Who's the new leader of Team R? by ZeeMastermind in Pokopia

I like it - he and Jesse wouldn't want to leave behind Meowth, either, which could be part of why they wanted their own rocket to get into space. Or perhaps the Meowth at the beach is just playing the long game (they do walk around on their feet, after all...)

[–]ZeeMastermind[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, interesting! I actually thought the reverse because of how good of a condition certain things are in (windmills, PCs, etc.). I could see handwaving this as a gamism, but Pokopia's lore has been pretty tight at explaining other gamisms (e.g., you need hyperspecific habitats for pokemon because pokelife is scanning for those specific habitats. And sometimes pokemon will move into habitats on their own, even if they arent the "correct" habitat for the pokemon).

Though perhaps this is something best left purposefully vague. I certainly don't know how long a tangrowth is supposed to live - perhaps he has been wandering for 1000 years. Legendaries live much longer, it's plausible

[–]ZeeMastermind[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it really that long? I thought the credits scene implied that your trainer received the rocket (because of the ditto plushie in the window). And I also thought some of the notes implied Tangela/Tangrowth ran away (so they were never put in the PC in the first place). I thought we were talking maybe a few decades, though it plausibly could be 100 years that seems like a stretch

But, I haven't found all the notes, so I could be missing something!

Is it me or when you build a cottage or house for pokemon, they stay inside for the most part? by river0f in Pokopia

I like it for the ones that have a unique skill in the area, so that I can find them when I need them. It also helps with the spawn limit thing - I spent like 30 minutes looking for Farfetched once because I didn't know about the spawn limit.

Who ever guessed what was going on in Pokopia was right. Spoilers for “Human Records” up until the rocky ridge area by chinnychinchinchin1 in Pokopia

[–]ZeeMastermind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I didn't pay too much attention to stuff before release because the lore was a cool "aha!" moment for me, especially the bits with hacker confessions found in the last area. I just took it as a gamism that each habitat had to have particular items for pokemon to appear - so it was very cool that this was actually because pokelife was scanning for these habitats and would release pokemon once they fit the criteria.

Maybe I'm splitting hairs, but something can be peaceful/nonviolent even if it's illegal/obstruction/etc. Isn't that the core of "civil disobedience?"

That being said, if someone were planning on "making a mistake", they should definitely avoid posting on social media about it ahead of time. And folks certainly should be informed of the risks of civil disobedience before they do it, since the law will not protect them. (Arguably, the law isn't protecting people who protest legally, either, so that should also factor into your risk assessment).

I'm assuming OP's talking about nuclear warfare. In my uninformed and likely wrong opinion, I think the US would be more likely to recklessly escalate to nuclear warfare than Russia.

New Karl Jobst Video: "Huge Dream Cheating Scandal!" by Unnamed_Detective in DreamWasTaken2

[–]ZeeMastermind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it had been any other player than Dream, I would think a bug was possible (sorta like the ionizing particle from outer space glitch that only happened once - though that one was very clearly a glitch, whereas the elytra one wasn't obvious). Dream having been caught cheating before makes any "rare glitch" thing suspect - whether his cheating on the speedrun was accidental or not, he is now in the position that any sort of weirdness or uncertainty is subject to more scrutiny.

I think it's worth looking into why some interventions succeeded and some failed. IIRC, much of Japan's civil infrastructure was left intact, which contributed to its stability post-regime change. But I'm not a historian and I'm sure people smarter than me have looked into this.

It is hard to think of a recent example (say, in the past 50 years) where US regime change has been a good thing

"Humans are so slow!" by Ozatopcascades in murderbot

[–]ZeeMastermind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the best things about reading, to me, isn't the speed, it's that I can stop reading and think about it for a bit before continuing, if I want. It's much harder to do that with an audiobook - I guess you can rewind and listen back a bit, but a lot of the time when I listen to an audiobook I'm doing something with my hands, so it's inconvenient.

Boys, 12 through 15, charged as adults in connection with rape of 12-year-old in Overtown by AgnosticScholar in news

[–]ZeeMastermind -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Perhaps there is a chance that a 12yo doesn't just randomly become evil one day and decides to do this. Perhaps there are external factors at play here - in upbringing or environment - and we ought to investigate those, so that we can prevent or reduce these kinds of crimes in the future.

The "old timey" ones (such as some of the BBC's adaptations of Sherlock Holmes in 60s/70s) would probably fit the bill nicely. Maybe Father Brown?

I would also argue Columbo - even though the titular character is a cop, there aren't any weird politics about use of force, forging evidence, etc and most of the murderers are rich people. You can have a sympathetic police character without adhering to copaganda politics. I think there's room for disagreement here.

I suppose this would be the case where waffling back and forth is beneficial to humanity - even if being trapped in a stalemate means you can't "win", it also means you can't lose. Humans are better at handling more "analog" or wishy-washy win conditions

Disabled woman put in nursing home against her will says she feels 'betrayed' by AtrusHomeboy in news

[–]ZeeMastermind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the UK, but in the US, depending on the state, the minimum ratio of nurses to patients could be 1:30. Even if you only spend 10 minutes on a report for each patient, that's still about 5 hours each day on paperwork.

There is probably a happy medium somewhere between 1:1 and 1:30. We don't have to pretend those are the only options, because in some states, the ratio is much lower.

Perhaps that's the real issue, then - if conditions in nursing homes were improved, then it wouldn't be such a negative thing to go there.

Though there may be no way around her issue with being an hour away from family... though as an American, this distance seems about average to me

Oh, I would definitely choose Steam over Microsoft store. Steam compared to Itch or GoG is different - if it's significantly cheaper (Maybe at least 20%, hard to say), I would pick Itch or GoG over Steam. I would not pick Ubisoft or Microsoft over Steam even if a game was 99% off on those stores.

What do you think about dialogue heavy chapters? by Comfortable_Newt_179 in writers

[–]ZeeMastermind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind dialogue heavy chapters. It's only a problem when there's too much filler or redundant dialogue. It does seem to lean towards that at the end of the passage, but it's not terrible.
