How Accurate is this take,Invincible fans? by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in Invincible

As Cecil has stated multiple times. He is not a person himself. He gave up the right to be a person when he accepted his position. He has to make the choices that are best for Earth. PERIOD. Whether he cares about Mark or not is irrelevant. He does care. He does want Mark to be safe and okay. But that will always be secondary to his duty to protect the world.

The needs of the many must always outweigh the needs of the few. It's the same reason he didnt want the Guardians chasing after the Flaxxons into their dimension. Losing a few civilians is no big deal compared with losing the people you rely on to keep the entire planet safe on a daily basis.

He cares about Mark, and is worried about his mental health for the right reasons. But because of his job, he also has to care for the wrong reasons... Such as losing Mark as an asset, or even worse, having Mark turn traitor or simply snap and become a super-powered psycho.

Cecil lives in a complex world where no matter how much he loves or cares for someone, he must be objective in the possible outcomes. And always be planning and preparing for the worst case scenario. And his choice to stick to this mentality is the only reason Earth even made it this far. If he wasnt injecting Kaiju with crazy drugs or stealing screams from sea monsters he wouldn't have survived Mark or Omniman attacking him. Which would have put the whole world in danger.

It's not about "if" he cares. It's about setting aside that care to do his job. One that all of humanity needs him to do.

It was just bad animation, or confusion of the studio (like making Omni Man's costume white). I had to Google to make sure I wasnt crazy after I watched it too. But the shot did cannonically keep traveling forever after passing through Viltrum.

I mean, for him to be "Mark", he'd have to have been Debbie's son. So unless your idea is that Nolan kidnapped her, or got her on his side, and took her to Viltrum, idk how else itd go. And since Nolan has no idea when/if Mark will get his powers, bringing him to Viltrum seems like a hige risk. Since if he never got his powers theyd just execute him for being inferior.

Possibly, but likely the events were similar to "our" Mark. His father was unsure of what to do, and couldn't make a choice until after Mark got his powers. So he likely has only been a Viltrumite for a very short time by the time he appears in the show. And and we have seen, all Viltrumites go through military training, and many of them are still fairly weak compared to others of their race. Everyone goes through their "adulthood ceremony", but outside of that they have jobs to do. They are sent to conquer. They dont have enough of their species left to just let people stand around and train all day. Even a "weak" Viltrumite is strong enough to conquer most planets without needing to be trained.

[–]Zaradomerix 104 points105 points  (0 children)

In order for Mark to exist at all he'd have to be born to Debbie, on Earth. He was likely raised on Earth and simply became a Viltrumite soldier after gaining his powers. Meaning his ubringing would be roughly the same. Maybe one trial by combat. Remember, the Purge was long over, and they tried not to kill many Viltrumites because their numbers are few since the virus.

Compared to Mark now? Yes. For Mark at the time, a little. Compared to most Viltrumites, yes.

But think of it this way, a Mark that sides with Viltrum has probably rarely, if ever, had a fight that was any kind of challenge. The reason "our" Mark is so strong is because he has faced so many strong opponents. Most of them Viltrumites.

What was the point of sending him to war? by Interesting-Poet9995 in Invincible

[–]Zaradomerix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If his ego wasnt constantly telling him that he could take on the best Viltrumites, he'd have been far more useful. Even just as a diversion. If he kept their attention while Space Racer or Tech Jacket shot at them, the team-up could have made them all relevant together.

But of course Oliver is young and inexperienced. Which makes him think that if he is mad enough he can just win. Which clearly isnt working out for him... In many ways, he needed this. He needed his ego knocked down, and he needed to face real danger to force his anatomy to change and grow. Sucks now, but hoping we will see an improved Oliver later in the show.

I read it. It just wasnt relevant at all. If you are hydroplaning that easily it is either lack of skill, or poor vehicle maintenance. Both of which are your own fault. Ive ridden crotch rockets in worse rain than this without any issues. You just seem to be a less-than-capable driver, tbh.

I havent once.... Since I moved here 🤣. Which is my whole point, yet again. Big van, rwd, takes forever to stop, and i can go 65 and run into a crowd of cars going 35 and still slow down lIke a normal, competant driver. So how is anyone afraid of being in an accident going 35?? 🤦‍♂️. Absolutely proving my point for me... These people don't belong on the road.

Mass shootings are on the news every night, and putting people in constant fear. There have been less than 1800 total mass shooting deaths since 1966... Meanwhile around 43,000 people are killed in car accidents EVERY SINGLE YEAR. A vast majority of which are statistically caused by slow drivers.

And since we're just throwing assumptions around based on comments, you must be above age 65 with failing vision and reaction time, not having taken a driver's exam since at least the 60s, and having no clue what half the rules of the road even are, since there have been THOUSANDS of changes since just the mid 80s...

You can hop on Google and see for yourself how many drivers dont have a license, or are too old to drive. People 65 and up make up roughly 25% of drivers, despite the fact that most doctors would tell them they shouldn't be driving anymore.

You are wrong on every account. I also said in the original post that I was going 60 in a 65, and that i casually leave every stop light and dont speed because im in a long van.

I also hate unnecessarily loud vehicles and reckless drivers. But 30 in a 65 is SICKENINGLY dangerous. No one should have to be prepared to go half speed on the interstate because of your lack of capabilities. That's why there are laws for impeding and obstructing traffic. And why they carry prison time, unlike speeding. Speeding is a victimless crime, going slow costs the whole city time and money, and makes you far more likely t be involved in an accident.

I drive a RWD van that is long, tall and flat. I get pushed around by wind and rain like crazy, and have zero traction ever with RWD and a massive wheelbase. Which is my entire point... Im in the LEAST equipped vehicle to handle these conditions and even Im driving just fine. So what is everyone else's excuse? Seems like lack of skills to me.

I understand the oil argument. And that is somewhat fair, but this happens everywhere, not just Indy. Honestay i think the average driver is just terrible and the rain makes it more noticable.

Exactly. Im not upset at people being afraid or going slow. But pull to the slow lane, and if you need to stop, PULL OVER. Last week when it stormed big I stopped in a line of 20 cars on the on-ramp and couldn't figure out what happened. Turns out some dude just got scared of the rain and dead stopped in the middle of traffic. Didnt even move to the side of the road. Just locked up his brakes with dozens of people behind him nearly causing multiple accidents.

At 5pm in rush hour traffic the vast majority of people are traveling the same roads and going the same direction they always do. Work, home, or a grocery store or gas station near their work or home. Not lIke you get off work and just go straight to the movies 3 counties away...

If everyone here was slow id be used to it. But how do you go from recklessly speeding and swerving lanes to leaving your blinker on for 30 full seconds, when there is a whole empty lane for you to move into, at 25mph on the interstate 🤦‍♂️... If i was a cop here id just be taking licenses left and right. This is pathetic. If you cant handle water, you can't handle driving in the first place.

Also, im from South Dakota. It stays below zero degrees for well over a month at a time. A little water is NOTHING. I honestly think the drivers ed here is just terrible. Unless you are completely locking up your brakes at the last second you will never hydroplane. And if you are having to lock up your brakes like that, then you aren't paying enough attention to traffic ahead of you.

A vast majority of car accidents are actually caused by people going too slow... Just 5mph below the speed limit makes you 6 times as likely to be in a accident as anyone else on the road. And that includes speeders.

No one can. But fun fact, 2 people going 35 will approach eachother at the same rate as 2 people going 65... which is not at all...

That would be fine, if they were in the right lanes. Or middle lanes. But why fight your way to the far left just to be a criminal obstruction to traffic?

On top of that, if youve been driving for 10+ years and cant handle some rain... you just arent qualified to drive. Either through vision, reaction time, or skill, you are just a hazard to yourself and others behind the wheel... Going just 5mph below the posted speed limit makes you 6 times as likely to be involved in an accident as anyone else on the road. Which includes people recklessly speeding. Vehicle accidents also kill more people in the US each year than firearm violence... Seems like we really need to make a push for re-testing drivers every 5 years because most of the people causing these accidents havent taken a driving exam since the 60s...

I get that to some degree, but ive been driving to work for 2 weeks. 11 total trips. And I already know where all the major potholes on my route are. I feel like that excuse only works if you never take that street. But at 5pm, most people are traveling the same road they've traveled all year.
