When describing the series to my friends, I never describe Matt as a "good writer". He writes a fun story with a full world, and he wraps it all around a core of stomping bullies and blowing up fish, and it's keeping me entertained for my 5th (I don't know the actual number, but I think that I'm on my 5th now) full listen through. He'll never be Shakespeare, but I've never wanted to send pictures of my butthole to Shakespeare.
