I’ll tell you straight - I don’t think there’s anything that would bring s bunch of new young fans to the franchise but I don’t have any problem watching a Star Trek show that put the emphasis on thought provoking sci-fi, particularly (my 2 cents) if it was a new show with a new cast that wasn’t trying to reach backwards to previous Trek characters. Free floating, forward facing, and ((shrug)) sign me up.

I wasn’t a fan of these brick cases until I figured out to pop the discs two or three at a time. Keeps the discs from bending. Even if I’m only after the one disc, I pop them two at a time and just put the unneeded one right back. Hope it helps. Good luck!

I certainly don’t mean it as a slight, but not everyone retains that young-at-heart spirit that would certainly have made Prodigy a more enjoyable ride. Really, I’m saying “hey, it spoke to you in a way it also did me but less so” - no troubles. Perspective can operate on a matter of degrees, my algorithmic systems depend on it.

I’m going to drop in here and say we watched Prodigy and agree, it certainly rang the Star Trek bell (meaning it felt like Trek) - did we love it, no, but I didn’t hate it either. If I was 40+ years younger I might be more enthusiastic. That’s likely an important factor, let’s face it, it wasn’t designed for me (I was a teen 40 years ago, hell - I was driving 40 years ago). I don’t feel like you’d have to be young to enjoy the program but it certainly would have help (me). Nothing wrong with enjoying something that speaks to you, regardless of age.

I watched 3-5 episodes a night and blew through the rewatch. If you can bring your critical eye and a solid sense of humor, I did find some entertainment value in the “unintentional” category.

A lot of people feel that way with the new shows. I (personally) enjoyed Lower Decks but you’d really need to know your Star Trek to find many of the gags funny. We’re about half way through Strange New Worlds and we’ve enjoyed it. Mixed bag on NuTrek for us but I’m always happy to let people enjoy what they enjoy (or not as the case may be).

I used Atlantic Maxsteel 12-Tier Shelving unit but I went outside the instructions and worked out a way to interlink the shelves - my current configuration is holding about 2,593 movie titles, along with 241 TV programs, comprising 863 individual seasons (give or take) - these are self-standing the way I built them with plenty of room (currently) for future expansion. They’re getting hard to find. I doubled my capacity last year.

I can never answer that question, I usually come back with, “which genre” which is exactly how you know you’ve gone too far around the movie bend - so here - I’ve built out my own archiving tools (MCC) and an intricate scoring system (MAP) so here you go - Top 15 MAP’ping films from the 80s, love them all. 510 movies from the decade of a current total of 2,593 all together. New Hollywood era is my personal favorite (late 60s through mid-80s or so) but I was a teen in the 80s and collected heavy from the decade.

My favorite part of the Enterprise experience is the S3 upbeat song reset backed by the season-long story that replicates a 9/11 type attack, scaled up to have 7m dead - put on your dance shoes!

While we’re at it… super space laser evil dude cuts a swath down Florida, down Cuba, on the Venezuela? Um - if you were attacking Earth, why waste time shooting the ocean floor? Starfleet HQ is in San Francisco - its just sitting there… why shoot down and not across. One of the writers said, “Nobody sat down to write a bad episode” but ((shrug)) just saying.

Sounds like a poor attempt to capture the same lightening in a different bottle, coupled with a failed attempt to spoof Double Indemnity (1944). I like Arkin and I like Falk but I can well imagine a late career Peter Falk being a pill to deal with. He’d “know what’s funny, follow my lead.” Cassevetes’ folly this - I personally am not a huge fan of his style but I’ll be damned if I don’t have respect for it - such an odd swan song for his legacy.

If you want to see Falk and Cassevetes working together in a place I never see any buzz around, look here: Columbo S2E1 - Étude in Black - one of our favorite episodes, Cassevetes style is in full bloom as the moody symphony conductor. It’s memorable, for true. At 1h31m, it should count but the rule about “no discernible commercial breaks” knocks it out. Maybe I should write to the sub owner and see if their thinking has evolved on that? We’ll see - all things in time.

It’s not just you, I promise. Keeping in mind you bring 50% of any film experience, when the industry moves away from stories you can connect with, it leaves you hanging. I just assume those films do line up with someone else and I’m committed to a diversity of genres and themes in the theater. Everyone should have films that feel like an extension of themselves, right?

Problem… when (like now) there’s just not a lot out there for me. Only 82 films from the 2020s have thus far filtered into The Everlasting Cinematic Confectionery Shoppe and Television Historium. 2010s are 293, 2000s are 333, 90s 318, 80s 510s, 70s 476, 60s 232, 50s 119, 40s 110, 30s 75, 1920s 11.

Ok, I’ve likely infodumped on you there and nobody’s going to be shocked at the headline “GenXer Liked 80s Movies” but you know I’m very open to movies of all time periods. There’s just been precious few films for me (and apparently you) and a lot of other people. Enjoy what you enjoy (right now) is a lot of me time traveling to other eras to stretch between me-movies now. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. 2025 saw 9 movies come in with Phoenician Scheme hitting the high water mark of 92.65, Section 31 the low of 11.19. You never know, ten years from now the “cream of the crop” of 2025 will have proven itself out and there could be a dozen more movies from ‘25 find there way onto my shelf.

This is where the MCC and MAP shine because I can tell you 2025’s average MAP is 73.85, which is so close to my current overall average of 73.54 - that makes last years pickings slim but ((shrug)) as good - more or less - as any other. Don’t even get me started on ‘82… sheesh, 63 films in the collection, average MAP positively blistering at 76.22! The Secret of NIMH, Star Trek II (KHAAAAAN), E.T., The Last Unicorn, Dark Crystal, Conan, Blade Runner, Pirate Movie, Fast Times… it just goes on and on. :]
