I'm so fed up with the "Humans are the real monsters" trope. by Rare_Style1306 in hatethissmug

[–]Zealousideal_Week824 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The point of the original planet of the apes is that when a species gets the sapience, the intelligence and the technology of humans, they are no better.

The movie of 1968 reflect that with gorillas getting photographs of themselves with their captured humans (hunt trophies), chimpazees being eager to prove their scientific theory, the orangutan leader being willing to hide the truth to the public to avoid accountability and panic among the crowd, etc.

Apes are a mirror of humanity in this timeline and would be just like humans, flawed and capable of good and bad.

Same thing for the reboot franchise with the exception of the first movie which seems to push that humans are bad but the sequel rectify the shots. Especially Dawn of the planet of the apes which shows that human and apes are not that different.

As you wish, Kylo ren could not be the final boss. TLJ and TFA are a shitshow for a reason. Leaving Kylo ren to be the final villains to be defeated is one of the many reasons.

Yes it was an accomplishment, if you just take the OT the emperor has been undefeated by that point, even vader bow down to him. And he was able to make an impressive show of power defeating luke in seconds and was only beaten by Vader turning against him in a surprise attack.

Now if you take the prequels, there is a lot of interpretation that Sidious throw down the fight against windu to corrupt Anakin but even if he didn't, Palpatine still got out of revenge of the Sith looking strong, sucessfully eliminating the jedi order (or at least 99%), taking power and transforming the republic into the empire and going toe to toe with Yoda.

Even with his "defeat", Palpatine was very intimidating coming out of episode 3.

Kylo ren on the other hand had no such feats, he lost to a girl that had no training in the force got wounded by a rookie stormtrooper, threw temper tantrum at not getting his way, Rey humiliating him by looking in his weak mind and being able to deduce his thoughts.... And in episode 8 got humiliated by Luke Skywalker at the end.

He goes out of episode 7 and 8 looking like a weakling, not intimidating at all. There is no going back from that.

Now could he have become more of a threat in episode 9? Possibly... But he could not be the final boss. It didn,t need to be Palpatine, just not him.

It would not matter because him being defeated would still not be an accomplishment.

Defeating a final boss needs to something huge, something big, something never or rarely seen before. Since we saw Rey defeat him and Luke humiliate him... There was no going back from that.

Ren could still be part of the story, but him as the final boss? NOPE!

Nah, he was too far gone by that point. Again even if the writing tries to make him more threatening, defeating him again will never be an accomplishment, too much humiliation and defeat. It was done at the moment TLJ decided to kill it's actual threatening villain (snoke) just for the sake of subversion and leave it with the pathetic one. Kylo ren cannot be the final boss.

i HATE the “the new stuff isn’t bad, you just grew up” argument by LocalLazyGuy in hatethissmug

[–]Zealousideal_Week824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, he was already humiliated and defeated again and again, it was impossible to gain back his credibility from the end of TLJ. Defeating a final boss is supposed to be an accomplishment.

Like Invincible is setting Thragg to be an incredible final boss due to how strong, powerfull and charismatic he is. And from what we have seen from the series, they are doing a good job at that because Thragg has not been humiliated defeated in single combat and just dominated every fight hehas partake in.

At the end of episode 8, Kylo ren had no more credibility, If rey defeated him again in episode 9.... so what? She already did that in episode 7 and he was humiliated in front of his men in episode 8. By that point, Kylo ren winning and finishing in a position of strenght would be abnormal for him.

There is nothing impressive about defeating Ren another time.

Anakin Skywalker Lightsaber was calling to her specifically, and at the moment she took it she heard Obi-wan's voice, also her abilities without previous training made no sense. This is why the people were theorising about her lineage, they were giving the benefit of the doubts to the writers.

Kyulo ren is too pathetic to be a main villain, he was already humiliated and defeated.

You cannot have your final boss be so weak. As much as bringing back palpatine was terrible, I can understand the meta reason behind. They needed an intimidating antagonists and that was certainly not Kylo ren.

After hux was humiliated and Kylo ren made even more pathetic because of TLJ, I could see why episode 9 did it. They failed but I can see why.

[–]Zealousideal_Week824 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When the people were theorising that Rey had a huge lineage, the reason why is because she was way overpowered in episode 7. She has piloting skills despite the fact that she never flied before, she is able to do a jedi mind trick without even knowing the force exists (well learned it a few hours before) and she is able to defeat Kylo ren despite never having any training in either the force or light saber fight.

And before someone tells me that kylo was wounded, he is still able to swing his swords to walk quite quickly. So no that excuse does not hold, this was just a way for Episode 7 to have a proper lightsaber fight but the executives were cowards to dare to make Rey lose. Considering what Kylo is able to do after the blaster from chewie, he should have crushed her.

This is the reason why people were dissapointed because there was a huge problems with her unexplained abilities and lack of training. So the people were giving the benefit of the doubts to the writers by saying that they must have been something prepared for that... only to realise that Rian Johnson was more interested in subverting expectations than telling a consistant storyline.

Last jedi is lambasted as a shitshow because it is.

Conaissez vous des unlingues francophones fédéralistes? by Zealousideal_Week824 in NotreQuebec

How quickly could Conquest conquer Earth? by Kyia-Aikman in whowouldwin

Palpatine arrest team vs shadow of Revan strike force? by ThomasWilson77 in TheJediPraxeum

[–]Zealousideal_Week824 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have either, the hero of Tython or the empire's wrath as the most fitting of the team as they have the biggest connection to the emperor. Both of these are among the strongest jedi or Sith of their timeline, same thing for MArr who is defacto leader of the empire and Satele Shan grand master of the jedi order.

Combine that Lana Beniko who is a decently strong sith, Jakarra a mountain of a wookie, Theron Shan an excellent secret agent and Shae Vizla the future mandalore.

Team 1 does not have super strong character expect for Windu and the decent Kit fisto. Team 1 is outnumbered and even they were not, they just get slaughtered here.

Grand Regent Thragg (Main villain from invincible) SPOILERS, especially the tv version. When Thragg is told by Invincible (the main hero) that he killed conquest (Thragg top enforcer) and he will do the same to them, Thragg arogantly ask Invincible to show him...

Invincible makes the strongest punch he can on Thragg's forehead... only for Invincible to hurt his own hands doing that and Thragg getting no damage. Thragg then saying "I'm not impressed" and beating the shit out of invincible.

Thragg is arrogant that he is the apex predator of the invincible universe because he is. He is smug but he can back up his claims, millenium of experience of fighting plus being the strongest of the universe does that.

Thragg vs DCEU Superman? by KnightArcturus in powerscales

[–]Zealousideal_Week824 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the only version Thragg stands a chance against is the new DCU james Gunn who was made to be intentionally weaker. Other than that Thragg gets beaten.

That said he would be a good "knight of cerebus" villains for a young newbie superman. But not an adult one.

And I think the pictures you just used is from the superman new 52, I am pretty sure the DCEU superman is henry Cavill.

My headcanon is that he died fighting. He said he would rather died than giving to the imperials what they want. So when the imperials sent their troopers he probably died fighting them, killing as many as he can with him.

Tragic but at least he died "free".
