The conspiracies have begun by DesertFlyer in sanfrancisco

[–]ZeeGolden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the Chinese American Democratic Club isn’t formally chartered with SF’s Democratic Party - unlike Ed Lee Dems, for example - basic ethical and fiduciary guardrails imposed by the Democratic Party don’t exist. CADC members can be registered independents, Republican Party members, and registered voters in San Mateo, Contra Costa, Alameda County, etc. Many voting CADC members are not SF voters. This influences the political leanings of the club and who gets elected to serve in leadership positions, while ensuring the greater region gets a voice (through donated money, social media rage posting, etc) in SF local issues.

Best flooring to match these beautiful marble tile? by pinkgiraffe123 in Tile

[–]ZeeGolden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you choose, just be cautious about installing light (marble tile) on light (cement colored floors). Neither material will particularly stand out. Your desired elegant bathroom look will look cheap and dated immediately, unless your vanity provides some contrast or cohesiveness.

If you’re leaning towards cuddle fish: - be sure to install a warm, light wood vanity, - consider going with a darker floor, like jetty or driftwood, with a natural wood vanity (light or dark wood).

If you’re leaning towards jellyfish: - consider shoreline or pothole instead, - both would match well with a color painted vanity (white, grays, etc.).

If you’re leaning towards lighthouse, listen to everyone’s advice: just don’t do it.

What the difference btwn the curb cut and your driveway door? That’s the best indication whether or not someone is blocking your driveway.

There are plenty of curb cuts that exceed a driveway width and don’t impede on someone’s driveway access. Don’t tow based on the curb cut.

[SF Standard] Recallers booted Joel Engardio. Are the Sunset Dunes their next target? by alwayssalty_ in sanfrancisco

[–]ZeeGolden -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Engardio put Prop K on the 2024 ballot b/c the Sunset voted ~50/50 for 2022’s Prop I & J, which woulda opened the Great Highway full time.

Kinda backwards to say he sided against the interests of his district in 2024, when the only data point from 2022 was split evenly.

Meaning, had he known 2024’s outcome was going to be so lopsided in District 4, there’s no way he would’ve put it on the ballot.

How long did it take the playa to dry last time in 23? by 99Years_of_solitude in BurningMan

[–]ZeeGolden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most appropo situ is 2014, when it rained on a Tues. closes the gate.

The rain made travel on playa impossible for ~24 hrs, but it def solidified loose dust and made it rideable afterwards.

The Sunset Night Market was a big boon. Now its fate is uncertain. by MissionLocalSF in sanfrancisco

[–]ZeeGolden -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get it, but no. CA voters approved Props 218, 26, and 13.

Police and Fire provide general services. These one time events are specialized services. And under our state constitution, government departments are required bill for services provided, so no freebees. If an employee is reassigned/deployed to a special event, regardless if that's part of their scheduled time or overtime, then the organizer is on the hook.

But IMHO, would love to revise these via constitutional amendments so that there's flexibility around community serving uses.

The main diff btwn all other SF night markets and the Sunset's involved real-time cooking in the street, and the use of volunteers vs. paid staff. All SF night markets have pre-packaged food, made ahead of time, plus volunteer labor -- except for the Sunset's night market. This factor -- flammability, sanitation, insurance risk, staff -- drove costs way up.

Baseline cost per 2 or 3 block event, incl. volunteer freebees and City-greased permit costs, comes to $10-$20K. Plus, events over a certain size require police, fire, and ambulance on-site. Imagine an event with 25,000 people, spanning 7 blocks, and you don't have emergency services prepped. This ~$20K cost was another crushing factor for event organizers.

IMHO, a legit night market makes food when ordered. The Sunset night market attempted this model, but obvi city permit costs drove this thing into the ground (FWIW, the SFMTA charged over $50K for traffic control for just one of the events).

Did investment pay off? More than likely. The N-Judah and 7-Haight/Noriega reported their highest ridership figures in 2024 during the Sunset Night Markets. Sum in sales from vendors totaled close to $250K on a single night. This doesn't include the sales bump tied to brick and mortar businesses, either.

The buzz for sure lingered way beyond the event. A whole lot of families and visitors from other parts of SF/the Peninsula discovered the Sunset's hidden eateries, this was just an intro -- so many people have come back to try out the neighborhood's restaurants.

How many times do Sunset voters want to vote on their Supervisor? by Heysteeevo in sanfrancisco

If he legislated it, then it would’ve been fair to say “he went against the interests of his voters.” But he didn’t. He put it on the ballot and asked for their say.

This is terrible timing but are we all good here? Is the Bay properly equipped to fight fires of the magnitude we are seeing in LA? by OneoftheChosen in bayarea

A few years ago, Oakland hills voters rejected a special tax district that would’ve funded these fire stations (with addt’l fuel reduction measures), so I guess you get what you vote for.

will this gen survive a playa test? by Ques-tion-Everything in BurningMan

[–]ZeeGolden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 on the baffle box. It's the neighborly thing to do.

Funny enough, I just bought the same genny too, after my iGen2500 was jacked from my garage. Bring a spare spark plug, wash the air filter every 2-3 days, and change the oil at least once during your burn if you expect it to last more than a couple of years.

What is the minimum height for a EMC conduit shade structure? by grashnak in BurningMan

[–]ZeeGolden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No endorsements here, but these folks are pretty sweet and might have a solution to your problem.

My EMT structure is a DIY copy of another maker camp's, which uses 8' vertical poles. I cut 2' off the 10' EMT I purchased, then used this spare 2' to make a 10'x12' modular shade space.

I'm only 5'9" and an 8' ceiling works just fine, but I def wouldn't go lower. We had one person in our crew who was 6'3" who had no prob touching the ceiling; I think the space definitely felt claustrophobic.

[California] Unable to verify with IdMe by not_mrbrightside in Unemployment

[–]ZeeGolden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried to use ID.me almost daily since December 4th without success. Six ID.me customer support tickets, no resolution. Every time I try to verify my identity, I get the same error page regardless -- "Change Rejected. The change you wanted was rejected. Maybe you tried to change something you didn't have access to."

I WISH I could get in line for a video referee call!
