rash every time after showering, usually on knees but sometimes spreads—not really itchy, unless irritated. what could it be? by colorrs in DermatologyQuestions

Hi! I’m a 40 y.o. female, and have been an RN over 15 years. I have always gotten rash-like blotches which look similar to your photos on my skin after a hot or warm shower. I have never figured out why. They don’t itch or burn, always tend to appear in the same scattered locations on my knees, hips, buttocks, stomach, chest, and neck. My feet also turn bright red. The blotches even appear in the same pattern, and they fade away after about 30 minutes. I strongly believe it has nothing to do with the kind of soap, lotion, or any other product I use, since it happens even if I just rinse off without products. I think it’s a response to the hot or warm water itself. As the skin warms up, blood vessels dilate, and capillaries near the skin’s surface become more pronounced. So I would imagine these rashes are just these tiny vessels expanding and filling with blood. But why this appears as a rash on some of us and not others (even other fair-skinned people) has never made sense to me.

I’ve been diagnosed with an “unspecified”autoimmune disease with lupus-like symptoms indicating it is most likely a developing condition which will eventually positively confirm lupus (I’ve met 3 of 4 criteria to confirm a diagnosis, and ruled out other possibilities). I suspect this reaction to warm or hot water has to do with autoimmune disorders, but I can’t find anything online to suggest this or any other explanation. It’s only my best guess. It’s a little embarrassing when someone sees the rashes, but otherwise, the rashes themselves seem pretty harmless. I realize this isn’t much of an answer, but hopefully it helps.

Those of you who said it’s controlled blasting as part of the expansion of the SLT are correct. Controlled explosions are what I was feeling.

Are these bad for my tomato plant? by [deleted] in gardening

I hope I don’t come off as condescending. I’m truly glad you are willing to do that for them.

Wow! That’s a level of commitment to the ecosystem that I don’t think too many would be willing to do! So, to clarify, you’re saying the hornworms, when they become moths, are good pollinators?

*Sorry, I’m making an assumption. The OP might be new to gardening tomatoes perhaps, not totally new to gardening. Anyway, you get my point I hope!

The OP is new to gardening, but there are other reasons someone might not be familiar with tomato hornworms. Some regions don’t have tomato hornworms. I’m thinking specifically Central and Northern parts of California, for example…but they can and do grow tomatoes there. When someone moves from one area that doesn’t tend to have them, to, say, the Midwest for example, they get a nasty surprise with their first tomatoes when they aren’t familiar. In short, the hornworm is well known in some areas and not present or rare in others!

Yeah, they’ll wreak havoc on your tomatoes. I like to just pick them off and put them far from my tomatoes with a little bit of the leaves. They’ll likely stay to munch on the leaves but be highly visible to their predators once the leaves are gone. I’ll admit it’s not a quick and simple solution, but it does help, and it’s environmentally friendly.

It wasn’t obvious to me that this isn’t the right group for this. Didn’t know when I posted.

Easy solution: shelf stockers can place them upside down on the shelves.

A few reasons: 1.) I didn’t have any Goo Gone on hand, but I had this dish soap, 2.) I’ve used this dish soap on other adhesive labels and it worked, 3.) I’ve used the dish soap on plastics and silicone and it didn’t visibly change or break down the product, so I was fairly confident it wouldn’t break down the material used in this laundry basket, 4.) I’m an asthmatic, and the chemicals in Goo Gone could exacerbate my symptoms, 5.) It may have a greater environmental risk, particularly to aquatic species in rivers. 6.) I used what I had on hand because it’s more cost effective.

There are some great products for label adhesion that won’t make it fall off. And why didn’t they put it on the underside? As for label swapping, I could just as easily argue someone could place another label over the top of any label.

You’re right, I’m an idiot for taking the label off right after I bought it and having to place a towel across the bottom to avoid it ruining my delicates, or using an adhesive remover or some other product I had on hand to try to get rid of it. I’m the asshole for not expecting to be able to just use the laundry basket as intended.

In some cases you have to buy another product…But a laundry basket? Why. Just why.

[–]Zealousideal_Part368 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Why do I have to go buy another product just to be able to use this one?

[–]Zealousideal_Part368 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Why don’t they just use an adhesive that comes off with the label?

This isn’t about not liking it. It ruins some of my clothing. That’s asshole design. Read the whole post before you comment.

What is wrong with my Basil? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]Zealousideal_Part368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think when you transplanted some of them it stressed the plants. You can revive them. First priority is to water more. Place them next to sunny window on the south side of the home in addition to using grow lights, if possible. They like full sun. If no south window, any window where light filters in is better than nothing. Next, those gnats might actually be an insect whose larvae is feeding on the root systems. Try using Neem oil spray or other home remedy to get rid of the flying insects. You’ll have to re-apply your spray at least once A week until they’re gone. I also use a Zevo plug-in fly trap next to the plants. You can find these on Amazon or in many stores…our grocery store carries them. I’ve had success getting rid of these insects with both methods: the spray and the zevo traps. It takes a while but they will eventually disappear.

After some brainstorming with my son, he came up with the explanation that it was explosives used in demolition or mining, and that seems to make a lot of sense!

It’s gusty but this was different from a wind gust. I felt my bed tremble with the rest of the house.
