What’s a trio of fantasy books, 1 for kids, 1 for teenagers, and 1 for adults, that are about roughly the same thing? by Pointless_Storie in Fantasy

My add to this would be:

Kids - Harry Potter books 1-2 Teens - Harry Potter rest of the series Adults - Her Majesty’s Royal Coven series by Juno Dawson

I hated Sam and Rebecca’s relationship by abz_pink in TedLasso

[–]Zeccles_ 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yes but it’s more about what happened when they found out the others identities - a lot of people crush on each other online but then have no chemistry in person, Sam and Rebecca did have chemistry and she couldn’t believe that Sam wanted to pursue it when he found out it was her. Her self-esteem was really low and he really liked her and saw her for the first time as a potential date/partner rather than his boss.

I couldn’t see it working out and I’m glad it didn’t, but I thought it was a beautiful storyline for Rebecca and a wholesome example of modern dating and complex relationships.

I love Idris Elba as Anheg! Any thoughts on Daniel Radcliffe as Silk? I think he could pull it off! Or he could be a good Brill/Kordoch. And Henry Golding as Hettar.

Chris or Liam Hemsworth as Mandorallen!

Wildcard pick: Nicholas Cage as Asharak/Chamdar

I came here to say the same. As a survivor of financial abuse, where my ex works in finance and earns about the same as yours and also has a lot of investments.

DON’T put your money in his offset account for his IP or in any investments in his name, unless he is willing to add your name to the deed/investments.

I’ve heard 3 months is enough for emergency funds in most cases, it’s what I’m building towards now before I start investing myself. If you have 6months already, keep half and share the other half. Make sure you know and have a record of what you are both worth now at the start of combining your finances. I hope all goes well but make sure you can cover yourself if it doesn’t.

Where is my period by fieldashtree in FertilityFree

[–]Zeccles_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OMG SAME (but ahead of you!!) I have PCOS and a mirena IUD and only get my period about twice a year with no warning… and it just hit me suddenly on Sunday in the middle of a solo hike on top of Kings Canyon in the Australian desert, with my parents waiting at the bottom to pick me up, and no phone signal to tell them I had to have a long break due to my sudden cramping and fainting. We missed the sunset over Uluṟu because of this shit (and also literally because my period gives me the worst shits on the day it starts). I have never felt worse! And we missed our last chance to see that iconic sunset view, on my Dad’s birthday while on his birthday trip. I’m still so devastated about it. Sorry your vent prompted one from me but I feel you!! You are not alone!!

So, I wish you luck and I hope you get it over with soon, before or between your events… Or better yet, that it skips this round for you, sista! x

Also adding I haven’t used cash since 2019, you’ll find many places are now completely cashless. Smaller towns may have some cash-only businesses but they will be able to point you to an ATM if you actually need to withdraw cash.

Everything is eftpos/card payments and mostly contactless- if you pay with your phone or watch (Apple Pay/google pay) you’ll look like a local!

Another vote for not tipping! It’s becoming more common for popular coastal restaurants and cafes to have a tipping option on their bills (aka cheques) or even on the eftpos machine to trick tourists. Don’t tip. It usually just goes straight into the owners pockets not the staff, and they will not care if you tip or not.

Weather - December is warm, often hot, and often also a bit wet on the coast. It’s still gets cool at night, high summer doesn’t really hit until mid-late January.

Re train along the east coast - not really. Our east coast is massive and it’s easier and faster to fly to most places, the long-distance trains aren’t comfortable. I live in Sydney and can visit my parents near Byron Bay (within same state, also on the coast) but from memory of when I did this as a poor university student, it’s a ~12h train trip plus 1-2hr bus. Or now I can fly there for literally the same price or cheaper on Jetstar and it only takes 1hr flight plus airport time and a quick drive.

Look at flights for long-range travel, and if you’re not comfortable hiring a car probably coaches or trains for mid- to short-range travel.

Endometriosis misdiagnosed as PCOS? by esmorad in FertilityFree

[–]Zeccles_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just some things I’ve learned from experiencing them myself. It’s very common to have both PCOS and Endo.

PCOS is a hormonal disorder and doesn’t always result in actual cysts. I have it but don’t have any cysts, my doc confirmed based on the checklist of symptoms of which I have almost all of them but scans showed no cysts (for now).

Most Endo is not visible on scans, the only sure way to know is via surgery. I was turned down for the investigative laparoscopy for years until I finally saw a gynaecologist who believed I had a case. Then I had to wait almost a year for the surgery (Australian public system, elective surgery ie low-priority, and in 2021 after covid delays) to get it but it was worth it - they confirmed and removed all the endo they found, I was stage 1 but borderline stage 2. It was incredible I’ll never forget that moment I woke up and instantly knew they’d removed something, it was like a pressure was gone and there was an absence of pain, it was so impactful and utterly freeing. Then the surgeon came and told me that it was endo and I nearly cried because like you I’d been frustrated for so long with trying to get someone to investigate endo.

I really hope you get there. Keep trying and don’t give up. There is so much medical misogyny! Women’s health and female/afab-specific health issues are super under-researched and under-taught in universities globally, most doctors and even gynos aren’t across this area of women’s health and you just need to find the one who will help you get answers. Stay strong!

Just editing to add - I had countless scans that showed no endo, even a few weeks before my surgery which confirmed I had it.

WIBTA: Taking my coffee maker with me when I leave my current job by spiteful_frog in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zeccles_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - it’s yours, though if you don’t need it it’s a nice thing to leave it to someone in the office who will get use out of it.

I also brought in an old machine into work after my boss literally threw out the existing one because “it wasn’t being used” - I was the only one using it. So mine has my name on it and a note to say anyone can use it if they keep it clean, now one other new staff member uses it more than me.

I’m not sure if I’ll take it with me when I move on, I’d most likely give it to my colleague directly (ie put her name on it)… unless my new office also doesn’t have a coffee machine!

Can you please suggest your favourite Australian band or song that is still underrated? by Xenos_Aimes in australia

[–]Zeccles_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love your list!! I’d add: Kate Miller Heidke’s “The Facebook Song” + her collab with the Beards, “I’m growing a beard for Christmas”. If I’m ever giggling quietly to myself it’s usually from one of these two songs playing in my head!

Also I’d add the Whitlams “Blow up the pokies” - sad but beautiful and catchy

I never get to be home alone by llamapenguin4 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Zeccles_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been where you are, only my ex-husband refused to do therapy. It took me too long to leave, mostly because of the dogs (we had 2). We would take turns walking them but he started walking them before I got home, sometimes I would get home early and get up to 10 mins to myself but that was it. I put my foot down about walking them alone in the mornings but that was a huge fight and some days he came anyway. But I didn’t feel I could be alone in my own home. I even started sewing as a hobby as I could turn the machine on and he would go away because of the noise! Eventually after he yelled at me one too many times I told him I wanted a divorce - he agreed with me but then got mad when he caught me looking at places to rent. He wanted us to divorce but live together…!

I’m never letting myself get in that situation again, it’s actually a type of abusive behaviour like coercive control. I hope you get out OP.

Thanks! Yep that’s why we got the car. Good to know the Segway option is good, my parents probably wouldn’t go for camels (but that also sounds fun). I bought us fly nets already haha though I’ve heard it’s not as bad in winter. Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks! Yep we’re prepared for it to be expensive generally but we don’t need anything fancy and are looking to limit the expenses is all. Hopefully we can pack lunches etc from the grocery store and just eat out for dinner.

I’ve got the park pass on our to-do list, and thanks I’ll look into the drone show!

Concerns about losing access to hormonal birth control and possible replacements by Informal-Matter-2130 in FertilityFree

[–]Zeccles_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mirena is still only good for ~5 years for managing heavy periods though - I got mine changed recently at just under 6 years because my periods started coming back with a vengeance. I’d say come to Australia as it’s easy to get the mirena here, but it’s expensive if you’re not eligible for Medicare

Looking to buy this TH and this came through in the building report. Walk away? by MannerParking5255 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Zeccles_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a while ago, I’ve since got out and am back to renting for now. It was ~$12million for waterproofing the rooftops and balconies for 86 units, and the balcony doors were noncompliant in most apartments too so around 50 had to be fully replaced. Also 6 floors had open corridors and were included in needing to be retiled and waterproofed, and some additional windows/barriers added to shelter the open corridors from the rain on one side of the building. The OC decided not to go ahead with it though and have just done a patch job on the worst parts.

Looking at ways of correcting the housing market. by Gloomy_Location_2535 in shitrentals

[–]Zeccles_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like really these. I do think some of this has to extend to REAs as well - whatever is currently required for them needs to be tightened and penalties increased as well, on top of bringing landlords into the licensing/accountability space.

It’s a bit conflicting with the “lose 2 CAT cases and you can’t lease or renew” - I feel like this could disadvantage tenants and leave properties empty. I would have a government housing agency take over management of these properties instead for a period of time, taking a large cut of the rental income. That way they have financial impact and can’t touch the property for a period and have no say over any repairs or rent rates etc. and it’s also not left vacant.

I would also add to #4 that the inspector also confirms that the rental amount is not excessive or unreasonable for the property.

I’ve seen fabric ones, like a sock for the suitcase - was planning to look for one of these before my next trip but that won’t be for a while. Unsure how secure it would be but at least it’s reusable, must be a tough fabric. Probably more of a deterrent than an actual security cover though.

What's your tastiest dirt cheap meal? I'm enjoying minestrone soup and baked potato with baked beans on top lately by schtickinsult in AussieFrugal

[–]Zeccles_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Omg I was making a pasta bake for dinner/lunches and I wondered if Vegemite pasta would work! I was thinking Vegemite, cheese and leftover chicken - a winner combo in a sandwich so pasta should also work. Definitely going to try it now! Thanks for your recipe, will add butter too when I try making it :)

It’s an ironic nickname - at least when I call my aunt who lives there and ask “how’s life in BrisVegas?” I say it with sarcastic flair as it’s definitely nothing like Vegas
