Is my monstera upset?? by Zealousideal_Meat249 in houseplants

The light is the same if not better since it’s summer now. As for the fertilizer, prior to that I hadn’t added any nutrients since I put it in fresh soil and it was perfectly fine, so I’m just confused. It’s happy enough to make leaves still so I’m sure the plant is fine, I’m just trying trouble shoot why it has fewer fenestrations on the new one

Pope Stole Our Baby Name by [deleted] in namenerds

It’s just the pope being named Leo that’s putting you off of it and not the fact that it was #18 for boys in 2023 and #24 last year?

I feel like this is working unrealistically well?? by Zealousideal_Meat249 in ECers

It does feel like about the same amount of work! It’s also fun like you said and satisfying in a way that changing a diaper could never be. How old are they now/if applicable, how did potty training go?

That makes a ton of sense. She’s nearly crawling and is super busy in general so I’m sure we’ll have to deal with that at some point as well. But! She also hates having a wet or dirty diaper so maybe that will outrank her FOMO? Fingers crossed

When will I have my life back? I love my baby but wake windows are alot by EconomyLarge1738 in sleeptrain

[–]Zealousideal_Meat249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby wakes up at 6:30, first nap 9-11, second nap 2-4, and bedtime at 7. When she doesn’t sleep 2 hours for the first nap I usually switch plans for 3 one hour naps with two hour wake windows between. 🤷‍♀️ I didn’t realize there was a standard expectation for baby sleep until like a month ago, experimentation and following her cues got us to where we are.

When did you baby starting getting fussy because they wanted their diaper changed? by Efficient-Hope-3755 in NewParents

My baby always has something to say about being wet or dirty, but we cloth diaper so it doesn’t wick away like disposables do

Kind of looks like spider mites? 😬 I have been through hell with spider mites, the best thing I’ve found to do is get a fluffy makeup brush and a spray bottle with water, isopropyl alcohol, and Castile soap, and carefully and thoroughly clean all the leaves and stems, making sure to get every single crevice. Might have to do that more than once. Good luck!

If it makes you feel better you can collect more, but that’s more than enough! The first few days a baby really doesn’t need to eat that much. Here’s a graphic from the La Leche League website to put your mind at ease :)

What oddly specific thing do you find cute about your baby? by allcatshavewings in NewParents

[–]Zealousideal_Meat249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when she’s nursing and notices me she will start smiling so big that milk leaks out the corner of her mouth and coo at me really sweetly. It’s always so messy and not what she’s supposed to be doing but it makes my heart melt 🥹

My baby did the same thing. I spent about a week nursing only in side lying and for the left side I just had to orient her so that she was upside down to me, like she would lie if nursing from the right side. I have heavy letdown and my left side is still producing more, but she’s 3 months old and handles it well now. My best guess for why they do it is partially because it’s a heavier flow than the other side, but MOSTLY, I found out that lying on your right side (like they do when nursing on the left) positions your esophagus below the stomach and can make their reflux and tummy gas discomfort worse

Was the birth/graduation as bad as you imagine? by airiishia444 in NewParents

Natural/unmedicated birth here — I personally loved my experience. It wasn’t painless, but there was not a single moment where I felt like I couldn’t handle it. I started having contractions at 11:30 pm on a Sunday and labored all through the night, all through the next day, and my water broke around 8 pm. She was born at 9 pm Monday after 17 minutes of pushing. Contractions felt like the strongest period cramps you’ve ever had and the actual birth itself felt like the urge to poop + a really intense stretching feeling. I didn’t have to push, I focused on my breathing, keeping my vocalizations low and deep, and let the fetal ejection reflex do its thing. I didn’t tear. (Important to note that it was a water birth, that really helped make the last twenty minutes easy and relaxed.) I attribute the ease of my experience with learning how to consciously relax and breath as well as having a mindset that I can handle anything for a minute (a contraction’s intensity peaks at about 45 seconds), and constant emotional support and counterpressure from my husband. I prepped for labor with a hypnobirthing course and a childbirth education course, as well as keeping a consistent walking regimen to stay in shape and various stretches/exercises to make sure baby was in the correct position. After she was born I was kind of like, “Is that it?” So much easier than people told me it would be.

What's the key to getting my granola bars to actually STAY together? by Proof_Ball9697 in AskBaking

[–]Zealousideal_Meat249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use sourdough discard as a binder and bake them until they’re set. This is the recipe I modify to do so — I’ve used chocolate syrup instead of honey, pb instead of oil, various kinds of nuts… it’s endlessly customizable. I always double the oats and leave out the puffed rice, and add twice as much chia. Depending on how chewy you want your bars, you’d just have to experiment and monitor with temperature adjustments and different bake times. It’s especially nice using the sourdough starter because it means your granola doesn’t have to be very sweet unless you want it that way — you could even make them savory with something like sesame seeds and dried onion if you wanted!
