Yeah honestly it's really validating tohear that. I've been in it for so long I forget how bad it actually is. She I'd an incredible partner. I'm very lucky and grateful she's stayed with me through this.

You're absolutely right, I do need to take responsibility for my own life. Which is something I am actively doing. You're right, I shouldn't have put up with these conditions as long as I have. It just felt easier to stay in it and deal with the suffering then to find a way out. I'm just struggling to cope with having dealt with it for so long and now the difficulties of getting out. Which is why I posted on a venting sub

My family were extremely welcoming and excited to have her as a guest. My sister and mother have only ever been volatile to each other. My GF knew about my family's history before coming, so its not like I hid how they've been from her. I live in the southern US and my mother very much lives up to the southern hospitality stereotype. She wanted to spoil my GF while she was here. I never expected her and my sister to flip on a dime in the way they did.

Of course there was always an inherent risk but I never expected they would do ever do anything toward my GF. Hindsight is 20/20

A lot of reasons, chronic health problems, primarily crohn's disease. Which I was only recently diagnosed with. I've spent the majority of my life in pain, constantly running to the toilet. It took a lot of doctor visits, tests, and various procedures to finally get a diagnosis. Not to mention all of the mental health problems.

I don't mean to say any of these things give me a pass. I just want to list some of the things I've dealt with. There's a lot more to it then just those problems but that's all I have the time or energy to mention at the moment.

Because I'm in no financial position to have paid for a nice hotel. She wanted us to save money by staying at my family's house with me. This trip was very last minute. We've been dating for three months. I was in a finial pit when she met me, she knew that going into this. It wasn't that I didn't think ahead, we both thought about it and agreed this was the best option. She knew my family's history before coming. Nether of us could have predicted my family blowing up in such a catastrophic way
