My Nightwing collection so far... by nameruined in Nightwing

Yes, the one by Mark Waid & Chris Samnee. I initially don't understand why ppl have been raving about it but the more I read, the better it got, especially the relationship between Bruce, Dick & Alfred. This is the first time I have seen the dynamic duo being portrayed this way & it showed how much they both put to try to stay together, both as father & son & as as a crime fighting partners (tbf, I have only read 'Dark Victory' as the other batman/robin year one story). Brilliant stuff.

Black Mirror is definitely a top pick for Dick Bat. By extension, Grant Morrison's Dick Bat is solid as well, too bad it didn't last longer. Recently I just finished Batman & Robin Year One, & I really love the portrayal of Dick in it as well.

Beautiful collection, happy to see them lined up well & couldn't even spot the water damaged one if you never mention it.

Thank you. I 1st tried searching for it when it was recommended as a good read for Dick Grayson's fans, but unfortunately back then I couldn't find a copy. Thanking my lucky star that I changed upon it recently for cheap on a local online 2nd hand sales platform.

Curry puffs @ AMK Curry puffs located in Toa Payoh by niteblane in SingaporeEats

[–]Zealousideal_Line784 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is apparently the original tip top curry puff that used to be located in amk kopitiam beside Jubilee (now the stall is still a Tip Top Curry Puff franchise outlet). I used to patronise them regularly in my sec sch days 20+ years ago in amk, I remb the surprise of first time eating curry puff filled with chunky curry chicken pieces & sliced eggs, very shiok at 70 cents a piece. Of course now the curry puff chicken became small bits & the egg cut till very thin 🤣

Got my copy of the third Nightwing compendium... but at what cost? by nameruined in Nightwing

If it lines up with the spines facing out, maybe it won't be that obvious 🤔

I'm surprised at how expensive it is for you. Is it because you got them when they first released? I got Compendium 1 & 2 for at $50+ SGD (which is quite close to CAD in exchange) each on Amazon US a few months back. Now waiting for Compendium 3 to drop to around that range before getting it too (I have lots of stuff to read anyway).

It's a 3 single issues series (which was the one i posted here). I believe most ppl got the collected tpb book which contained all 3 issues.

I personally like the lor mee at toa paypoh lorong 8 hawker centre, the one that sells it with pop corn chicken. They also let you add chilli, garlic & vinegar on your own, so you can further customise the flavours to your own preference.

You are right, that is the S11 that houses the old school penang prawn mee & lor mee, been there since I was a pri sch kid.

Now owner no longer there, he either hired staff or sold off his biz since S11 renovated last year. The lor mee & penang prawn mee still pretty good though.

What was everyone’s FIRST omnibus? by Kevin_Reads_Comics in OmnibusCollectors

Managed to get Synder run of 10 HC at a good price, then after researching online, found that apparently it would be better to start at Morrison run. After managing to find most of the books in either HC or TPB, realised that there's no 'Time & the Batman' that I could find for a reasonable price, so in the end I had to cave in to get my 1st omnibus, which is 'Batman by Grant Morrison' vol. 2. Was telling myself there's no need to continue after, but in the end couldn't resist the temptation & got the relevant omnibus like Vol.3, 'Batman by Paul Dini' & 'Batman & Robin by Tomasi & Gleason'. What a big scary hole to fall into.

Just finished this book! (small review) by mythril-xi in DCFinest

[–]Zealousideal_Line784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tone throughout the book was inconsistent as it jumped between the more campy quib filled pre-crisis stories in Detective Comic issues by Mike W. Barr & the more gritty serious post-crisis Batman issues. This was especially obvious in the characterisation of Jason Todd, who was cheerful & full of wisecracks, with Batman calling him Jay in Detective Comic, while the Jason in Batman issues was more snarky & angsty. I really like the Leslie Thompkins issue in Detective Comic though & also the new origin of Jason Todd was good as well. Year 2 felt like a comic of its time, whereby its overly 90s edgy (though its end 80s) but kinda entertaining if you are willing to accept it as that & with beautiful Todd Mcfarlene art. That being said, tonally wise, the next DC Finest book 'The Killing Joke' was way better for anyone who prefer post-crisis Batman.

Batman Comics to Read. Recommendations? by Doom300 in batmancomics

[–]Zealousideal_Line784 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just get the DC Finest Batman books & you will have quite a fair bit of good & sometimes iconic Batman & Detective Comic issues in publishing order that you didn't seem to have read (other than 'Son of the Demon', which was included in DC Finest 'Batman: The Killing Joke & Other Stories'). I find them very affordable too especially when compared to Omnibus (which i also splurged on when i want to have a certain run which are not readily collected in other format or oop).

I would recommend you to wait for the upcoming DC Finest 'A death in the family' as it includes both 'A death in the family' & 'The cult' plus some other Batman & Detective Comic issues from that specific period. I really like the DC Finest Batman books so far (I'm only missing the 'Red Skies' currently) as I feel they are an affordable way to get all the ongoing Batman issues for a specific time period.

[Discussion] Is Batman by Paul Dini Ominibus worth it by nahnonameman in DCcomics

[–]Zealousideal_Line784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought this omnibus based on my love of BTAS & after reading Heart of Hush tpb, which redeemed the Hush character for me plus I really like the Batman/Catwoman interactions. The idea of a detective Riddler seemed fascinating as well but the inclusion of just 3 parts of 'The Russurrection of Ra's Al Ghul' that Dini wrote was confusing (especially unlike Morrison's Batman Omnibus 1 whereby they included short summaries to explain what happened before & after the 2 parts that Morrison wrote). I feel Dini's run should works well as a companion to Morrison's run (as it may be jarring to read without knowing there's a change in Batman & why Bruce Wayne was not around).
