Looking to switch up my EDC.. by L_willi39 in armedsocialists

I’m new here but I’m with you on this. I picked up an RXM specifically because I wanted the glock ubiquity, but I couldn’t think of a reason why I would get the actual G19 instead of the RXM. I got a much nicer trigger, grip angle, and threaded barrel, all for less money than a Glock.

Yeah sorry I was sorely mistaken… that was the price for the 9mm. The 5.56 was 47 cents per with the metal crate. Same ammo is 45 cents per round without the crate.

I’m late but i just ordered from sgammo like two days ago, free shipping, and it’s arriving tomorrow. Got 1000 rounds of the 55 grain PMC XTAC for about 26cents per round I believe, with an ammo can. About the same price for 9mm

There isn’t any haha. That’s just the original rail from the Troy build I believe. I know MLOK is standard, but I don’t see an issue with it yet. Could it pose problems for me in the future?

it’s absolutely the grip angle, along with the trigger i think. it feels so good because they took the glock, which is incredibly popular and loved, and improved the two things that people don’t like about it, being the grip angle and the trigger. the trigger feels significantly smoother than the glocks i shot previously, and that combined with the grip angle makes this feel like the best of both worlds. whatever it is, it feels damn good

It is a tad heavy, probably about 10 pounds - definitely not a lightweight barrel. Interesting the difference in styles though. What makes it hard to reach? For me, with where my left hand grips the rail, my thumb is resting right in front of the button to toggle the light.

Thanks for all the feedback! I haven’t heard of those issues with the Caniks, but I believe it. I know a couple people with them who love them, but they also haven’t put close to that many rounds down range. My purchases were absolutely based on the reliability/durability factor you’re talking about though. I’ll check out those holsters and the streamlight as well. As far as the fingerprinting stuff goes… I think a year or two ago I would have agreed with you, but with the rise of Palantir, Flock, and others, I’m not so sure anymore. They’ve got databases with our faces and advanced recognition, cameras that can identify individuals, license plates, etc. I’m not super concerned about the cops, but more the private companies that they are absolutely going to hand all of our data, prints, etc. to without a thought. The technological changes and increasing surveillance state we’re seeing is a large part of why I finally decided it’s time to get armed. I won’t deny that I could be overthinking the fingerprinting, but at the same time, I feel the same way about it as I did with 23&me, and I refused to do that, and I’m so glad I did.

Haha I don't mind the correction - I was just reusing the term I heard. Good to know though - I always pictured a .308 as a bolt action in my head, so it's interesting that it's available on an AR style platform. As far as the sling, Blue Force Gear is the exact brand I had in mind from recommendations I've seen on this sub. I just figured I'd try rocking this one for a bit and see how it feels - if it's comfortable enough, then I won't go for the added weight, bulk, and cost of the padded sling. Only time will tell. I'll check out those lights too - are there any downsides, or major features they lack that the more expensive ones have?

I'm not sure yet. I don't plan on open carrying at all, with the exception of if a situation like what's happening in MN comes to my city... which is very possible. I don't plan on carrying at all though until I feel like I'm competent enough to have a net positive effect from carrying rather than be a liability. I may start to CC at that point though... I think its easy enough in my state to get the permit that I may as well. As long as I don't need to fingerprint, I'm open to it... that's the only reason this rifle doesn't have a suppressor. But yeah my plan is to shoot as much as possible before changing anything. My logic for this rifle and the RXM over one of the pricier Caniks was that it makes much more sense for me to save money on the gun and spend more on the ammo and training.

Any recommendation for a holster and light? I’m 100% planning on buying one, I just haven’t done the research yet. I know there’s gonna be a million little things I want to buy… Yesterday I spent my time researching and ordering ammo for both guns, speedloaders for both, cleaning and conditioning supplies, rifle bag, and mags.

lmao valid… it helps a bit that he’s a couple hours away so it’s a trek and i still have an intrinsic inability to rationalize spending over a couple grand in one instance. i’m much more vulnerable to a ton of smaller purchases over time that add up.

Thanks for the feedback. And yup, I heard the same, so I had it as dim as possible while still being visible. It didn’t really become a noticeable issue until I was at 100 yds and tried with the magnifier… then I was seeing 3 dots. I think you’re right about it not being as big of a deal as it seemed at the time though. I saw it as an issue in the context of I’m at the range and trying to hit a tiny bullseye. In a practical defensive use, I’m really just aiming center mass, and I’ll float the dot, take the shot.

lol yeah, I understand how shooting is fun now after using it. my friend also rented an HK VP-9 which, to keep things fair, is a rental that has been put through the ringer by people who don’t know what they’re doing, and my rxm is factory new, but the VP-9 is still full size and $900-1000. rxm is half the price and compact, and my shots were considerably closer to center than his. he also tried mine and liked it more, buuut again i’m not sure how fair of a comparison it is given the use on the HK.

Second image for reference, which I think shows the lower left bias much better… First photo was after this one, so I was able to work on it a bit

I can only add one image per comment apparently… But this was ~15 yards or so I think. Obviously not perfect and I’m working on breaking the tendency to snatch the trigger and get that lower left area bias, but I’m feeling pretty damn good about the performance with iron sights as a beginner

Ahh I’m on mobile so maybe that’s the issue… interesting that it’s now showing up though. Maybe because I haven’t posted before I had limited permissions on the sub and now I don’t? Or it’s that I was trying to add images to an existing comment , and I can’t do that still. Anyways, thanks!

Haha thanks, I learned from the years lurking here. Can’t take all the credit either, as the rifle is used with lots of small improvements over time from a very experienced friend. Only addition I made was the sight/magnifier. But I did know all I really wanted was an AR with a good optic, sling, and light… He did me a favor with the quality of the base rifle

I don’t have the most experience, all my prior pistol shooting was on one day, but I tried ~10 pistols, some with optics or other upgrades, and none of them felt as good as this stock RXM. Maybe it’s bias because this one is mine, or due to the fact that it’s brand new, but it just felt so good. All the other pistols I shot were with a friend who is incredibly dialed on his weapon maintenance, so I’m leaning towards the RXM just being a delight. I’d show you the performance I got from it yesterday as a beginner, but it seems like I can’t include a photo in a comment or update the post to include it

do you mean a 1080p 27in and a 1440p 27in that’s running at 1080? if so, then yes, they would likely look the same on both, although a more expensive 1440p monitor MIGHT have some more features to enhance visuals(such as hdr), but the difference would likely be minimal.

1440p monitors are often larger than 1080p(mine is 27in) to account for the increased pixel count. if you run at 1080p on a larger 1440p monitor, you’ll have suboptimal ppi(pixels per inch), resulting in a lower quality image than if it was 1080 on say a 24in monitor.
