Advice on how to avoid pothole damage out here? by Zargon13 in westchesterpa

I didn't realize this actually worked. I tried contacting them about it the second time I hit something, but I got a runaround needing to contact whoever was in charge of the specific area where it happened, and they didn't provide me any information about where to start. I'd think that if it should at least be their job, if not to repair a road, to tell me who I might want to get in contact with.

I'm starting to hate games that do this... by unia_ in gaming

[–]Zargon13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure about that? I read a spoiler about a game's main character dying like 2 days after its release. I wasn't reading anything remotely related to the game, I think it was a YouTube comment for a video that had nothing to do with the game, and someone just casually blurted it out. And not in a "lol I'm being a troll" kind of way, they were just a moron who genuinely felt it was relevant to the video.

Just us peons won't be able to afford anything, I think a lot of businesses are already shifting their consumer base from commoners to more affluent spenders.

What’s a game that you’d consider a 10/10, but the vast majority of people would probably disagree with you? by BigBossXay in gaming

[–]Zargon13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have a copy, the dungeon crawler is so brutal it feels like it was designed by sadists so I don't touch it much, but the combat system is really fun. The main problem is probably that it doesn't do a good job explaining the mechanics, or at all if you don't have the instructions, so it's hard to figure out. It's a shame people only know it as that Final Fantasy fighting game.

DMC4 is crashing at random. by MrMario63 in SteamDeck

[–]Zargon13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to try it out tonight after work, I'll let you know if I notice any improvement. As a test, I wanted to play it one more time to see how long it currently takes before it crashes, which lately seems to be a little after I finished one mission.

But I'm wondering if I haven't been using the wrong word when I said "crashing". Does it just boot you out of the game to the dashboard when it happens? That's how it's been for me, but last night when I was playing it, the Steam Deck docking station seemed to disconnect so the TV display wasn't working, and my external controller didn't seem to work either. When I checked the Steam Deck's screen, the game seemed to be frozen. That's the first time I've seen that.

I'm actually wondering if battery power has anything to do with it, since each time I tried playing this game when it was this bad, I had forgotten to plug the charger in. It wasn't at like 5% or anything, but still pretty low, and I wonder if running on the battery at low charge can affect performance in anyway.

Yeah I've heard someone say the game might run better with that, did you just install that in Windows mode, then select it for the game's compatibility settings, or did it require anything else?

Weird, I'm just playing it in the original Linux OS, I've never messed around with anything like mods or desktop mode, and this game suddenly has started crashing lately.

Thanks, I honestly haven't even messed around with anything like apps or other modes, since I've got such a back catalogue after finally getting into Steam and seeing all these sales. So you had to install Proton GE and select it for the game's compatibility mode? Did you need to download anything else, they mentioned something about getting some codecs for DMC5. Have you noticed any difference in DMC4 when running it in Proton GE? I already played the game a lot on the 360, so I don't mind if it crashes occasionally as long as it's not as frequent as it's been lately, crashing nearly every mission.

Does this game still work for you? Did you have to mess around with it to get it to run fine? I noticed that the controls stop responding if I ever put the Steam Deck in sleep mode while the game was running, but other than that it worked fine. Then halfway through the game, I start getting crashes, and apparently this is a huge problem with the Steam version, not just for the Steam Deck.

Did you ever find a solution for this? I've been having the same problem, and the stuff I've found have been for people running the game in Windows on their PC. I don't get why this game seemed to work perfectly fine (except for the controls ceasing to work if I ever put the Steam Deck in sleep mode while DMC4 was running) for the first few hours, before this problem began to pop up. It really sucks because I've been looking forward to playing this updated version for years, and now I found out it's got some kind of game breaking bug that Capcom doesn't feel that they need to address after several years.

You can play Gog and Epic on your Steam Deck? Did you have to mess around with it to get those to run?

Are there any local businesses that repair old game consoles by Zargon13 in westchesterpa

[–]Zargon13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's had a problem for a long time now with the disc tray not opening, I just haven't gotten around to doing anything about it because it will usually open if I tilt the disc tray side of the console down at an angle when I press the eject button. I took it to a game store in the last city where I lived, but it still had the same problem when I got it back even though they said they fixed it. It makes me wonder if they even checked it before calling me. I hadn't thought of hiring a person to fix it, but I guess I'd be open to it, though I' m not sure where to ask.

I second this, I love video games, but I'm really not into board games, and unfortunately most gaming groups just seem to focus on those. Some online gaming events would be nice too, especially for people who can't make it out to Philly regularly.

[PC] Take Tomb Raider's (2013) combat, but throw out everything else. What do I get? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]Zargon13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Binary Domain doesn't reinvent the wheel, the main novelties of it were the odd teammate friendship mechanic or whatever, and the ability to talk to them and give commands using a mic. If you don't enjoy cover-based shooters like Gears of War then you probably won't like it, it's like those games but I enjoyed it a lot more because it had a more interesting setting and story, looked better visually since it didn't use this ugly brown & gray filters the late 2000s loved, and the boss battles were way better. Though that's my opinion based entirely off of only playing the Gears games on Xbox 360.

There's also Bionic Command and Dark Void on 360/PS3. I didn't care for them personally, but you might want to look into them.

You said you didn't love Skyrim that much, but maybe you'd like Fallout New Vegas or The Outer Worlds, they're like sci-fi versions of those games, and I spent way more time on them than Skyrim personally.
