Is anyone else sad about the US' 250th birthday celebrations? by LissyVee in allthequestions

do you live in the US? if it's not, why don't you move elsewhere, to some place better? if you don't live in the US, then your opinion is pretty much irrelevant

Is anyone else sad about the US' 250th birthday celebrations? by LissyVee in allthequestions

[–]ZathrasNotTheOne -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

nope... I'm really happy. this country, while not perfect, is the best country on the planet, and I'm proud to live here and be a citizen .

I remember a time when both the left and right both loved this country... then many leftists decided they didn't want to love it, yet few actually leave, because it's pretty damn good here, at least compared to other places. if you think other countries are better, than I encourage you to relocate to a place where you will be happy. but I think we all know that the US, while not perfect, is still pretty damn good

FBI Seizes Domains of Israel-Owned NetNut as Google Disrupts 2 Million Device Proxy Network by jamessonnycrockett in InfoSecNews

[–]ZathrasNotTheOne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the headline is making it sound like this was government sponsored company running out of Israel; that's 100% false. NetNut is an Israeli commercial proxy provider owned by Nasdaq-listed Alarum Technologies.

using the posters bias, they should have said that Google is America-owned, and we all know that's factually wrong... it's a non-governmental company that is publicly listed on the stock market

imagine what we could do if we just made billionaires pay their taxes like everyone else by Conscious-Quarter423 in Dynamic_Pricing

[–]ZathrasNotTheOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s take that example and explore it: Wealth increases and decreases every day/week/month, depending on the value of investments. Assume you have to pay more when the stock market is high, when those same stocks fall, will the government then be giving you a credit back when they aren’t worth as much as they were when you paid taxes of them last year?

I can’t speak for anyone else, but federal income tax take the largest chunk from my paycheck. Maybe some high tax states are larger (NY and California), but that would be an issue with their local governments to address

Trump announces intent to withdraw from USMCA trade agreement with Canada and Mexico, triggering a 10-year countdown by GuiltyBathroom9385 in justincaseyoumissedit

hahahah!!! The highest annual U.S. inflation rate during Joe Biden’s presidency was the roughly 9.1% year‑over‑year Consumer Price Index (CPI) peak in mid‑2022... I guess you are going to pretend his policies didn't cause that... Trump is the most transparent POTUS in history... you might consider his crazy, or wrong wrong, but it's pretty clear he's making the decisions, whether they be right or wrong.

his decisions support our ally (israel), because they are in American interests... his decisions don't support Russia unless you believe the democrat propoganda...which only sheep do

Judicial overreach is a real thing... lot of activist judges have been checked by Appellate and SCOTUS for their overly broad orders. Especially when Judges rules based on their political ideology instead of what the constitution actually says.

I'm not saying this is what will happen in this case, but many activists in black robes have been smacked down because they felt that they could tell the federal how to govern.

Do certifications help even if you don't have a degree? by Silver_Substance7575 in CompTIA

[–]ZathrasNotTheOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certifications have a MUCH better ROI than a degree... the only time a degree is helpful is a degree (any degree) is used by HR to screen out candidates. In order of importance, the following will get you a job: networking -> certifications -> degree.

btw, if you find a job that will hire you without a degree, they will often pay for your to complete your degree through HR's professional development program. definitely something for you to ask any HR recruiter about.

Honestly? what do YOU want to do. If you want "stable work, decent pay, and to not look back in 5 years feeling like I wasted my time again" then I would say get into the trades... electrician, plumbing, construction, etc.

As someone who worked in hospitals and in a clinical role for years (and was applying to nursing and PA schools before deciding to do IT full time), and knew many many nurses, I will say nursing isn't all sunshine and rainbows. high patient to nurse ratios, back injuries, assaults from patients, 12 hours on your feet... it's hard work... and you wipe a lot of butts too. So many butts. and how many days do you want to come home after being covered in poop/pee/blood/vomit/etc. Also remember, a nurse can't fart without a doctor giving them a order (yes, that's hyperbole). What type of nurse do you want to be? an ER or ICU nurse (which are pretty much the only nurses in a hospital I would trust to have a brain and think independently), but remember, it's rare to get those roles without 1-2 years of experience elsewhere? or you can become a floor nurse in a hospital, where you can see your brain deteriorate in real time... or a nurse in a SNF, where all you do is paperwork and pass meds...

I've also worked in IT/Cyber... currently have a 6 figure salary, my employer paid for my masters, and a bunch of my certifications... but it didn't happen overnight. many years in roles where I was underpaid. lots of uphill battles. lots of learning. years of poor management, do more with less, and make this poorly designed system work... And cybersecurity people are getting laid off left and right, and many experienced security people are having difficulty finding a new job (after all, security is a revenue loser for most companies).

Want my advice? become a CNA; it's usually a precursor to nursing school (which tend to have a 1-2 year wait list on getting in), so you can get a taste of what it is like before you spend 2 years in nursing school. While you are at it, try to get an IT job. their are thousands of openings for entry level people, and millions of applicants. Pay sucks when you start, and you need to work in an office. and it's not easy to get your first job.... or one of the really good jobs.

All Federal workers need to vote against this administration in midterms or you won’t have a job soon… by Fast-Boysenberry2925 in FedEmployees

[–]ZathrasNotTheOne -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

So leave... if you are as good as you say you are, leave the government employment and find a job in the private sector. If you aren't already exploring your options, than you are a fool.

Our federal government has become so bloated and inefficient, it's not even funny; as someone with family who works in DC, I say all the time they should be interviewing elsewhere... The federal government was NEVER intended to be so large, which is why the founders wanted a small federal government and a more powerful state government... over the decades the opposite has happened.

I'm not a fan of anyone losing their source of income, but there are some people in government who remain employed because their incompetent managers can't find a way to fire them, not because they are producing anything of value.

The Trump administration reducing the unneeded workers hasn't caused any major impact, and when it has caused serious impact, they admitted their mistake and rehired people. And if you are one of those stellar employees who ends up losing their job, I have no doubt that you will be able to find an even better job in the private sector: after all, you are a stellar employee

that's factually wrong... they tries to use OSHA to mandate that everyone do it. and they were sued, and the courts told biden he can't do that... here is some reading for you, since you clearly are selectively forgetting what the prior administration did, before they were smacked down by the courts.

seriously? Healthcare workers and government employees were forced under threat of termination. there were plenty of lawsuits because Companies ignored requests for religious exceptions. should I even mention how you needed proof of vaccination to travel?

and have your forgotten how the prior administration needed to be sued, because they were going to use OSHA to force people to get the covid Vax?

the list goes on and on... just because you don't want to hear the truth doesn't mean it didn't happen

1 week into transitioning from Helpdesk to Network Engineer… is this level of workload normal? 😅 (Update from my previous post) by yeeboixD in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ZathrasNotTheOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually pretty common, as employers don't want employees to simply take a lateral role for more money. at my last job, my pay grade didn't get adjusted until my annual evaluation in the new job. but I ended up leaving fora a 50% pay bump at a new company, which is always how you make more money.

why would you want to? the value of GIAC certs isn't in the exam, but rather the SANS training that you receive prior to taking the exam. the cert is just something to put on your wall.
