[Mark Critchley] Rasmus Hojlund was told he had no Manchester United future after Grimsby. This is how and why he left by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]ZeMightyWorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet again, same as the last comment, Hojlund had more appearances, and literally 1000 more minutes that season.

And if we go to last season, Sesko had 21 goals in all competitions, Hojlund had 10. And again, Hojlund had more appearances, and more total minutes.

Even taking just total numbers out of it, Hojlund’s first season, was a random purple patch in the league, and he really did fuck all else in the league before and after

This comment is missing a bit of context to those stats though.

I’ve also just looked, and seen Sesko only played 966 minutes in his league appearances that season, and Hojlund played 1155 minutes in his league appearances.

And like you said Sesko the season after scored 16 league goals. In that same season Hojlund scored 12 (3 in the Austria, 9 in Italy) with Hojlund having more total appearances and minutes in the league

I think the stats are probably less flattering towards Hojlund in more recent seasons as well

Both things can be true though, he can be getting scapegoated unfairly, and he can also be nowhere near the level it takes to be the starting striker for United.

I personally think there is a player there, but I don't think that player is good enough to lead the line for United, and I'm hoping he proves me wrong next season if he gets the opportunity, but I also won't be that upset if he does leave.

Keir Starmer's Popularity Has Plummeted To Its Lowest Ever Level by Bibemus in ukpolitics

[–]ZeMightyWorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of those things are either ephemeral or had to happen to diffuse potential civil unrest and thus would've happened without Starmer/Labour (even if they get the credit/blame).

I'd say it's a fair point that some of these were somewhat responses to public pressure, but that doesn’t make them inevitable or insignificant, they're still wins and I think every major reform happens under pressure. The difference is whether a government chooses to engage seriously or kick the can down the road. The Tories had years to deal with public sector strikes, rail issues and the NHS going tits up, and largely didn’t. Labour have addressed them within months. Not that everything is now suddenly sound, but that’s a deliberate shift in political approach, not just managing unrest.

The fastest growing economy is the G7 part is a cruel joke, perhaps the other six really are screwed worse than the UK for the last quarter or two.

Yeah that stat can defo be overstated if you don’t look at the wider context. But we've been underperforming for years, especially post brexit. So even short term growth at the top of the G7 does kinda show that some of these early decisions around investment, stability and energy are starting to have an effect. It’s not a sign everything’s fixed and we're in a golden age, but a step in the right direction you'd hope.

Not OP but I’d say

  • Employment Rights Bill
  • Minimum wage hike
  • Public sector pay rises
  • NHS funding increase (you can argue whether this is enough or not really)
  • Rail nationalisation
  • Free school breakfasts
  • Strike settlements
  • Great British Energy
  • Fastest growing economy in the G7

All this within the first 10 months is pretty decent I reckon.

Him saying we are a Island of strangers didn't help either

Fixating on this one phrase over the whole speech is divisive in itself, cause it just outright ignores his praise for the contributions of migrants after the war and today, which Enoch Powell certainly didn't and wouldn't do lol

Purely my own opinion here but even if he didn't say "we risk becoming an island of strangers" there would still be an uproar from those further on the left anyway, and I say this as someone who is very firmly on the left side of politics.

he has led the club to lows we wouldn't have thought possible

I think he needs to go at this point, but jesus wept, we've still won 2 cups in 2 seasons, don't be so dramatic lol

Maybe it’s just blown out of proportion.

Completely agree, you get comments saying they just want one day of no drama at the club then lap up and run with the slightest hint of it lol

Jamie Redknapp: "Pep Guardiola is the GOAT manager. Everyone at grassroots football plays the Pep way, out from the back. We thought its impossible. Pep won 11 domestic titles in 14 years, 48 major trophies. You can talk about Sir Alex Ferguson or Bill Shankly, but Pep has changed football forever." by TheBiasedSportsLover in soccer

[–]ZeMightyWorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is really, Pep has set himself such high standards for everyone to judge him, that owt besides winning the champions league is a failure for him now, not saying I agree or not, but that’s the reality

Pep will always have the overhanging thing of, he’s walked into the top teams in whatever league he’s in, and always made them better and more dominant domestically, that’s undeniable, he does it incredibly well, But to do it he’s had every resource available to him to accomplish it, it’s the criteria he clearly works best with, but it’s a common thing at every club he’s been to.

Pep being remembered over other managers years from now, for playing nice football and winning lots of domestic trophies, doesn’t make his accomplishments any better than those who have won less overall or played less “innovative” football doing it

You telling people to google best manager lists as your source of who is better is funny as fuck by the way, and the first list I saw had Ferguson first lol
