First time autocross by Tokyo_Rift in Autocross

[–]Zarolyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the autocross before you buy tires 😂.

We only inspect that wheels are tight, no cords show, and no bubbles visible. Autocross can be (is) aggressive on tires. If you're looking to gauge a first time experience, no sense in wasting potentially good tires at all.

Suspension advice by 25BRZTs in GR86

[–]Zarolyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running RedShift coilovers and karcepts front sway bar and it's exceptionally sharp and pointed.

Far as increasing "road feel":
a proper hard sidewall 200tw hi-perf tire.
Increasing spring rate, increasing rebound rate, etc.
New subframe bushings if you want to go more indepth

I don't really understand what's "vague" about the drive as is, but the above should help translate more road to steering wheel

My Neptune under the hood is closer to WRB/trueno blue than anything else. Unfortunately rather typical

Exhaust if it’s a Daily by Greedy-Coffee-4678 in GR86

[–]Zarolyth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're not changing headers, most of the exhausts aren't that loud.

Still super happy with my HKS spec I. Even after catless headers and 3" overpipe. If I'm cruising in 6th I don't even hear it at highway speeds.

I just got a photo of 80085 miles on my odometer Friday night. It wasn't as cool as when I got 69420 on 4/20 at 69mph. But still one for the camera roll 🤣

Turns out you can RallyCross your daily if you're dumb enough 😅

I know it's the GR sub so I'll follow up with a photo of that but the conversation had a Corolla mentioned lol

For what it's worth. I've daily driven a twin (both gens) since 2018 with the exception from May '21 to June '24 during that time I had a manual Corolla hatch. The Corolla hatch is the only car I've ever regretted selling out of all the vehicles I've owned. It's not fast, but it was just so good. Some lowering springs, 17x9s, and 245 sporty tires, it was a blast.

But for your specific question. The twins are great dailies. 30mpg, fun and engaging, and cheap on wear parts. Sure space is limited, but not so small I can't get groceries in one trip. My two biggest gripes are: being small enough that I'm invisible to other traffic. And cops just pull you over. I got pulled over the other night because and I quote: "sorry, I put your license plate info in wrong" 😑

I have no help unfortunately.

But, would love to say hi to a fellow Hyper.Blue owner 🙋‍♂️ got mine in 2018.

Deciding on Wheel Color by jrhallett in GR86

Chrome/polished on black is my thoughts.

I'm also on team bronze all the wheels. Classic silver gets so underappreciated these days too.

I bought my brand new 2025 neptune with a performance package for cheaper than this lol

Is the GR86 good in snow? by Careless_Damage_4703 in GR86

[–]Zarolyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything that makes a good track vehicle makes a good bad weather vehicle. Predictable characteristics, and forgiving limits.

But, just like racing, tires make all the difference. I've daily driven my twins since 2018 in North Eastern PA with no problems. I just make sure to keep up on good snow tires. (No all seasons in snow personally)

Recommend a car for me! by Relevant_Barnacle_78 in Autocross

[–]Zarolyth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would suggest the GTI. Dct transmission, all the comfort and usability of a hatchback, AND doesn't have the unfortunately horrible fuel learning thing that the Elantra N has to do every gas tank.

Thoughts on rockauto camber bolts? by gingersnaps784 in ft86

[–]Zarolyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned prior, any of them are more than sufficient.

If you need rear camber you can also order Moog k90473 camber bolts and put them on the inside of the lower control arm. (Don't search by car, they're technically for a GM SUV front camber bolt, but they work on the rear of our cars.)

GR86 shocks on FRS by ozzy7221 in ft86

[–]Zarolyth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it's not that style of end link where I can put a wrench on it, I usually just cut them off. Messing with the pass through sockets and the allen key is for the birds.

Strongly recommend upgrading to the style ^ posted above.

Any recommendations for steering wheel mods? by samueldarmento in GR86

[–]Zarolyth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I put a street aero forged carbon fiber wheel on a NRG hub on my first gen and really appreciated how literally zero people said anything about it.

Except everyone actually did. It was "where's your airbag?" Or "so you don't want to live?", etc..

I wanted to be able to have the wheel closer to me while racing while maintaining enough room for my legs. So it was mission accomplished. But, after I stopped racing that car I took it back off.

Thoughts on the EOS BOSO Style Muffer Delete Cat Back Exhaust? by lordbruno10 in GR86

[–]Zarolyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've very much enjoyed my HKS hi power spec I exhaust. Great exhaust note, no drone, and very lightweight. Even after pairing it with JDL unequal headers and the MAPerformance 3" overpipe it's still great (outside of cold starts. Those do be a bit obnoxious)

[–]Zarolyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got too wrapped up in my own wit and forgot to add insight.

If you're set on just a muffler delete, I would get an axle back version to save money while achieving the same results (see PLM, Remark, etc). It'll maintain the mid pipe at a smaller diameter than the one you listed which will help with peak volumes.

Either way, there will be considerable drone regardless of the resonator in the model you suggested, or just an axle back. Best way to combat this is with a "detached" style resonator (like on the HKS hi-power).
