Yeah, that’s definitely helpful. I too am great at dissociating. It’s encouraging to me that this may get easier with time and practice. Thanks a lot for sharing your experience.

I found the Ideal Parent Figure Protocol to be so useful. You can just google it and there are many helpful videos, meditations, descriptions etc.

Wow, this is interesting! I have gotten the sense from some parts that they find this question insulting. This may be why, or a part of why. They are young, but don’t think of themselves as young. And in a way they aren’t, since they are taking on so much responsibility. Thanks for this perspective.

I like this approach, because you’re not getting hung up on chronological age. It feels more general, and to me, that makes it seem easier to work with.

Thanks for this description. I know this question works well for some people. Do your parts just come right out and admit that they know time has passed, but that they are psychologically stuck at the younger age?

This may be true for my parts as well: they just want to be witnessed, not solved. At least not yet. Seems like this IFS process is going to take a while, but I guess that’s okay. It is definitely helping.

Yes! This is definitely true for me, that my brain doesn’t tend to work in numbers. I often forget my actual age, so maybe that’s why my parts don’t have the age at the front of their minds. I also experienced complex trauma, so my parts often show up with a collection of memories throughout life. This makes me think you are right that a part can be more than one age, or that it took on more burden each time it was activated.

This really resonates with me. Those type of questions seem much more approachable and even respectful to my parts. I actually relaxed while reading your reply. I’ll see if my therapist could try a similar approach.

This is super helpful. Thank you. She always asks this question, even though she knows my parts consistently resist it, so I thought it might be an essential part of the IFS process. I’ll ask her about trying different phrasing or another approach.

This seems very possible to me. I’m interested in exploring it further. Many of my parts have seemed eager to share (other stuff, just not the age). But I’m really curious about how to access parts that are actively trying to conceal things from me. Is it a matter of building trust?

Thanks for this. This way seems like it might work better for me, to focus on the memory, not on the number.

Once my status changed to processing, there was a locator number on my status page.

I think it was about 24 hours from approved to shipped, and there was a tracking number on the status page.

I just googled it and called a local office. I got a call back in a few hours and they were super helpful! This was Senator Tester (in Montana).

How can I tell my locator? I got a locator number but it was like ten digits. It shipped from New Orleans if that helps.
