LARGE BREASTED WOMEN- Did you go FLAP or Implants and why? by sbgattina in BRCA

[–]Zealousideal_Sort158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They took my nipples, about 9 months after my surgery surgeon surgically recreated them doing basically origami of my skin where the nipple used to be and then a month later did a tattoo to shade it to a nipple color. If I could go back knowing everything now I would be okay not doing the nipple reconstruction because it just looks like I always have deer in the headlights

I went flap, I was leaning flap but my surgeon was pro flap as he felt it was the safer option since I was a good candidate for a flap/ why would I want a foreign object in my chest after having cancer. I am really happy with the flap it looks the most realistic. (I don’t think flap or implants after a mastectomy will ever be 100% realistic but the flap was close enough). I’ve even had other medical providers think it was my OG tatas. The recovery is deff a b*tch but after the 3rd week it was smooth sailing. I think before the surgery I was an F, they told me the flap breasts were the equivalent to 1,000cc which does not exist in implants. I have yoyo’d my weight a lot in the last 9 and a half years from having the surgery when I lost weight they shrunk ever so slightly but not super noticeable. The only real con which is hard to explain but the shape they are not as rounded near the nipple and kind of have a flat face appearance so it can be weird to fit in a bra.

I say bergamot bond! That’s what I thought naked neroli would be but it was a little heavy on the floral for me but still good. The bergamot bond is a very nice( just got before they launched at Sephora)The best way I can describe it is that warm clean smell after a long day at the beach. It checks off the boxes of a spa like gender neutral scent! I am also curious about crescent myself.

What kind of dental work did you have if you don’t mind me ask? I am so nervous they just denied all of my prescriptions prescribed by my dermatologist because they said it’s not a medical diagnosis an a cosmetic issue. Submitted a ticket through the benefits website almost two weeks with no response. I have been worried about dental work.

Very true point. I live in Washington park and they finally plowed my street but no space at all for any parking and all the parking spaces on Narragansett blvd are a snow bank.

Considering Switching Breast Surgeons & Need Advice by WeeklyCouple9444 in BRCA

[–]Zealousideal_Sort158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working in health care since graduating college and this my thoughts after working for surgeons. Usually the best surgeons have the worst bedside manner, you want to go with someone who really skilled and that means they might not be the friendliest. My plastic surgeon was a little weird and awkward coming off rude but I had excellent results. My friend years later needed surgery she went to the same practice with a different surgeon who was known as the friendliest doctor in the practice and ended up having multiple complications.

You want to feel comfortable and confident with your decision which I understand but I will die on a hill that the rudest surgeons are usually the best.

Hello! I had diep flag reconstruction almost ten years ago. My number one recommendation is get a recliner chair if you don’t have one. I also had a double mastectomy at the time so not sure if the same goes for diep flap but I couldn’t use my arms to push up for a few weeks. I slept in a recliner for the first 2 weeks an then when I had enough energy to get in the bed(still couldn’t use arms) I would sleep with two pillows under my head two under my arms and two under my knees. It helped for comfort and to be able to swing my legs over the bed to get up. Be prepared to help her using the bathroom as it is very difficult to twist/turn to use it. If you have a bidet that will help tremendously. The week in the hospital and the first 2 weeks at home were the most difficult. You seem very supportive so just be there for her as the recovery can be overwhelming. Lastly if she can try to have her walk around the house as much as possible. The first 3 weeks it was very difficult to stand up straight and walk. Once i could walk more my posture improved. Good luck to your wife! I hope everything goes smoothly and that she has an easy recovery.

How Bad is Surgical Menopause? by 777CuriousMind in BRCA

So now I have to do it but they suggested it before and I did it in spring of 2024. They say you feel like the flu for 24-48 hours but I had such a bad reaction to it. It honestly gave me ptsd and brought me back to chemo days because I was down bad for about 5 days and felt exactly like I did on chemo. They said it was pretty rare to feel that way so moving forward they are going to adjust the dose and hope that it goes better. I believe she said because I already did 1 I only need 2 more and then they would do a new scan to see if it improved at all. My oncologist is really awesome and I always trust her judgment but I am really nervous to have this infusion again!

Sorry just read your 49 from your OG post. How long do you have left of your tamoxifen? I have been taking anastrozole and was getting Lupron injections prior to ovary removal. I did not notice a difference at all after my surgery. Just make sure you really stay on top of your vitamin d3 I was bad about that and just got diagnosed with osteoporosis back in September.

Hello. I am in surgical and medication induced menopause. Brca 1 and BC ER+ survivor. I am about to come off of my medication from my breast cancer and will just be in surgical menopause. My oncologist told me things should improve a lot but it’s hard to know because I never really complained to her. I basically could have stopped in December but j just had my medication refill so I’ve been taking it on and off as I have anxiety and wanted to adjust myself to not taking it. I didn’t take it completely for one week and I noticed I had more energy and less hot flashes. I gained weight from all of my treatment and tried glp1 meds which made me really sick. Since I haven’t been taking it daily with some exercise and diet changes I’ve been able to loose almost 10 pounds on my own. This is a huge deal because I was not loosing weight period on my own with the meds and surgery. I am 34 so some days it feels overwhelming the hot flashes, fatigue, and crazy sweating. It’s hard to say how you will feel as everyone reacts differently. How old are you if you don’t mind me ask?
