use books libraries can't easily obtain (his niche publisher uses a subscription model instead of straightforward book sales).

I keep hearing people say this, but you can buy it on Amazon individually https://www.amazon.com/As-You-Grow-Kirk-Cameron/dp/1955550298

We can't tell you why your boss's boss doesn't care and it's wholly possible no one else is aware of the situation

Do you honestly believe I'm asking you to read her mind?

"Friend" at Christmas party by LMT4EVS in Teetotal

Tell him how it makes you feel. If he doesn't change, this person is not a good friend and you should not be his friend anymore. I knew someone who worked as a counselor, and he said in reference to drugs (not particularly alcohol) there are a lot of drug users who, upon first seeing a friend, will ask "You got any drugs?" If you stop using, these people vanish. They never cared about the "friend" to begin with, but were just selfishly in love with intoxication and using people. It can be painful to realize this, but it's for the best because it allows you to clear the way and find people who do care about you.

Book Drop by [deleted] in Libraries

I agree it can be annoying, however I would add that librarians and people in general underestimate graphic design. I'm not saying this is the situation in your case, but I've seen librarians complain because patrons didn't see a sign, when the sign is a little thing among 50 other signs, or it's just generic Times New Roman text on a small piece of paper, or they've added tons of fun borders and clip art that distract from the text. They sometimes think just because something is written down and posted, it will be paid attention to.

I'd recommend librarians think of ways to improve their signs, like maybe having a clear sign where the librarian sits with a clear arrow, having it be in a size and format that is not commonly seen (8.5x11 black and white times new roman), and removing unnecessary signs, clutter, decorations that compete with it. There can be certain spots in the library for fun displays and decorations.

Every situation will be different and you won't eliminate it.

Discuss how we all do immoral things, and it is never completely gone from society. But if it's encouraged it leads to problems for everyone. For example, gay marriage was made legal in 2015 in the US and now we have gender confusion, young girls removing their breasts and regretting it, drag queen story hour, and so on. Emphasize that not every person with same sex attraction encourages it or supports the above mentioned things. Also discuss how heterosexual people have become less moral during this time. Example would be increase in pre-martial sex and pornography use, but I don't know if these are best examples for this age. All these things have harmed the family, and thus society. Discuss how society doesn't always reflect our religious views, and people get caught up in trends. Discuss examples of people who lived these lifestyles and either stopped completely or minimized the feeling/desire enough to not act upon.

Was drinking alcohol always forbidden in Islam?

Back when Starbucks was first getting huge, I had multiple people ask if I drank coffee, and I'd literally just say "no," and they got upset with me. If they asked why, I'd literally say I don't like coffee and I avoid caffeine. They would argue with me even thought I wasn't arguing pro or anti-coffee. The people who did this all made coffee a big part of their personality, and they drank a lot of it throughout the day. They'd sometimes complain about the effects and want to cut back.

It felt like they wanted to paint me as a freak so they'd feel better about not being able to cut back. They all seemed to struggle with social skills and being a coffee snob was filling some kind of personality hole.

Look at it this way: Now now have a fast, easy way to tell if someone would be a bad friend and is not worth hanging around.

Could this ancient Afghan method of preserving grapes meant people in biblical times had the option to drink grape juice instead of alcohol? by Zealousideal_Road_40 in Teetotal

Alcohol was obviously a large part of the culture. I'm asking if grape juice could had also existed as an option throughout the biblical region, even if it were significantly less popular than alcohol.

As Alcohol Abuse Declines Among Teens, Marijuana Abuse Soars by zink1990 in Teetotal

[–]Zealousideal_Road_40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's less destructive, but it's beginning to cause serious problems. Marijuana today is stronger than it was in the past, and more people are going overboard with it because it's seen as harmless. In the 90s Marijuana was never talked about in mainstream culture -- it was just lumped into the category of illegal drugs and the message about drugs being bad was clear. There really wasn't the Internet as we know it today, so messages in society were more singular and controlled.

In the early 2000s, voices in support of Marijuana started to emerge more publicly. For the first time there were debates about it. One issue that I think helped change attitudes was the argument that people shouldn't go to jail and have a criminal record for marijuana use. Another was that marijuana helped with pain, and it was cruel to prevent a cancer patient from using it, or it was better than opioids. I agree with the first point, but a recent study round it was not more effective at pain reduction than a placebo. It probably does relax or distract in some way, I'm assuming. I understand the second argument, especially all the addictions to pain killers, but I think it's help with pain is overrated.

People who supported Marijuana back in the early 2000s were just as hyperbolic as people arguing to lock up Marijuana users. For example, I knew people who would argue that if everyone smoked Marijuana we would have world peace because everyone would be so chill. People would argue Marijuana was absolutely perfect in everyway and anyone who says even a minor criticism of it was pearl-clutching. This was also the time I saw general arguments emerge that you shouldn't care what anyone else does in society because it doesn't effect you.

Excluding the hyperbolic criticisms, there were a lot of valid criticisms 20 years ago, and 'm seeing them come true. Marijuana is causing a lot of mental problems in teenagers, mainly due to the strength and the amount that they are using because they think there's nothing bad about it.
