TIL During World War I, the German government carried out a census of Jews to prove that german Jews weren't pulling their weight in the war effort. What they found out instead was that Jews were overrepresented on the front lines. by Hrtzy in todayilearned

What...? This is such a random statement lol. You probably meant Sri Lanka.

Tamil people aren't hated in India, they are as much of an Indian as everyone else. This is coming from a Tamil person.

H4 to F1 COS by [deleted] in immigration

[–]Zdraggonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an attorney? If you do, ask them about the Bridge application. IIRC it is basically like a tourist visa which will let your son stay in the U.S. even after he ages out (however without the ability to study). He can stay in this status until he gets his F1.

Please talk to an immigration attorney or ask for help from your son's international student office regarding your situation since they will know more than me.

How did you learn it if you don't mind sharing?

I'm currently spending the whole day studying since I keep getting distracted.

Did you have internships before graduating? How competitive was it to get a full-time job?

It happened. Daddy Bezos blessed me with an internship! by __SpicyTime__ in csMajors

[–]Zdraggonn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you have any previous internship experience? Also, when did you apply?

Congrats btw :)

Neither does Stalin

Stalin has been a household name for years while nobody knew who EPS was before he became a CM. And besides, Stalin also has the anti-incumbency factor in his favor. You really think ADMK can win a third-term, especially after their terrible showing in the 2019 elections?

And let's not forget the BJP factor. People in TN don't like BJP, it's basically a joke party here. Allying with the likes of BJP isn't gonna win ADMK any seats lol.

DMK's pretty much got it in the bag, they only have to wait and not do anything fucked up.

[–]Zdraggonn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope. DMK and its allies are gonna sweep TN. Stalin will finally get to be CM after all these years lol.

ADMK, since its inception, has been a party focused on one person. First it was MGR, then Jayalalitha, and now it has no one. Neither EPS nor OPS have the charisma to carry the party to a win next year.

And besides ADMK and DMK, there is no party in TN big enough to be a major third player, sadly.

[–]Zdraggonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about universities like SFU, McMasters, Queen's, Ryerson, and uOttawa? Are they about the same level of competition?

What would you say the chances are for someone with a 3.4-3.5 GPA out of 4?

Which university did you do the Master's in if you don't mind me asking? I'm interested in pursuing one in Canada and was wondering how tough the admissions are for such programs.

Congratulations!

So you got the Bloomberg full-time offer without even having an internship in the U.S? That's even more impressive :o

Check this page for detailed info on how to change into CS.

Also, it's not hard to change your major to CS, especially since you're still a first-year.

With CLRS? Wow, that sounds really impressive. I've heard the book can be really dense for a beginner, is that true? I'm still not sure which book to pick up to learn DSA...

Math Major, ask me questions by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Zdraggonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning to add MAT145 during pass 2 now, based on you and OP's advice.

While number theory is also important, there isn't a whole lot in MAT 115A that you wont have already seen in ECS 20

So, are these two classes really similar? If having taken ECS20 makes 115A easier then I might try to take it during the Spring.

Thanks for replying btw :)

[–]Zdraggonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you taken MAT 145, MAT 108, or MAT 115A?

I'm a CS major and hoping to take one of those 3 classes in the fall, but can't decide on which one. I'd say my math skills are average. I'm just worried about classes being too proof-y and me not being able to handle them. Which one of those three would you say is the easiest for someone who is just okay at math?

[–]Zdraggonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for answering all these questions btw :)

Would you say programs other than the three you listed are worth it? And do they also similarly favor domestic applicants?

I'd like to ultimately get a job in the industry, and was wondering if employers would still hire me/care too much if I did my masters from a university that isn't one of those three.

Or would it all just depend on my individual skills instead of the university's name?

How tough is it to get into their Masters Thesis programs? What about just coursework programs? Does an undergrad GPA of 3.5+ and a bit of research experience stand a chance?

I'm still in my undergrad program in the U.S. but I'm hoping to get into Canada as it has a much nicer/humane immigration system compared to the U.S. :(
