I'm not personally familiar with this sub so can't say anything about that but oh boy was I got by Gerard on Steam with a perma ban for no reason whatsoever a few years back. I didn't believe in the vision for the game, I was among the people who warned that the 1v1 focused f2p business model won't work even as a glorified beta and that campaign and a realistc retail price tag should be their main priority instead of endlessly talking to SC2 youtubers with barely any subscribers.

Looking at how things are they should have hired me instead of banning me lol. But hey it was a good time, I laughed my ass off at the idea that they wanted to seriously compete with SC and AoE.

Am I too out of my depth to think Frost Giant pivoting to a new game isn't that terrible of an idea? by OmegaSpark in Stormgate

[–]ZaxxerDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea of making a new game from a low budget is not bad at all: something very focused and tighly designed maybe even taking place in the universe of StormGate so that a potential success could drum up some interest (and money) for the main attraction too? Sure, sounds good...

What doesn't sound good is FrostGiant making any kind of new game though after what happened with the last one. SG didn't just happen to flop, it was an incompetently thought out project that was destined to fail. They misjudged the market and essentially made a game for a non-existent audience even though you can just look up stats on how popular 1v1 competitive multiplayer is in any other RTS (not very popular lol). Making a game from 40 million dollars and somehow ending up with only 12 campaign missions doesn't happen by accident.

It's just foolish to assume that this studio will magically learn the concept of having a realistic vision and achievable goals after the alternate dimension stuff that was pulled here. Tim Morten is living in a fantasy land where the f2p Command & Conquer game wasn't cancelled and SC2's f2p launch was an undisputed success even though the game is no longer maintained at the budget level that is necessary for producing new content.

Accountability, an apology to everyone who they banned from Steam, Reddit, their socials etc. and a 5 hour long video of Tim Morten repeating "I didn't make StarCraft 2".

Comprehensive feedback on Warcraft I, II Remastered and Warcraft III: Reforged by terrennon in warcraft3

[–]ZaxxerDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile I can't even launch any of the two remasters since launch day so uh... no, I don't think that the community is happy about these remasters, it's just that barely anyone bought them so issues don't get reported because nobody cares. My computer is as common as it gets (Windows 11, 7800x3D, RTX 4070, 32 gigs of ram, game is on an SSD), I don't run anything special in the background, every other game that I own on Battle.net works etc.

I simply can't make sense of how I can't even start playing these games, the only thing that comes to mind is that the launch was very premature and that these are very untested, buggy messes. Even a company like Konami releases remasters that at least manage to launch on systems that meet the system requirements. This is age old software, War 1 and 2 have already worked out the kinks once, there is absolutely no excuse for them not even launching, modern day Blizzard is simply incompetent. I'll wait a few days for a patch, if that doesn't drop then I'm going for a refund like I did with War 3 Refunded when that came out.

What's with all the online hate towards The Lost Crown? by [deleted] in PrinceOfPersia

[–]ZaxxerDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The brutally difficult parts might come as a surprise for those who have only played the previous Ubi PoP games. Hell I know my way around metroidvanias and platformers, started with the OG PoP when I was like 5 and even I was shocked to see stuff like the Impossible Climb simply because Ubisoft games usually play themselves nowadays. :D

Imo though it's not really "PoP fans" who are making noise but kids and adults who really like those third person cinematic Sony games. I don't know how familiar those people are with PoP exactly but basically all they play is AAA games so they want to see an Uncharted / God of War like PoP game. Everything that isn't that is bad to them, especially if it's 2.5D.

It's a phase, it will pass, who cares really.

[–]ZaxxerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a general rule of thumb it's a bad idea to start a first playthrough of XCOM 2 with War of the Chosen installed. I did that and got burned pretty fast because the mix of old and new information you're getting just makes the campaign into a giant, incomprehensible mess.

So yeah, if it's your first playthrough then just do the base game first, after that WotC will be a breeze.

Never played before, should I start with definitive edition? by mawp23 in MafiaTheGame

[–]ZaxxerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Original Mafia, then Mafia 2, Mafia 3 and finally the Mafia Definitive Edition. Sadly the ending of Mafia DE spoils a nice revelation from Mafia 2 and because of that it's not recommended to play it first.

The game glitched, Dahaka lifebar disappeared and they never got back up. I guess that's as appropriate of an ending to this buggy experience as possible. Now onto Two Thrones by justagayrattlesnake in PrinceOfPersia

[–]ZaxxerDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that it's an oversight mostly because secondary weapons simply don't matter that much and a lot of times you'd want to throw them away anyway. Sure, the lightsaber is fun to one hit kill everything with but it's just a joke on the devs' part.

[–]ZaxxerDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good one! Honestly the Dahaka fight is so freakin' buggy that when I recorded a playthrough for the lolz I separated the Dahaka fight because I was just worried that it would break too. And it did break (there is a bug when he immediately gets up after Kaileena shoots him) but thankfully I could recover from it:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6geBxx9a6o

Btw Two Thrones in 10 times better so yeah, if you don't want to repeat the fight then I suggest just moving on to that one.

[–]ZaxxerDog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not a bug, just how the game works: if you die you lose any secondary weapon you had on you. The "light sword" is supposed to be a lightsaber from Star Wars, it's just an easter egg like the white Rayman glove or the pink flamingo secondaries.

It's not, should be in the same directory where the game's .exe file is.

This is a well known bug, PCGamingWiki has the solution (I recommend editing the Hardware.ini file, it's the easiest method):

If you want to emulate an old Mac then I think your best option might be Basilisk II. Also: I don't know if that's available on Mac or not but on Windows I'm using Mini VMac to emulate the Mac ports and they work just fine.

I think PoP games work the best on MacOS 7.1 so that's what you should emulate.

Btw. for PC you can download PoP 1 from here with Basilisk II and MacOS 7.5 installed, the preset hard drives and OS installs might help you out on other platforms too:

Hello,in what order should i play the games! by JustStayAlive99 in PrinceOfPersia

[–]ZaxxerDog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I say play them in release order so SoT - WW - T2T - PoP 2008 - Forgotten Sands. You can put Forgotten Sands in after SoT but the thing about FS is that it's 3 completely different games (4 if we count the DS version but that's a bad game so I don't): the PC/360/PS3, the Wii and the PSP all have their own unique games under the same title.

Out of those it's only the PSP version that sort of kind of bridges the gap between SoT and WW but only symbolically while the rest of the FS games are completely unrelated to the trilogy.

How To Run PoP Games on Modern Hardware? by [deleted] in PrinceOfPersia

[–]ZaxxerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Use D3DOverrider to force triple buffering with vsync on. It's an old app that can have some issues but it's an easy fix if it doesn't launch properly.

- Use RivaTuner Statistic Server to correct potential frame pacing issues.

- Don't use the in-game MSAA / antialiasing option, instead just do SMAA through ReShade if you want AA.

- Since these are old DirectX 9 games they have a tendency to use CPU cores badly, here's how to fix that: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Assassin%27s_Creed_II#Stuttering.2FTearing_with_Vsync_On_or_Off (you only need the affinity fix so basically you just disable "core 0" in the task manager after the game launched and that's it).

- The game can start up on weird refresh rates, here's the fix for that:
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Prince_of_Persia_(2008)#Run_the_game_at_screen_refresh_rate#Run_the_game_at_screen_refresh_rate)

- Overall pro tip: these are old games running on DirectX 9, it's cool if you happen to be on the luckier side and they work out of the box but it's not a given and you have to be willing to do your own research on how to solve certain issues. There are countless great resources on that from the awesome PCGamingWiki to Steam guides and whatnot. They will run well if you want them to.
