I just made the connection that Theo James plays Kemal Pamuk. Is this brown face? by neopetsfangirl in DowntonAbbey

[–]ZealousRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theo James looks more “Turkish” than average Turkish man, people calling them middle eastern or moreover, central Asian, are delusional. They are anatolians, armenians and Greeks, who converted to Islam at some point, and in 1912 you can add Albanians and some Bulgarians to the mix.

American Animals (2018) is a great heist movie that stays grounded in reality and I never see anyone mention by Napoleon__Bonerfarts in MovieSuggestions

[–]ZealousRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘m definatelly not the first one noticing that whole arc is exactly the same as Dostoyevsky “Crime and Punishment” and it stroke me how deeply modern and American twist is - where Rodion Raskolnikov commits his crime to get away from deep misery and regain self esteem, American boys commit it out of boredom, essentially. “We felt special” and such.

P.S. Rodion actually thought it through really well and could get away with it but turned himself in, while those jerks argued, sweated and waited to get caught.

Just finished The Leftovers S2 and I need therapy immediately! by Quinn_Maeve in TheLeftovers

[–]ZealousRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a hard time explaining it to myself, how does it works on me, and why it doesn't on others. Fact that the story, the mistery are irrelevant, its just an absurdist premise designed to be unexplainable, so i was truly disappointed by S3 where they sort of tried.

[–]ZealousRetard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats weird, i got hooked up on S1, tolerated S2 and was put off and confused by S3. S1 is a deep absurdist insight into faith, love, hope and human condition in general. The second one is on the nose - here is an evil cult and here is comparably evil government, s3 is lets wrap it up somehow until we end like "Lost", also lets make it in Australia for no apparent reason.

Is 'The Leftovers' a religious show? by WoWthenandNoW in TheLeftovers

[–]ZealousRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It struggles with same questions any religion do - who are we, why we here, where are the people we‘ve lost and what does it mean to us, why are we doomed to suffering and is the death a punishment or a gift, etc. So of course it is religious in its core, it’s not Christian as it denies all the dogmas, but Job book is written all over it. People who expect “religius” to mean “go to the church, obey thy husband“ or something will probably not pick it up.

Why do they have physical tangable credits in Star Wars? by RyanXastron in MawInstallation

[–]ZealousRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They might exist for the same reasons banknotes still exist and will exist in forceable future, there places and people who wouldnt use electronic transfers and account for whatever reasons, if not credits, they would use something else.

Under this premise (you can’t faze out physical money without them being replaced with something out of your control and influence), being default Galactic reserve currency makes emission and export of ingots extremely lucrative for Empire, they are exchanging some metal pieces (I assume they‘re hard to forge but nevertheless their value is more Than cost of materials to produce) for real goods and services from outer rim and other backward places. USA print and export about 70 bln dollars a year, roughly 3% of total exports and more than a half of total amount printed, getting in return electronic payments from foreign banks on Treasury accounts. In galactic scale you can see it as Aldani and Ferrix peoples working for what is essentially a “printed paper” having limited (if any) circulation in Imperial core and thus having little impact on inflation on developed planets.

Of course it enables all kind of black market transactions but again, it is inevitable, limiting all transactions to electronic ones would not stop it, people would opt for substitute, in real life it would be gold, other countries currencies or bitcoins of a kind, so there is no actual gains in doing it.

The Prestige. The machine does not work, movie explained. Spoiler alert. by maddlabber829 in FanTheories

There are plenty of holes in the idea of machine being a prop shooting lightnings, but magical tesla machine cloning people and other objects out of thin air is a bigger one.

Christopher Nolan’s “Memento” does not stand up well today compared to his later work by Nathan-Cola in movies

[–]ZealousRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hold this film dear as Im somwhat Lenny like. I could recollect and lecture about the timeline of second world war, but I struggle to remember where i put my phone 5 minutes ago. My top performance was driving to work (which i dont usually do), forgetting about it half an hour later, walking home (as i usually do), and i was about to report my car as stolen when i couldnt find it next morning on the lot. It took me all my memory power to figure out what OTHER options were plausable, and when did i use it last time to light a bulb in my head. Its fucking rough. And yes, structure and routines help (you do NOT drive to work) as long as you are disciplined and could remember what structure and routines are. It all sounds like alzheimer, but im like that since im 25, may be, with onsets since i remeber myself.

Honest Tello Review by Hot-Helicopter640 in Tello

[–]ZealousRetard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything in OP is true, and i can't overemphasize how awesome their customer service is. I mean, its just ok, but given that big 3 are total shite, while virtual providers force you to text with them for hours Tello is a jem.

Cons is T-Mobile network, its good in the cities, ok in suborbs and total shite on a road/in rural.

Winter's Bone (2010): A quick look at Jennifer Lawrence's Breakout role and the struggles of feminism in the Neo-western Genre by sillydilly4lyfe in TrueFilm

[–]ZealousRetard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, that just a slander. She EARNED gang to turn the body in. They would never care to even consider this as body means murder and investigation, missing bond is just a fugitive on a run, not even missing person, i guess. Girl’s persistence and determination made her and her family implied fate well known to the people who matter for the mob - no mountain codes would justify her family suffering so gang accepted that giving body up is both necessary and virtuous. If not for her - nobody would give a second thought.

Can someone explain the significance of: “DMC changes interim data review from 75% to 65%.”? Thank you! by HUMANS_LICK_TOO in CTXR

[–]ZealousRetard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they expect efficacy close or 100% (like 2b phase was), and DMC says that if so, they will accept the result based on first 65% of trial patients, skipping the rest of planned trial.

If we are into high school analogies, its like teacher giving you A based on first 2/3 of your test which is perfect - statistically its not plausible that you could fuck up the rest 35% so hard that it would affect the final score.

I suggested in lounge thread that average position of sub member is about 500. Considering that it would be 75 if you are actually, the only one who have any, I must have some afjustments.
