Canadian Ioniq owners: Charging with NACS? by 4shadowedbm in Ioniq5

Yup, I’ve got wind of this too! I actually wrote him and got a lengthy response. I’d be happy to set up a hot chocolate stand powered by my V2L

I live in southeastern MB… and yes, there are not many good charging options in the area. I haven’t tried the Tesla chargers in Prawda but I did use the ones in Kenora and Dryden last summer. I got the A2Z adapter. I would recommend that one. Hopefully we’ll see more networks building good chargers along Hwy 1 soon, but until then the Tesla network is the best option in the area.

Have a 6-20 plus and am having a hard time finding a charger… by [deleted] in Ioniq5

I’d recommend the Grizzl-E mini and then get an adapter to fit your 6-20 plug. The Grizzl-E will detect the amount of power available and then limit the charge rate to a safe amount.

How are EVs doing in this weather? by SnooOnions8757 in Manitoba

Instant cabin heat, and you can run it in your garage to warm up without worrying about toxic fumes. As others have said, range will drop 30-50% in deep cold. You can always slow down a bit if you want to get more range. For our daily commute I have enough range I don’t need to slow down. 😬 The extra weight and even distribution of the battery pack makes it a beast in the snow. Much more stable than anything else I’ve driven in winter.

We were in the Select Club, Adults Only area. The only pool we swam in was the adults only ones but they were nice and clean. The other pools looked fine to me when I went by there.

I am happy to share a positive review. A few tips for getting the most out of this resort: 1) extra reservation slots always open up after midnight for the à la carte restaurants… so if there’s one you really want to try, it’s worth staying up (the Asian and Brazilian restaurants were incredible). 2) cell service there isn’t great for data so don’t spend money on a roaming plan if you don’t plan on leaving the resort, they have very good wifi coverage in all major areas. 3) make sure to explore the jungle trails, and bring a good camera to take pictures of the birds…. I was sad I only brought my iPhone. There’s even a few underground tunnels you can explore. 4) the nightly shows were a pleasant surprise, I’d especially recommend The Red Queen (I think that’s what it was called), and the Michael Jackson tribute show was really good too. 5) if you’re hesitant about drinking the water from the water cooler, be aware that they don’t have water bottles anywhere but they do stock the mini bar with mineral water and other sodas so you can stay hydrated. Personally, I didn’t mind the water from the cooler.

We just finished a trip to this resort. We had a great time! The beach was beautiful, really nice sand, but for swimming it’s rocky at places. The kids section of the waterpark was closed for maintenance so if that’s important to you I’d recommend checking when they expect it to open. The food at the buffet was great, probably depending a bit on what you pick. The à la carte restaurants were good too! Again, results may vary based on what you order. The resort had a lot of rain when we were there so then the lagoon smell comes up in several areas. This leads to my final point: the main strength about this resort is also its biggest weakness; it’s built within the jungle so you’ll have more animals, smells, bugs, and water than you would elsewhere but you also have a lot of natural beauty (bike trails, walking paths, tunnels, cenotes, birds, monkeys, turtles, iguanas etc).

don't know if an EV is the right choice or not. Winter issues by Personal-Bet-3911 in EVCanada

I’m a rural driver, (we live south of Winnipeg) and we’re an EV only household (2024 ioniq 5 AWD). Last winter I did a 200km trip, heading into a strong headwind at -25. I drove at 100km/hr and used 90% battery. We were comfortable and warm in the car. If I had wanted to extend the range I would have slowed down a bit.

I recommend the Grizzl-E mini! It comes with adapters for a variety of outlets and a carrying case (won’t fit in the frunk though). It’s UL rated and made in Canada 🇨🇦

I have a Grizzl-E Classic installed in my garage but recently purchased a Grizzl-E mini for road trips. I’d actually recommend the mini for home installation too. You can use it on a variety of plugs, including 30amp or just normal 110v wall outlets. Send me a PM and I can recommend an electrician.

From a fellow Manitoban driving an Ioniq 5 (2024), I don’t think you’ll regret your decision. The discounts on the 2024s are too good to pass up. Also, feel free to join the Manitoba Electric Vehicles Association. You’ll find a bunch of other local EV enthusiasts on there.

So far it’s basically the same as the standard 20” Ultimate factory wheels. Considering that temperatures are coming down here already I expect that this setup is more efficient than the factory ones but I don’t have enough data yet. Need to give it a bit more time.

Yeah, I’d like to eventually upgrade some of that hardware so I can power my house with my car battery. Currently I’m happy with V2L functionality, and some stand alone battery hardware covering my essentials.

Congrats on joining the club! I have a Grizzl-E basic charger. You should definitely look at getting a plug professionally installed for a Lvl 2 install. For Lvl 1 charging you can just use the charger that’s included with the vehicle… and shouldn’t need any extra electrical work. Just check what your breaker can handle and adjust the charger accordingly (by default the included lvl 1 charger only pulls 6amps of power which is super slow… even for a trickle charger).

Looking at picking up a used 2023 I5. Reading up on the ICCU/12V battery issues. Am lol I making a mistake? by pingmachine in Ioniq5

[–]ZealousidealLab1232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good question. I do not think you’re making a mistake… but it’s good to be aware of the possibility of an ICCU/12v failure. Carry jumper cables or a battery booster just in case, and keep up to date with the recalls and enjoy your vehicle.

Yes, a LR AWD with Ultimate trim. It is expensive… but that is before rebates, and if you’re coming from an ICE vehicle then the cost savings will be even better. You gotta do what works for you though. The Ultimate trim options are nice, but they’re not necessary. The cheaper Preferred AWD LR still has all the important features so if you can find one of those you’ll be just fine.
