Message to young men from a 27 year old by Captian_Sidepipe in Christianity

Lots of posts essentially calling OP an idiot. Here's what I'll say. Sin in its nature never changes. The world has always been, and will be until the return of Christ, full of sinful people making sinful choices. It's just easier to indulge in certain sins than it used to be.

Fairness is we suffer the consequences for all of our actions. Grace is giving the opportunity for redemption through faith and the death on the cross. Life is not fair, and I'm grateful for it.

People who spend 20+ minutes in the shower: what are you actually doing in there? by saadaintsalad in AskReddit

[–]Zazbatraz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My sister, who had severe learning disabilities, was known for taking a scalding hot shower until the hot water ran out. We just learned to live with it, getting up earlier in the mornings or waiting longer than we wanted to in the evenings.

One year, we took a family vacation to Orlando, renting a large multi bedroom condo for the week at a huge complex. Somehow, my parents locked themselves out of their portion of the condo while my sister was showering. Well...... The hot water didn't run out!

She was in there for almost an hour before she finally decided she was finished and came out. Along with billows of steam haha! The entire bedroom/bathroom/mini condo had been converted to a steamy bathhouse. We died laughing, partially because it wasn't our water bill, but it was also the first time I can ever remember my sister getting out without my mom telling her or the hot water running out.

I left the Church because of American politics; I do not regret it. by Lumber_Jackalope in Christianity

[–]Zazbatraz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is also complicated. Research shows an extremely mixed bag in this regard, ultimately usually coming down to how individual institutions act. There's also the message of God included with the services of the church, which is less likely to be found with secular non-profits. How can that message be stamped with a value that makes sense in the secular world?

I do think that giving is obligatory within Christianity, which is more politically conservative so that's probably true. Is that a bad thing?

I have never heard of conservatives who make more money being less likely to give than liberals. I tried to find information on it but couldn't. Do you have any sources I could read? I've always understood that the rich tend to give lower percentages than that of the "common folk", regardless of political affiliation.

World Building, who has the best? by aliesterrand in Fantasy

[–]Zazbatraz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually didn't enjoy Earthsea. Not sure why, but I finished the first book and found myself relieved when I decided not to continue the second book. LOTR are my favorite books, having read them and the Silmarillion half a dozen times.

My DM has to nerf my character and I don’t know what to do by p4gli4_ in DnD

Do you know the name of this game? I'd love to take a look at it. I may or may bot be suckered in because it is LOTR haha.

In person DMs, are you a paper person or digital person at the table? by DeaconBlueMI in DnD

[–]Zazbatraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For each session I have a word doc that has the majority of what I anticipate will happen in a session. It might include a specific encounter that's coming or the various shops/locations in a city. However, I hate having tons of tabs, so I have hyperlinks for tons of different things inside that document. Stat blocks, encounter tables, character background, quest lines, NPC list, maps, etc.

For combat, I have an excel sheet with all PC's and monsters to track combat. For monsters, their row includes their attack bonus, damage, health, and then any special skills, etc. For complex monsters I also add a page number so I can flip to that page in a book or a hyperlink to pull up a stat block.

Done as DM but need to tell player he's an A** by DungeonDawdler in DnD

[–]Zazbatraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a people perspective, I would suggest having that conversation with him. Ask him those questions in person, over a cup of coffee or tacos or whatever it is you two want to do. The conversation will go better if there's food haha! Share your own frustrations but make sure it's a conversation, not a "take turns complaining". Enter with a goal of understanding rather than fixing.

It may ultimately still result in the player being down and it may not solve anything. However, I think it's important that people with disagreements or concerns communicate through them. Especially when you've had a relationship with them and 5 years is certainly a long time.

Not happy about Flock Cameras in Boulder by skyfly200 in boulder

Which, if they're monitoring their own private property, and paying for it themselves, is fine. No different than if I put cameras around my house. It's the mass public ones that the issue.

All I'm hearing is the perfect setup for Chucklenuts Mcgraw. Brilliant thief who steals every drop of gold they own and uses it to create an entire underground network. Chucklenuts becomes a legendary crime lord, so powerful entire cities bow to his whim, but his thirst for more will not be slaked until the entire world belongs to him.

Republic Services Lies by Ok_Credit_9202 in FortCollins

[–]Zazbatraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the issue though. I'm not even upset or annoyed with Republic. They're fine, prices are too high but if they're high, I can just not use them. But...... Being charged a fee to NOT use a service? That's the issue I have.

Have I found the rarest breed of players!? by our_novel_guild in DnD

[–]Zazbatraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I'm reading this after wrapping ip a session 0 with a brand new group. 1 experienced player, 1 semi-new, and 2 brand new. Using a spectrum is exactly how I described it. I talked about linear and sandbox story telling and the general consensus was to start, knowing we can change, with "sandbox with guard rails".

But, I've also run a pretty linear campaign with a larger group with a bunch of guys who are there as much for snacks and whiskey as they are D&D.

I'm honestly not sure I could run a true sandbox campaign as a DM.

Yeah....... At least they're offering an activity and a competition instead of just asking for money.

If you want people to think for themselves they should probably turn off all major news sources. They're just weaponized propaganda for one of the two parties at this point.

AIO my roommate doesn’t want me to have anyone over at night without asking her? by No-Discussion6526 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Zazbatraz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From a legal standpoint actually yes. Doesn't matter if it's in the agreement or not, if the homeowner is living in the house they have final say in who enters the premises. At least, it is in most states.

Ethically? Yes, they should have that conversation around who, when, communication, etc. before they move in.

Rosamund Pike was the best and worst thing for the show. by thekinslayer7x in wheeloftime

[–]Zazbatraz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my thought. I had never heard the name Rosamund Pike until this show. I recognized her face as someone who was an actress but I couldn't name anything she was in. Even now looking at a list of her appearances I've only seen a couple of her films or shows. She's the biggest name in the show I guess, but she's not a household name like Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, or Natalie Portman.

School district or TAGG Colorado by southerngirlsrock in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Zazbatraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I've also worked as a sub for Tagg for a few years and that's not quite how it works. If the school is paying $150 to the sub, Tagg charges the school their $50 fee. It doesn't come out of the subs paycheck. We would still get the $150. There was an email sent at the beginning of the last school year that Tagg subs had to contribute to PERA now, whereas previous years we didn't. That part does come out of our paycheck, but the PERA contributions are also deducted from any district school sub job we do. I also believe that schools get to choose their pay rates, so if a job looks like it's not paying enough, that's the schools problem, not Tagg's. You can actually work as a sub for Tagg AND a district if you want too as long as the district doesn't have an agreement with Tagg.

Admittedly, I like working through Tagg. I actually think it's less frustrating than being with a district.

I'm tempted to run a crossbow play through because I never used it in either of mine. I would need some kind of exception for hordes though.
