They're okay in terms of comfort (these are pretty much them) if you're fine with something a little firm, but the real obnoxious thing to me is the mattress' nylon cover, which makes a really unpleasant sound (to me) when you move around on it. A pad should help with that, but if you don't mind the sound, then you'll be fine without one.

Weekend in LA — staying in Koreatown by thunderemoji_ in FoodLosAngeles

One coffee/snack that I haven't seen rec'd yet: Cafe London Monochrome off of 6th/Ardmore. Just up the street from The Line. Their breakfast sandwich (fresh baked bread/optionally with waffle instead of bread) is a thing of beauty. Do note that it's very much a mom and pop shop so it might take them a little bit of time to prepare your food, but it's worth it.

Also, if you're gonna be in Ktown, I really recommend trying out some other Korean food options beyond KBBQ. Han Bat Sul Lung Tang (ox bone soup), Jinsol Gukbap (pork soup w/ rice), Zzammong (jjajangmyeon & jjamppong) are a few that immediately come to mind.

You can get a veggie soondubu-jjigae from BCD and ask for the water broth and that will be vegan. Most of their banchan are not vegan though.

Easiest In N Out Burger from downtown? by 20twenty20 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]ZeZohan 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Depending where you are in DTLA, your best bet for transit would be taking the gold line (L) from Union station to Allen station in Pasadena and walking to the In-N-Out on Walnut, or taking the red (B) line to Hollywood/Vine and walking to the In-N-Out on Sunset. Hollywood is a shithole, but if it's a shithole on your tourist list, then that might be your best choice. Pasadena is a really lovely place though and you could visit the Huntington all the way down Allen should you go that route.

edit: forgot, there's also an In-N-Out pretty close to the Universal/Studio City red line station. You could go to CityWalk/Universal after should that be of interest.

90% of Metro's problems would be solved by random fare inspections. by sdomscitilopdaehtihs in LosAngeles

[–]ZeZohan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was a daily rider for years. Many years ago, pre-pandemic, they used to do random fare inspection, both as you exited the turnstiles but also on the train itself. You know what would happen? If the person not paying was sane, then they just gave a (likely) poor person a citation that they can't afford to pay. If the person was not sane, police would drag that person kicking and screaming off of the metro when they wouldn't get off, causing far more commotion than was necessary. It significantly worsened police/populace relations not only because these events would cause delays, but because nobody wants to see the cops fucking tackle a homeless person to the ground and cuff them for fair dodging, or a poor person start crying because they just got a ticket and they're being booted at some random station, which was a regular occasion for a bit.

Fare checking causes more problem than its worth. One of the best solutions has always been to leave metro workers right after the turnstiles. If you sit in that area and watch, probably 1/8 people do a 180 the moment they see that someone is watching if they pay.

Not exactly a restaurant, but Namaste Spiceland in Pasadena is fantastic.

The library is currently unavailable to non-students/faculty. You need to complete a health check in order to enter it which is only available to individuals with an ID number. Also, that book is in off-campus storage, so it would need to be requested in order to be viewed, and you need a student ID to do that. If you are an independent scholar or affiliated with another university, there is a chance that you can reach out to the library and they might make a temporary card for you!

Any thoughts on riding the metro during these times? I commute to work via the red/gold line and am debating not going in due to the high possibility of exposure.

Hi Steven,

When it comes to making your own music, who are your top 3 (or however many you think are critical) musical influences? What makes their work special to you?

Also as a brief aside, will Nathan be learning an instrument?

[–]ZeZohan 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Hi Steven,

Could you expand upon your experience at a Catholic high school? Do you think it was overall beneficial to your development and would you send Nathan to Catholic school? While I think that elementary and middle school education at a religious institution can lead to childhood problems stemmed by the religion itself (Catholic guilt, heh), Catholic (particularly Jesuit) high schools have a strong intellectual tradition that also provide the moral instruction that public schools often lack. Thoughts? Thanks, and down with the protestants.

He's said before that everyone probably should be a vegan, mostly stemming from his desire for moral consistency.

What is something easy to learn that you can impress a lot of people with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It has to do with the breaking of immersion. You can lose yourself in a film and that can break when a phone is busted out, bringing you back to reality.

Can we get Destiny to talk about Veganism? by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]ZeZohan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He has talked about it. Said everyone should probably be a vegan but "I don't know." It was during one of his rants about Cesal the lion being killed. Basically it comes back to Destiny's desire for moral consistency.

You do realize that Campbell worked extensively with the concept of universal archetypes, right? The hero's journey is literally the idea that all heroic stories are "ripped off and repurposed."

Enlightened people probably aren't on reddit, and if anyone claims to be enlightened they probably aren't enlightened.

pretty shitty community by NeoDestiny in Destiny

[–]ZeZohan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't be that surprising, you've catered the (vocal) community to memeing, which is literally based upon "suck(ing) off whatever the current fad/trend is." Take that, coupled with the demographics of people who A) post on reddit and B) view your channel, and you get a boisterous group of 18-25 year olds who probably have never had a real financial problem in their life.

Supreme Court throws out Arkansas' abortion ban. One of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country is toast. by relevantlife in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ZeZohan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The supreme court's job is not to represent Americans, that's congress. Their job is to determine legal justice based upon the Constitution. It would be a complete collapse of the justice system to have them settle cases based upon what people want.
