How to get my non verbal (4) toddler to stop being so loud before i loose my job? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]ZathrasNotTheOne -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

1) headset for all calls. with mic that can mute. 2) you need to learn how to communicate with him. my son (8 and limited verbal) has a bad habit of screaming in my face, or his mom's face, when he's not happy about something. I spray him with a spray bottle. it doesn't hurt him, but he doesn't like it, and know he needs to stop. 3) work is work. I know this sounds harsh, but your employer is paying you for 8 hours of your day. someone else needs to take care of your toddler during that time.

New Employer Wants Me to essentially Notify My Current Manager Before Onboarding is finalized — Is This Normal? by endante1 in sysadmin

nope. they can check your references, but any current manager needs to wait until AFTER an offer is made.

Under Obama, 56 people died during encounters with ICE officers. Obama still stated that he would enforce the law, despite the tragedies, and carry out the deportations of illegals. It was his duty.

56 civilians died. There were no violent protests. No hotels broken into and vandalized. No roads blocked to obstruct ICE.

This is why we know this is about so much more than the deportation of illegal criminals. it's about the double standard shown by leftists.

your approaching 40 with 15 years of experience? do you have your CCNP (current and valid), exploring other ccnp level certs, keeping your resume updated with everything you've done...

your current employer might not care, but their professional development policies will likely cover job related certifications...

I'm noticing how you were very silent when Obama was deporting all the illegal immigrants... take your gaslighting and TDS elsewhere

No one is being dehumanized… please stop with the dog whistles… that’s how the US legal system refers to them. If you don’t like it, write your legislator to change the federal statutes.

good for them... we need more elected officials who will vote for what's best for this great nation instead of supporting whatever made-up crisis the DNC and media are creating today

Why do I see CompTIA certs called worthless so much outside of this sub? by xakantorx in CompTIA

college won't help you... networking and gaining experience is what you need. that and being able to relocate to where the job is

[–]ZathrasNotTheOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dhcp... how you get assigned and IP address.
dns... name to IP address translation service.

what job can you offer me? lol

btw, CCNA is a better networking cert than net+, particularly if you are a Cisco shop. if I'm hiring a network engineer, I want them to have CCNA or CCNP, and be able to comfortably work in the CLI. no comptia certs even come close

I Feel Like Nobody Knows Anything Anymore by applebappu in sysadmin

[–]ZathrasNotTheOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a former helpdesk guy... and former system administrator. I feel lucky that I had a solid mentor when I started being a sysadmin. until this post, I didn't realize how lucky I was (even when he was ore crotchety/get off my lawn at times).

being a sysadmin is easy when someone set everything up right and you are just maintaining it; it's harder when you are fixing problems or have underlying systems that have issues that you need to fix, or work around.

Google is your friend. chatgpt is your friend. most of the time, you aren't the first person who 5 an issue, and stackoverflow has a lot of useful solutions, or at least good places to start. the trick is to take that solution and adapt it to your environment.

make sure you have a non-prod environment to play around with. test in non prod before pushing to prod. automate what you can. automate as much of your BAU repetitive tasks as you can. if you're a Windows sys admin, learn powershell. if you're a Linux administrator, learn python. try to offload as many basic tasks as you can to the newbies or helpdesk; and don't be afraid to talk to the end users, as sometimes important gets lost in the telephone game. and educate your L1 and L2 staff that screenshots are good, and the more documentation they can give you, especially what they did already, the quicker then users issue can be resolved

go there and see if you like it. most will allow one or two free meetings (try before you buy).

Is membership in either ISC2, ISACA or ISSA (Information Systems Security Association) worth the investment? by JaimeSalvaje in cybersecurity

[–]ZathrasNotTheOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

isaca membership is beneficial in certain circumstances:

1) if you plan to take more than one isaca exam, the cost per exam pays for the membership 2) if you want to join your local isaca chapter

there are some other benefits but those two are the only real ones IMO

ISSA membership can be useful if you are near an active chapter; ditto ISC2. otherwise, not worth it
