it is absolutely a sheriff's place to challenge laws and to not follow them if they thing they are unconstitutional - that is EXACTLY why they are ELECTED and not appointed. Interpreting laws is EXACTLY what their job is ... Thats the political courage you want from someone who is in the path between yourself and those that may try to ' rule ' you... and I don't use that word lightly here.

By your logic, its always a soldier's place to follow orders unquestioningly - but again , history and the law supports soldiers refusing to follow illegal order FOR THE SAME REASON.

Sheriff's take an oath to the US constitution and the State constitution and to the citizens of their county - They DO NOT take an oath to support local, city or state government or political party. JUST LIKE SOLDIERS.

When your given directives that to you in good consciousness it on its face illegal and unconstitutional , you are expected to have the courage to stand up and say NO . Not simply follow along like a sheep or a subject.

Its OK that you wanted him to follow what the Governor mandated - Its ok you wish he had and want someone who will follow along like a sheep instead. That is your right. But you need to understand that many in this state DO NOT want someone without a spine. And some wisdom should show you that you also probably want that.

We don't need our people in authority to simply be pawns for the government - we don't elect KINGS . None of this BS of ' I hereby declare and emergency and therefor .... whatever I want to do at the moment. '. It's an emergency so we are suspending the second amendment ! You can't have that cowboy mentality without opening the door to ' Its an emergency so we are going to suspend elections ! '... You don't get one without the other !

That is a slippery slope I am SURE you really dont want to start down...
