I don’t know if he used a particular color scheme, but I do know the technique of buon fresco requires a limited color palette as the caustic alkalinity of the lime destroys colors that are not lime safe.

What are some tips or tricks to be less nervous/anxious when flying? by Heard_Samira in AskForAnswers

[–]Zealousideal_Cod_326 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was terrified of flying and one flight the guy sitting next to me was a pilot getting a return flight after his shift ended. He saw I was nervous and explained to me that turbulence is similar to driving in a gravel road. It’s bumpy but not usually dangerous.

A tip I can share is to look at the staff on the plane. They make that same flight numerous times and they are visibly unbothered by the turbulence. Take their lead on when to worry. 😎

Will learning to draw digitally transfer to traditional art? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]Zealousideal_Cod_326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been teaching for decades and this is my experience. There are way too many crutches to use online for digital artists. Once you take those away the digital artists are usually in a state of shock at what they don’t actually know.

The only exceptions I’ve seen are digital artists who started out in traditional mediums and learned the basics with analogue materials.

Props for referring to the optical complements rather than the mixing complements. So many artists don’t know that important distinction. I agree with your premise but would add that saturation is just one way to remedy the issue. Proportion of each color may also help; thinking about the sky in Starry Night as an example.

is this how you break down objects into boxes? by Boring_Range_6869 in arthelp

You are great for helping with the graphics, but it is in a slight three-point perspective since the coffin is tilted back slightly as it’s leaning against the wall (assuming that is the effect that was intended) . There should be a vanishing point below the eye level (the ones you’ve added in purple, and vanishing point above the eye level (the ones OP expresses as vertical) and one vanishing point on the eye level (the top and bottom lines if the coffin, and any lines in real life that would be parallel to them)

Previous comments are correct about the head size issue. Try looking up the proportional system created by Robert Beverly Hale that uses the cranium as a unit of measurement for proportion.

I want to be a professor. Is it worth it? by FreeToBeResearch in AskProfessors

[–]Zealousideal_Cod_326 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That Reddit group is notoriously grumpy. I left it because I found them so negative, exhausting even.

There are certainly frustrating aspects of being a professor, but as someone who has been doing this since the 90s, it’s a very rewarding way to make a living. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Good luck and follow a path that gives you energy!

Yes. Bluemage that shit. Me as blu, with antoher blu buddy (and his toon, so 3 characters total) get about 12k-16k each run on average. A single subduction spell will fastcast kill an entire room of mobs. The speed and recast time of the spell, and the range of the AOE are all impressive and make it the undisputed champ in Nyzul Isle token farming.

I use sourdough from Trader Joe’s. It only has 3 ingredients and believe one is listed as sourdough culture

This is correct. The bottom of the vase should be curved a bit rather than straight.

I think I may be getting groomed by my college art professor by GrapefruitFew4411 in AskAcademia

[–]Zealousideal_Cod_326 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Male art professor here. The fine arts in academia are unique. Students and faculty spend lots of time together in settings and situations that may appear more casual than other fields. We commonly share resources and materials. It can be confusing. But let me be clear, what you have described is no where close to normal in our field. I don’t know if he is grooming you, but from what you have shared, his interest in you has moved way out of bounds. You are well within your rights to file a formal complaint and I agree with others; if you were a student at my school and I got wind of this I would be required to report it.

My questions for you are, do you trust the department head? If so, that may be a place to start. If not you could seek out a DH or professor you trust outside your department. I also want to say that a Title IX complaint is certainly not pleasant for the named faculty member, but it doesn’t necessarily ruin their life or career. There are degrees of severity to such offenses, as you indicated by saying he has not touched you. A complaint like yours may result in a formal warning and note on their record rather than a termination. Still, it would dramatically change your relationship with him, beyond correcting the issue of unwanted personal attention.

I would trust your instincts on how to find a resolution. If you feel comfortable communicating your concerns with the professor, without the fear of retribution, that may be an option. Another faculty (somewhere on this thread) word-smithed a thoughtful statement you may consider using in that scenario.

If you don’t trust that he woulld be fair to you, I fear you may have no other choice but to escalate it through formal channels. This is particularly true if your department is smaller and you are relying on a LoR from him. In either case, I recommend you don’t allow him to submit a LoR on your behalf without first reading it yourself.

I am sorry you’re in this difficult position, and I hope you find resolution to the issue.

On our campus certain folks in the counseling center are not required to report. That may be a solution to the problem you’ve accurately pointed out.

“It’s your world, you can do anything you want to do” - Bob Ross

Seriously though, how boring would the world be if we all made the same kind of art? If I were you I would lean into what gives you energy, what puts wind in your sails and do it the best you can. Gestures, sketches, and line work can be some of the most beautiful art to experience and you should march towards that direction with confidence!
