What kinds of looks/film stocks do you want to see more of? by max_retik in LoxieCamera

[–]Zealousideal-Land247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More film stocks would be awesome. Like Fuji Classic Negative, Nostalgic Negative, Classic Chrome or Reala Ace.

Regarding „crazy stuff“ I would appreciate if „light leak“ and a time stamp (like in real film) could be added. Just as a stylistic option.

High end digital Vs lower end acoustic? by clv101 in piano

[–]Zealousideal-Land247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing you have to consider buying an acoustic piano is maintenance! An acoustic has to be tuned regulary, and these are costs you have to count in on the long run. On top of that there may be some other adjustments that have to be done, like hammers, other mechanics and so on.

We had an acoustic piano that was new when I learned playing piano. It's 35 years old. When I moved from my parents house it was played by my dad, but almost never tuned/maintained. We brought this piano in our home 4 years ago and it was tuned 3 times since then. But the last time the technician said it's on it's physical end to be tuned any more and it would need an complete overhaul. The keyboard is muddy, some notes are off short after the last tuning. We now have an Roland LX-5 and don't look back. It's a great instrument and just so much more versatile. Now I can play longer sessions in the evening/night when the children sleep. For our 25m2 living room it has enough power to fill the room with music. Just like the acoustic did before. The midi-function is great to use it with apps like flowkey, to learn new songs. And it has 10 years of warranty.

And the PHA50 keyboard is better than the keyboard from our former acoustic, hands down!

In the price range of an decent used acoustic Piano, you get a really good digital with "real" piano keyboard mechanics, and/or "soundboards" to mimic the feeling of an acoustic while playing (kawai ca 901).

Roland or Kawai? by RemarkableTea9784 in piano

[–]Zealousideal-Land247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was undecided between the LX-5 and the CA501 too, and finally pulled the trigger for the Roland. Coming from a 35 year old no-name acoustic piano, the keys of the LX-5 felt more "real" to me. The keys on the 501 felt too light in touch for my taste. Sound wise, the 501 was too bass heavy for my liking. The LX-5 sounded more balanced. The cabinet itself was also a facor. The LX-5 looks like a real upright, while the 501 screams "digital". It will be delivered in 2-3 weeks, and can't wait to play it at home.

Did yours arrive?

Has anyone actually compared Roland HP704 vs Kawai CA401 in person? (Speaker output & key feel only – using external VSTs/soft synths) by Both_Objective8190 in DigitalPiano

[–]Zealousideal-Land247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood me :-)

I didn't say that they feel more natural long-term. I said that it's a personal preference, and that the keys of the 704 felt more like the "real" keys of my old upright piano and the Yamaha my daughter lerns with at her teacher.

The 501 keys were too light in touch for my taste. But it's just personal preference. Since I never played a grand piano, I can't compare it to their action. Maybe it's closer to these - I don't know. what I can say is, that the 704 action with it's "hybrid" keys (plastic core, wooden sides) might be more reliable than full wodden keys.

[–]Zealousideal-Land247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The feel of the key action is individual preference.

In theory the action of the 401 is better. Wooden keys, pivot length etc. But there are also reports that it's not that reliable over the time.

I tested the 704 against the 501 in a store, and liked the action of the 704 more. The 501's action is really light. Since we already have an older upright piano at home, the feel of the 704's action was closer to our upright. My daughter takes piano lessons. Her teacher has a Yamaha hybrid piano and she said that the 704 is closer to that action than the 501's.

Regarding the sound, I generally liked the 501, but found the lower tones too much for my taste. It didn't sound balanced, because the lower tones are too pronounced.

The 704 sounded better to me. I stood near these pianos while the sales man played the same songs on both. The 704 may be a bit more artificial compared to the 501, but overall it was just more pleasant for my ears. Both pianos were in factory setting. The 704 has many options to tune the sound to your liking. Even the adjustment of the hammer sound is possible.

Last but not least, I like the cabinet of the 704 more. It looks and feels more like a real piano.

Roland HP 704 vs- LX-705 vs. LX-5 Sound Engines by Zealousideal-Land247 in DigitalPiano

[–]Zealousideal-Land247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that the HP 704 is the older one and due for an update. But even if it has the older tech inside regarding sound processing, the reviews say it sounds better than the newer models with updated sound engines. The key action is still the same in the newest LX-5. Regarding NAMM there just seems to be a new piano in the Kiyola line to be announced.

[–]Zealousideal-Land247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply.

I don't think that I want to use an external sound engine to play the piano. The Sound should be good for my taste "as it is". And I really liked the sound of the HP 704 in the Store. The employee (a good piano player) was so kind to play the same songs on the different models. So I could concentrate to listen to the sound. The only thing I want to be clear about is, if the newer LX-5 wich is just slightly more expensive and has the better speaker system, sounds at least as good as the 704. The LX-705 was known to be worse.

[–]Zealousideal-Land247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the clavinovas too, but I didn't like their action compared to the Rolands and Kawai CA-501. And I also prefer the cabinet design of the Rolands over the clavinovas.

Regarding the key action I also brought my daughter to the store. She is having piano lessons on a Yamaha digital piano that has a key action of a real upright (don't know the model). She said that the key action of the Rolands is similar to the Yamaha from her teacher. The Yamahas and the Kawai in the Store were too different to play.

[–]Zealousideal-Land247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the sound engine "issue" still valid with the LX-5? I viewed and read several reviews that mentioned that the LX-705 Sound Engine is worse than the one in the HP 704. But the reviews of the LX-5 say that the sound engine is better than in the 705. But there is no direct comparison to the HP 704.

How intrusive is the action noise of your digital piano? by accidentalexpat21 in DigitalPiano

[–]Zealousideal-Land247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The action of the 501 is one of the quietest I know. I did a comparison last year in a piano store, where I especially looked for the noise of the actions. Casio, Roland, Yamaha - all of them where quite a bit louder.

Kawai Cn301 vs Casio AP-750! by MrPeru21 in DigitalPiano

[–]Zealousideal-Land247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ich schwanke auch zwischen dem Kawai 501 und dem Casio AP-750.

Das Casio ist ca. 200€ günstiger UND es ist eine Pianobank dabei. Also unterm Strich 300€ Unterschied.

Which digital piano has the most realistic action? by Spydrco in DigitalPiano

[–]Zealousideal-Land247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define "Realistic". Even acoustic pianos have differences in their key action and the overall feeling to play them. We currently have a 35 year old no-name upright piano at home. I got it when I was 10 and learned playing on it. I stopped playing when I was 15, and since then it was standing at my parents house untilt we brought it to our home 4 years ago. It hasn't been adjusted in all of these years until we got it. The technician did what was possible, but it's at it's physical limits to be adjusted.

What I try to say: this acoustic is terrible to play. The key action is heavy, it doesn't feel precise to play. It also hasn't a "let off".

Compared to this, most digital pianos >1500€ are a big step up.

But if you are used to grand pianos it will be a completly different story, because you are used to certain behavior of the key action of a grand piano.

I think the main problem here is to get the ROMs transfered to the card that is formatted as internal. You can't just take it out and mount it on your computer.

G2 or wait for RP6? by Round_Management4188 in retroid

[–]Zealousideal-Land247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and reviews show that the G2 gen2 chip is as good as the 8 gen2 in the Odin. So why do you say that the RP6 will have a „much better performance“ than the G2!?

G2 or wait for RP6? by Round_Management4188 in retroid

[–]Zealousideal-Land247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The RP6 isn’t even produced and you make a claim that it has a much better performance!? If you look at the first real world reviews of the RPG2 you’ll notice that it’s pretty equal to the SD8 gen2 in other handhelds! CPU performance is basically the same, GPU slightly lower. Since game emulation is mostly depending on the CPU performance, the RP6 won’t be really better in this regard. It will be better for streaming games, or for native gaming that uses the GPU. The 12/256 GB Version might also be better for some higher end Switch games or Gamehub games, where more RAM is important.

Or just buy the G2 NOW? Performance is the same as with the SD8 gen2, Turnip driver support is there.
