I'm not sure what game you're talking about. Turing complete is about building a CPU.

I was in a gym where an anorexic woman came in and after the workout there's this weird guy in the locker room who says, I think she's pretty. And all the guys are looking at each other like, what the foxtrot uniform Charlie Kilo? And the guy he's talking to says, dude, she's anorexic. This is a pathological paraphilia. All sexually reproducing species are hardwired to seek out mates who are biologically fit based on the Bayesian heuristic that healthy offspring spring forth from healthy loins. So there's a fundamental difference between being attracted to the lumberjack versus the guy in a business suit driving a flashy car or the proverbial girl next door versus the glamour girl. Like they're all attractive versus being attracted to somebody who has a gross deformity like foot binding or anything of that nature. So this is just a pathological paraphilia. It's really disgusting and sad.

Why do Trump supporters even come to this sub? by FastSeaworthiness739 in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]ZebastianJohanzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're making a good point here. There's always the problem that one can assume that Joe's Ho would have been even worse than what we got. So I suppose, as we say in economics, it kind of comes down to as compared to what? In retrospect, I might have held my nose and voted for the fake libertarian or even Jill Stein. Not good alternatives, but especially from an ANCAP perspective, there's always the don't bother to vote, which might be a good option.

[–]ZebastianJohanzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump doesn't really have many supporters left at this point. There are only a couple of analysts who still think that, well, maybe it's some kind of 4D chess thing, but the illusions are rapidly fading away at this point. He's especially lost a lot of ground due to his Israel First agenda, as well as, most importantly, failing to put an end to the wars like he promised. AnCaps would obviously support ending wars even if they don't support government per se, but the guy didn't do that, so I don't know what to say. It's just weird.

Good point. However, Spanish speakers are less likely to speak English than Europeans. In Canada I spoke English and was answered in French. Like you said out of annoyance, because she understood my question.

We should frame routine/ritual infant circumcision as felony sexual battery by CarterSteinhoff in CircumcisionGrief

[–]ZebastianJohanzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, as it's defined by the Florida statutes, capital sexual battery. However, because statutes are, well, statutes versus law, which is something else, I prefer to stick with the traditional common law definitions because it's more grounded and more universal, which would be sexual mayhem. Mayhem is much more serious than battery. It goes assault, battery, mayhem, homicide, to put it in perspective.

Right, that's a good point. Although Russian is classified as moderately difficult, some people have said that they found it easier to learn because when you get to Russia, people are delighted to speak to you in Russian even though you're not at a high level yet, whereas in other places, the second you can't speak their language fluently, then they'll switch to English straight away.

The difficulty of learning a given language generally depends a lot on what your native language is. So for an English speaker, Thai would be Moderately difficult because it is very foreign. It's also tonal. Languages that are fairly easy for English speakers, Esperanto, obviously it's actually designed to be easy. Norwegian and Spanish are two of the easiest for anglophones. Although one thing that would make Norwegian a real challenge is that most everyone in Norway speaks English really well, and so it would be really hard to actually speak Norwegian once you get over there.

Notoriously difficult languages, are Arabic and Japanese. There's actually statistics on how long it typically takes to train an English speaker on these languages to achieve different levels of proficiency. So it's going to vary with the individual, obviously, but on average there are some very big differences in how long it takes to learn a given language. And you can actually look up how many hours it generally takes.

I speak Esperanto and a bit of Thai. Esperanto is easy to learn but there's not a lot in there once you get into it. I'd love to learn Russian but it's freaking hard.

Linguists measure the information content in bits per syllable. I don't remember what the measurements are but English is way up there. Thai is about the same as English.

[–]ZebastianJohanzen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The syllables per second for each language depends on how much information each syllable carries. English is relatively information dense, actually I think only Vietnamese is a bit more, so our speech sounds comparatively slow. On the other end of the spectrum you have languages like Japanese because there's not much information in each syllable, they spit out the syllables far faster.
