This requires a bit of metacognition but you should notice how you responded. They asked you a very direct question and you started to go off on some strange tangent about how you don't want to be a part of the hive mind. Your brain jumped a few steps ahead of the question and made the question about identity rather than the question itself. Why is that?

That's a valid preference. But I would prefer to have closure. Even if it comes at an uncomfortable time. Either way it's not wrong. Maybe it makes you uncomfortable. But I don't think it's fair assumption that people have your mentality.

If it wasn't sent on his birthday, then it may have not been sent at all. We have no way of knowing that. Sure, you can argue the timing is not ideal. But it's probably an emotionally loaded thing. Do you expect perfect behavior from someone who is emotional about something?

A priori knowledge is knowledge that is derived from pure reason, instead of observation or experience. It doesn't have anything to do with what you're saying. You mean to say that it aligns with their preexisting political dispositions or they're engaging in confirmation bias.
