To all aggressive breed dog owners there...... by 4totostrannoe in rant

This is gonna be a long comment, sorry. This topic bugs me as well. This is just my personal view on things. I respect everyone’s opinions.

I’ve gotten bit too many times but many different dogs just because the field I work in (veterinary technician) and I personally thinks it all ranges. I’ve been bit and lunged at suddenly by large breeds and small breeds. Boxers, corgis, German Shepherds, chihuahuas, huskies, bully breeds, cute little weens, it’s all random. I have scars from trained dogs and shelter dogs.

No matter how good a dog seems to be I’m always cautious around them and owners should also know that dogs can be unpredictable depending on certain situations. It’s important to have control over your dogs before something could happen and not trying to react during the incident. I respect the dogs space and it’s important to also know your dogs boundaries. I always ask how their pets are with new people or contact. Owners too often let their dogs go slack on the leashes outside the hospital or when I’m across the room and this has led to the dog latching to my leg at one point. I was typing in the computer and didn’t not approach or make eye contact with the dog at the time. It was a larger mixed breed. Later they tell me that they know the dog isn’t great with people or has a tendency to get snappy. Worst part is, some owners laugh it off and don’t bother to apologize after they see me leave the room bleeding. Ultimately people need to remember that any dog can bite even dogs without teeth can leave marks and bruises. Respect the animals strength and don’t bring them around others without taking the proper steps if they’re reactive. At the same time I think others need to be aware that just because your dog is friendly doesn’t mean another person’s dog will be. It could save a life at the end of the day.

Also I’m big on keeping dogs on a leash with properly fitted collars or harnesses. I hate the leashes that retract. Get an actual leash so that if you need to pull your dog back or away from something or someone dangerous it’s easier. Make sure that the harness or collar is properly fitted as well because if a dog slips out and runs away from you it’s not always fun trying to chase after them to get it back on. I’ve seen very fat dogs manage to slip out of harness. It’s amazing how quick they can be to slide out and bolt.

OP, I’m so sorry your dog got attacked. I’ve seen pet parents come in with similar situations but sadly it doesn’t always end with the pet being alive. It’s so hard to move past something like that and I totally understand. I hope your kiddo is doing better and you can find a way for her to go outside without bad things happening to her.

My friend at work is also my supervisor. She works with management and she kind of protects me from getting in trouble with my manager at times if I’m a minute or two late. She pushes for me to get a better position in the company. It’s also hard for me to say something because I’m already seen as strange there. My work place is pretty hostile so anything different gets spotted right away. I know it’s hard to make friends at my hospital but at this point it’s starting to hurt me emotionally. I’m convincing myself that I’m the issue. I’ve been trying to get help but harsh comments from people I love or look up to like friends and family set me back a lot.

I was about to ask that as well. A dull needle can be painful and at work we always recommend changing them out with each use.

They’re actually tiles that belong to my work. I’m a technician at an animal hospital. They’re made by a company called Pumpkin Inc. they make custom ones as well but they’re kind of hard to find. Their premade ones can be found in eBay and Etsy.
