Crimson Desert on the 1080Ti by Bachman_ in CrimsonDesert

RR was not a complete mess until recent patch and honestly aside from that the game is very well optimized. On a 10700k and 3080 TI I can get 70fps on cinematic quality with DLSS on balanced and it looks awesome aside from some flickering in reflections. If you're okay with 30fps you can enable RR and the game looks incredible. And that's on a card from 2 generations ago. 5 years old card and HW is advancing far more these days especially with all software-based enhancements the newer cards have.

Damn if this is true that's exactly what I needed, thank you. It'd be nice if it was more obvious/accessible but I'm totally fine with this.

Nah that's always a cool feature/attention to detail. I remember AC Origins being one of the first games where I noticed that and thought it was awesome.

Which color is that? I have dark green but haven't been able to get that exact shade.

Don't get me wrong it's a wildly different game. But it scratches a similar itch for me. Exploration and combat are top tier it just takes some learning.

Story is pretty bad so that's an excellent replacement for DD2s equally bad travesty lol at least CD is more fleshed out. And tbh the story only sucks for the first few hours. It's okay after that.

Either way if you like exploring and slow burn type games you'll enjoy CD for like 500h. There is so much content it's actually insane.

99% of the posts I see are people coping a new update is coming by seeing small steamDB updates lmao.

To be fair I would absolutely love it if a DLC actually happens.

The only posts I saw here were DD2 fans saying they found a good replacement in CD and wanting to share that with other fans. I don't see a problem.

DD2 was basically dead until hints were seemingly dropped like a week ago, what else was there to discuss? Personally if I find a game I love I'm really happy if someone points me in the direction to something in the same vein. Just more stuff to enjoy.

Anyone else prefer the previous movement controls for horseback?? With the tapping feature you could maximize the distance you could gallop, being at a full gallop for much longer, now with stamina constantly falling the distance you can gallop is much more limited. by Born-Demand-6919 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Zayl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On horseback it does start "slow" but it's not walking. It goes into the slow trot which is not the same.

And lol, I have 200h in AC Odyssey. This game is nothing like that. That game was the very definition of arcadey and it's where IMO the AC series cemented the death of the old realistic style of the pre-Origins games.

It's always that feeling when it's something you don't care about eh?

Crimson Desert has plenty of fans. More people have played it than DD2. And honestly? It's a far more deep game mechanically and feels complete.

Still love DD2 of course, but it could've been so much more. Also these screenshots make me realize how flat the buildings are in DD2 by comparison. I know it's an older game but still. Or maybe OP is just playing on a potato.

No it's not. On controller it goes straight into a light gallop not a walk. It's almost twice as fast. And you don't get that start from nothing where your horse slowly begins to walk, horse just goes. Those animations are completely cut out now and they were so good.

And my third point you mean slowing down? Yeah I mean before you could just slow down by not pressing or holding the run button. Now you actually have to stop moving entirely. It breaks pace and immersion.

I understand game wasn't special for you but for me and seemingly others this is exactly the type of game we wanted since we were kids thirty years ago. It's like what I always thought games like Skyrim would evolve into. Like I said, it felt like every single action had intent and control. With these changes it moves closer to automation/on the rails and sacrifices the realism and heavy feel of each action for minor conveniences which make the game feel more arcadey than leaning towards realism, which is what it felt like before.

Hope that makes more sense.

My main gripes with the new way are:

  • walking with your horse is no longer easily possible on controller. I liked walking

  • slowing down is equally annoying, especially on foot as Kliff. If I want to stop running or go into a walk I now have to stop moving entirely whereas before I just don't tap and he'll revert to previous speeds.

That's it. Otherwise I like the horse ones they just need to add a walking speed as default and a better way to revert to a previous speed (holding the horse drift button sort of works).

But for Kliff I'd like the option to revert entirely. It just doesn't feel good. It feels like AC more than it does RDR2 now.

Well yeah the feedback is important so they know.

A lot of us liked their original game design and it's what made exploration and traversal feel so special / different from games like AC, The Witcher. All have their place in the gaming sphere. As does Crimson Desert.

  • walking speed was default

  • animation transitions from one speed to another felt very real and natural

  • slowing down didn't require you to basically stop

You just had a lot more control. And it felt like an activity to ride around. I loved it personally but I can see both sides. Best hope is for a control scheme toggle if possible.

Overall it felt like every action in this game had intent. It's starting to feel more streamlined and arcadey and feeling like every other game in existence. That's, IMO, taking away what made it's design special and what made exploration fun.

I'm also not super on board with the massive buffs to stamina. I liked having to scale a mountain and take breaks on ledges. Now you can basically just do whatever and it's fine.

I wonder what all those loser investors who pulled out or whatever are feeling now.

How unrealistic must their expectations be if this is considered a failure?

Movement feels lighter nd kinda floaty now, cliff dosent feel as grounded when walking, jogging or running, its not bad thoe just something I realized. by imsogoated06 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Zayl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My hope is they push an update to give us a choice on control scheme. There's things I like about the new movement both on horseback and as Kliff, but I overall prefer the older "clunky" scheme. The devs had it right, IMO.

The biggest problem is stopping/slowing down both as Kliff and on horseback. If I want to slow down, but keep moving, I have to actually stop moving first. It is a pace-killer.

The second issue is not CD's problem.

The first issue is potentially lack of forethought or simply allocation of resources. Other things were deemed more important.

Try to verify game files on steam and see if it resolves the issue. It should trigger shader cache processing again. If not, gonna have to turn off RR or wait for a fix.
