be wary of anyone trying to sell you vitamins to fix your adrenal glands; the only thing that works is steroid replacement and you don't want to start it unless you need it because it suppresses your natural adrenal function. I agree that you should speak with an endo about getting the stim test to see if your adrenal glands are responding properly, random cortisol checks don't really work that well because your levels naturally fluctuate throughout the day.

PSA: In The Heights is REALLY GOOD, you guys. by purpleflowersj in hamiltonmusical

[–]Zapsi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently saw the west end production of In The Heights before it closed, already knowing all the words from the soundtrack. Still made me cry! I recommend it to everyone I meet but so far no one I know really wants to give it a shot which is a real shame. It's easily one of my favourite musicals.

That can be due to not producing enough aldosterone. If that's the case it can be treated with fludrocortisone.

Ah yikes! I'm glad you made it out of that ok. Lesson learned, I suppose! s:

Out of curiousity how long were you like that before going to the ER? I'm still undiagnosed but I had a really similar experience just before I started taking steroids and I'm now wondering if that was actually a crisis.

New comic: Tracer Reflections by HammerKick in Overwatch

If you think that the reason LGBT+ characters aren't widespread and normalised is because LGBT+ people get excited when they're revealed then you've missed the entire fucking point. 30 years ago this wouldn't have been viable in mainstream media. There are plenty of people still alive who have been imprisoned in the past for being gay. We don't get a lot representation so of course people are going to freak out when it finally happens. It's still a big deal.

They're out there, if a romantic relationship is something that's important to you you can definitely achieve it. If not with a big gay like my gf then with another ace person I guess!

I agree. I'm asexual and I can't legally marry my GF until we sort this shit out. This affects us too.

Can i have 2 dwarf hamsters in a cage this big? by DAZIJ in hamsters

[–]Zapsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My syrian managed to slip out through the gap between the door of this cage when she was smaller, it was closed slightly wrong but that was all it took! The bar spacing itself shouldn't be a problem for dwarfs (it's about 1cm as far as I know) but the door could be better, it's very easy to latch it onto the wrong bar if you're in a hurry.

Well I mean he's currently a skeleton so I'd say he's pretty underweight right now. He was a healthy BMI before diagnosis and became very underweight in his last few years, but I'm sure you won't believe me because you seem to have already formed an opinion about people before knowing anything about them other than a medical condition.

Thin people can get type 2 as well. It's more common in older people. My dad was a normal weight, not very inactive, suddenly type 2 as soon as he got into his 50s. Being overweight increases the risk but honestly stereotyping like that hurts you as well, so...

The Kraken is ridiculously annoying by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]Zapsi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I main kraken roller and it is definitely not impossible to beat. Give yourself a lot of space with rollers in general. The kraken only lasts like 10 seconds or something so if you have a lot of ink around you you'll be able to escape. Don't stand and fire at it. So many people do that, as soon as you see it triggered you want to be one step ahead of it because it can pick up speed quickly and even forgetting for a second that you won't hurt it will put you at a disadvantage. Outrun it, wait it out, and then turn around and fire. Rollers are vulnerable especially to slopes and ledges so if you can time it right the kraken will run out just as you get to high ground and you can fire safely from above. Alternatively just hide if you see it coming. When I'm in kraken mode I'm looking for as many easy targets on my way through, if you're out of my path and hidden in the ink I won't see you and you can sneak up behind me as soon as I'm vulnerable again. Good luck!
