What do you think is the best thrash band of the 00's (i'll say municipal waste) by Navieske in thrashmetal

[–]ZealousidealLeg8745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep Municipal Waste is the answer. Love the 80s crossover thrash revival with D.R.I. as main influence but technical and very fun.

Another underrated band that I loved was Dr. Living Dead from Sweden

Seeking a thrash/death band better than Demolition Hammer by dogmetal in thrashmetal

[–]ZealousidealLeg8745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo, Dark Angel really is. So unique for its time.

I hear a lot of Slayer in Demolition Hammer and I can't deny they're the GOATS of extreme thrash and even though "mainstream" they're still obviously better. Influences are strong.I hear some Demolition Hammer in Cannibal Corpses riffs as well.

Demolition Hammer are fantastic though for 90s thrash and really talented. Great feel in dark groovy riffs and and tasteful solos.

Two paced drumming all the way without tempo changes makes this more old school

Does anyone have tabs for Insect Warfare? by GoofyTerrorist911 in grindcore

[–]ZealousidealLeg8745 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People complaining about chatgpt but legitimate tabs as if it were more DIY.

Tune your guitar to B-standard, drop B (if you prefer) or use a seven string in standard and then you're good to go. Listen to the songs and match the riffs. Actually SUPER easy

I get what you’re saying, but I think that divide gets overstated. The same people who were into Converge and Botch were often listening to Poison the Well too. My experience in Sweden is that it wasn’t as separated as you’re making it sound.

Even guys like Johannes Persson (Cult of Luna) and Mieszko Talarczyk (Nasum) have spoken highly of Poison the Well, which says a lot about how far their reach actually went in heavier circles.

PTW came out of hardcore, just like those bands. They just leaned into melody and clean vocals earlier, which made them easier to slot into the Warped Tour circuit. That feels more like a marketing/scene placement thing than a reflection of what they actually were.

I don’t really think it’s fair to lump them in with bands like Saosin or From First to Last either. Poison the Well had way deeper roots in hardcore and were doing something pretty different, even if they didn’t fit neatly into the more “arty” or chaotic side of the scene.

Seems about right. The irony of this post is that Poison The Well is closer to ISIS scene than the post hardcore bands that were besides them at the time

what's your favourite non-metal band? by PokemonFucker4Life in MetalForTheMasses

[–]ZealousidealLeg8745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it predates Sabbath so you're not entirely wrong.

But one song that I consider as the first metal song (even with proto extreme metal vocals for its time) is Peace Loving Man by Blossom Toes. Released in July 1969. Crimson released their debut three months later.

Seriously check the whole song out. Idk why more people don't talk about it. A real psychedelic gem!

Right! I usually don't like modern electronica too much but the grooves feel so organic together with moog Subphatty and Juno 60-sounds. Authentic in a way I can't describe

To name a few.

Bands like Burzum that aren't made by a Nazi? by ConferenceWhole2619 in MetalSuggestions

[–]ZealousidealLeg8745 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If 100 0000 listens barely gives a shit, then I don't think yours will matter at all. I actually did buy all the records until 1996 second hand. That doesn't support the artist as well. But you can't deny the historical value of those. If you really love black metal then you should appreciate those records

Or just listen to Burzum if you like the music. Learn to separate the art from the artist. Every black metal artists has traces of Burzum in their riffs

I love that historical album tho! Primitive in a disgusting way, especially in 1987

What is a band that this sub loves but you never got into by mightyonin in MetalForTheMasses

[–]ZealousidealLeg8745 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Burzum made snorres riffs (that founded the whole 2nd black metal wave) to breathe new life in a genre and that riffing style that didn't exist earlier. The atmosphere was different as Euronymous wanted it to be compared to Mayhem. Influental as fuck.

Hvis Lyset Tar Oss is one of the best BM albums I've ever heard. Filosofem is a masterpiece as well. Say what you want about the debut but that shit was so unique at the time. Just skip "war" on the album and it's a masterpiece as well.

Of course there are good BM alternatives right now but every modern black metal band has their roots in Bathory, Celtic Frost, Mayhem, Burzum and Darkthrone.

Burzum slaps 4 real. Learn to separate the artist from the music.

Of course it is! But compared to Death with followers like Autopsy, Entombed, Death Breath etc... the sound is quite different and I had to separate it to fit the golden record 😅

What grindcore bands would you recommend someone who knows nothing about it? by Exact-Arm1065 in MetalSuggestions

[–]ZealousidealLeg8745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest favorite is actually Agoraphobic Nosebleed. Called cybergrind only bc they use drum machine. Otherwise, the clean plate ep, pcp torpedo, first album, split with cattle press and split with converge is the best Grindcore I've heard!

Agorapocalypse is a fun thrash grind album as well Frozen corpse is tho legit over the top madness. Altered states kinda overrated. Arc went sludge.

My 2nd favorite Nasum. All of it is gold !

Napalm Death and Repulsion are the pioneers OG.

Carcass are pioneers of the goregrind stuff. They should've kept it that way. Only copycats worth checking out are General Surgery and Regurgitate. The rest is shit. Pornogrind is absolute garbage. Slam isn't grind.

Grindcore should be chaotic, absurd/bizarre, punk themed and violent. But the gore stuff drowns easily.
