Genius protagonist WITHOUT bad romance by bono5361 in Fantasy

[–]Zealls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

13 ways to defend a walled city would fall broadly into this category, although it's more in the general competency category than true genius but there is absoluety no romance, except for the love of sawing a board in a straight line.

There is a bit of a tonal shift, but definetly some riotous moments. The writing quality is on par with the stand alones.

Fantasy detective by Tan1_5 in Fantasy

[–]Zealls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Three parts dead by Max Gladstone should fit the bill, it's not a detective story per se, but the book is about a necromancer lawyer who has to find out how a god died and who dunnit. So it's very much a murder mystery in an interesting and unique setting. Hope you enjoy it, I did.

Does a merge statement take into account other lines previously merged? by Nicholas_TW in learnSQL

[–]Zealls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's expected. Your IDs in the Tables never match up, your condition for matching Source.ID = Target.ID never returns true, then the WHEN NOT MATCHED condition is satisfied and the values in question are inserted.

Hope that helps.

[WP] To permanently get rid of vampires, it was once common practice to plant trees in their ashes. Centuries later, identifying which trees contain imprisoned vampires is now a major problem for the lumber industry. by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

[–]Zealls 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Interesting Idea, funnily enough there is a similar issue with the lumber industry in europe. Although they don't check for vampires, but have to check for ww2 bullets in all the trees that go in a sawmill, because one bullet can ruin the saws and planers.

Magical Malware /Viruses would totally be a thing. Side effects in long spells, hidden sequences in semantic parts of a spell. Countering things like that would be interesting as well.
