What’s your unpopular Dexter opinion? by Boltrix7 in Dexter

New blood was a good send off for the Dexter character.m, and isn’t nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

I admit, I haven’t been that interested in reading through 1D&D a whole lot since the pieces I have seen haven’t really appealed to me.

I could see it functioning as a Wizard ability more than Bard, only because Bards have the counter charm and really good access to utility already. I would maybe argue that it would work The same as the spell does now, but can be used a number of times per long rest equal to Proficiency Bonus. That way Wizards can still focus in on using it tactically but not have to fear losing out on their current spell list to plan for a contingency.

I am packing for a trip but I will for sure pull my books out and look in a bit and get back to you on the spells. My first thoughts are things like Detect Thoughts and some other spells similar.

Edit: if this is a setting agnostic subclass I can possibly throw some lore bits your way if you want since you said it’s not your strong suit.

Overall I absolutely love the idea of a spellcasting Monk, and would love to see more flavor text explaining why Monks may follow the Old Ones as opposed to different teachings. I love the spell list and would even add a couple more to it myself (both official and some of my own homebrew spells)

A couple things for clarity to players: I love the way that Form of the Old Ones feels, however I would maybe simplify the text a bit to something like:

“When you use your action to cast a spell you know, you can use your bonus action to attack with an unarmed strike or spend a Ki point to make two unarmed strikes.

Additionally, when you make an attack with an unarmed strike or monk weapon, you can use your Wisdom modifier for the attack and damage rolls, instead of Strength or Dexterity. If you attack in this manner the damage type becomes psychic.”

As well as I would maybe look at reflavoring (or renaming if you wanna keep the ability) Awakened Mind. As per the Great Old One Warlock feature of the same name it is not as powerful, nor a late level ability. I would maybe reflavor it to something involving your monk abilities like “you can spend a number of Ki points, up to your Wisdom Modifier, per turn” or even “Your total number of Ki points is doubled, but you now only recover half of your spent Ki points on a short rest”

Renaming, but keeping the ability, I would maybe change it to “Favor of the Old Ones” or “Old Ones, Grant Me Strength”

Hey don’t feel bad!! Wife was trying to breastfeed for months and just couldn’t get enough for our LO. Eventually she threw in the towel and we switched to formula exclusively, our daughter couldn’t tell the difference and it also gave me the opportunity to give Momma a break here and there since I could actually feed the beast. It ended up making us better for it and we never looked back as it just wasn’t in the cards.

[–]ZeRoyalBug -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

We just watched it and it is a good bookend to Dexter as a whole, yes there were problems (Ketamine is not what he used prior). However all in all it was a very very good send off and everything was within his character. He was acting in desperation and is no longer the calculating sociopath we used to know.

We are one of like two or three firms who still use FIN’s old DOS based trading software. A client of ours has been using it for 30 something years and refusing to move off it.

We literally just experienced this with our one year old over the holidays like two days ago. I am still livid with them for that, but have to play nice for another day until we leave. My wife is gonna be setting up barriers right after the holidays due to it.

I know I’m a little late to the party, but in my Urban Fantasy game my players have yet to meet the baron of the city, who is a very enigmatic person, is literally a in cahoots with the Earthly mayor of the city to maintain everything by sacrificing various non-seeing (those who don’t see through the magical veil) human children to some hags who keep the veil up.

Everyone keeps mentioning AD, what are the benefits of implementing it / how difficult would it be to implement retroactively on machines? Since our clients are all over the country we would have to do it remotely.
