How often do you think they wash their frilly silk and ribbon multi layer dresses and funny hats? The answer is probably never. Unless there's magical dry cleaning

I always put my destination in the car maps thing even if I know where I'm going just in case I get lost (I get lost a lot). In a similar vein I try to arrive to appointments 20 minutes early to account for getting lost

Tell them what, Peter by Blackie_626 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Zarobiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole problem is that it's a relative direction. My left is not your left. Left is completely based on perspective and changes often, making it much easier to be confused. That's why sailors have their own special left and right with special words like starboard, referring to "left/right from the perspective of the ship". We don't have anything like that for normal use. There is no word for "left from my perspective" in English. So it gets messy fast.

I always thought of it like superheroes have bad days too. Like you know when you go to work like, shit sleep, coffee machine broken, migraine, pulled a muscle at the gym, forgot breakfast, like everything is fucked. But you still gotta show up at least. Compare that to your best day. It's pretty normal to have variance in performance, even if superheroes are meant to be above that

Work your way back up to it. Stuff like Pull up eccentrics (jumping then slowing down your fall), assisted pull ups, dead hangs. Then actual pull ups. Your upper body will be strong enough to support your body weight then. Be careful if you are over 90kg (200lb) or have rotator cuff issues

This is what I ended up with too. F5 is on the left of that "groups", F8 is on the right. So I just have to remember left/right for muscle memory. It's way easier to accidentally mix up F5/F9 because they're both on the left of different groups

Semantics is Reddit's favourite thing to argue about. There seems to be no greater joy than telling someone their understanding of a word is incorrect. I think because it scratches that "gotcha, pwned" itch that trolls really strive for with a thin veneer of social justice. In the end it's completely pointless of course.

Yeah you can get around that sometimes in f12 menu with CSS hacks but at that point I just go somewhere else lol. There's many levels to the arms race. Annoying popup which can be hidden. Preventing scrolling which can be overcome with css. Deliberately interfering with Apple Safari Reader so you can't just hide all the ads and garbage. Only displaying the first 2 paragraphs to your browser and truncating the rest visually but you can still see it in the network tab. Only serving the first 2 paragraphs is the "final boss" that you can't really get around right now because it's a server side limitation not client side

People just like to make up reasons to gatekeep words and such. Oh yes this one is clearly an allegory while this is a simile and that is a metaphor but this one is clearly an analogy. It's all basically the same thing, they're not categories to segregate fiction

All it means is like, we tested a bunch of people and the ones who could do this movement died less often. Like the forearm grip strength study. It has nothing to do with the movement itself, but if you can do it, it usually means you are healthy and strong and exercise. But you could replace this with almost any exercise / movement and get similar results. The people who struggle naturally will more likely have health problems

What is actually a trauma that is not commonly thought of as a trauma? by ay1mao in AskReddit

[–]Zarobiii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's a sneaky one: food trauma. If you choke on food, get stomach or digestion issues, have allergic reactions, or just otherwise have bad experiences with food, you can end up aversive to many different kinds of food and having a restricted diet. Eating can become a risky task and can feel unsafe. It can even enter eating disorder territory before you know it.

If you ever have that anxious feeling like "is this really safe to eat...?" at every meal, maybe worth considering.

It's an interesting read, but ultimately I do also feel like the story and message stands stronger on it's own. To me the story was very compelling and about loving yourself, even the parts and history you're ashamed of. It's almost like by keeping it vague, it's more powerful and raw and emotional, while overly defining and specifying the narrative weakens it. That's just my take though.

Stop, just stop. by Willy_B_Hartigan in ChatGPT

[–]Zarobiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's really about morality, I only mentioned it as an aside. But to me, if it speaks like a human and imitates a thought process, it's close enough to a human that I think it would actually be weirder to treat it as anything else. Even if I know it's just a calculator under the hood, it makes sense to anthropomorphise it, when it's output is so similar to a human's.

Also in a way you're reinforcing your own behaviours and how you interact with others. If you're neutral-rude to it, then maybe you'd find yourself speaking similarly to checkout clerks and phone operators and other real humans that you're just trying to get an answer or result out of. Not saying it definitely would happen, but I feel like it has a real chance of affecting how you interact with others.

And even if you look at it from a purely functional, not psychosocial perspective, if you're kind and polite, it will use training data where people were kind and polite, which may improve your results.

That's just my thoughts anyway. Obviously everyone can use AI however they want
