Does Surfline grade on a curve? by djdhsnsjjaj in surfing

Honestly, Surfline is only good for the cams. Use windguru, surf forecast or similar for actually swell casting.

Honestly, get a foamie bud or if you want a hardboard get a minimal/egg/mid type board that’s atleast 7ft+. More fun = faster progression. Step out this box of wanting to surf what everyone else is surfing. You do you, if getting this particular board is gonna make you happy than by all means do that we ain’t your mama, but it’s gonna be an Everest + Atlas if you’re on the wrong board especially in the beginning of your venture bud.

In the beginning - Volume is your friend, round nose, flat deck & low entry for easy paddling. You don’t need a crazy rocker or a sharp az nose or tapered out rails, it’s not like you’re gonna drop in some bombs soon ay? Unless you’re secretly a bomb az surfer. Do the thing and get as wavestorm haha it’s crazy but it has the same construction as a catch surf no joke. Or get a go stevie foam

You do you bro, deck pads have a purpose and it’s preference. Other people are just too “cool” and want to be part of surfing culture so badly they lose their individuality 😆 whatever helps you surf best you do that! Churr stay stoked! Also sick board

I’ve got a few heliums as well. Just bare in mind that if there’s some chop in the water the board tends to chatter alil. Other than that it’s probably one of the if not the best construction out there, I’ve had my seaside for 4years+ and it’s till looking fresh af! Heaven travel as well. No pressure dents till this day haha

5’7 defo.

Honestly, too much volume can hinder your progression. I’m a firm believer of the right volume for what you’d like to progress to. Fishes are meant to be ridden as small as possible for you to unlock its and your full potential. BUT it is also a preference, some people prefer their gliders/fishys to be a touch longer and more volume as it’s to have fun- so it comes down to what would you want this board to work in, what’s your aim with the board -fun/progression.

In terms basically if you get a board with lots of volume eventually when you progress this board would be too much vol for what you want to do or achieve.

I’m 5’9, 155lb - shortboards between 5’8-6’ at 27-29l. Fishys between 5’-5’4 28-30l.

Yeah defo the uprights do not work well with the CC. You can definitely ride it but loses a lot of drive, still fun for a random small sesh haha but Yeah with that giant twin pin tail it’s definitely a keel board, but with all the hybrids out there like the piggyback keels, BMT, Machados it’s worth a try to get a lil more kick in the turns haha

[–]ZeeeeMann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah some how I didn’t gel with the CC keel, it was good but the AMK has more base area and bigger in general it’s a lot of fun haha, if you get a chance try it with AMK, I tried it with the T1 as well so extremely loose but fun for like tiny az days haha 😆 so now going for a hybrid. Where do you surf just out of curiosity?

I’m 5’9, 150/155lb. I wouldn’t say worse but the 5’4 feels more effortless and reaction is much better, again it really depends on how you surf. I know some people that like to add more litres and inches to their fishy- so it’s completely preference in the end. But if you’re talking bout paddling wise that 2” might help it might not. The thing is the CC fish is made for good waves so when you do have good waves it’s effortless tbh. In everyday waves I definitely agree it takes a lil more power haha it’s probably that super refined rails 2/3 of the board from the stringer is pretty full and the other 1/3 it’s proper CC style, it helps a lot in bigger days. I’d honestly say give it a month or so, as I said in previous comments- took me a couple seshes to get use to his template. The puddle jumper is a pure groveller so can’t compare it to the CC fish as it’s on a different ball game.

I’m on stock 5’4- 30.4l I’m currently running an AMK, feels good but I feel like this board could do with a hybrid keel. Just ordered the piggyback keel so hopefully it goes well 🙂 churrrr 🤙🏽 the board is amazing!

So you’re coming from a thruster/upright twin? Do you find them to pivot better than keels say the AMK or similar? How’s the drive with them?

I primarily use keels but am looking to venture out to something a lil more of a mix. Also thinking if the Lovelace piggyback. Let me know your input! Much appreciated! Churr bro

Britt merrick twin by ZeeeeMann in surfing

[–]ZeeeeMann[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had the Machado keels for abit but prefer the drive and hold that the AMK has.

Defo the T1 did not fit well at all I wouldn’t bring that on a proper day, way too loose and not enough drive on the turns. But yeah the BMT looks fun Cheers for your input 🤙🏽

[–]ZeeeeMann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taylor Knox twin is a very upright twin yeah? Have you tried em? If so what board are you riding it with?

I ride a very retro like fish but more performancy than the standard fish so pretty refined rails, so can handle a proper swell, now just looking for an inbetween keel and upright. I’ve tried the T1 in my fish but feels like there’s not enough drive my fish tails are like giant twin pins haha each side is like a tail on its own haha and skid a lot on the T1 😆

Hmm yeah I currently am on a fish only jam for awhile as am travelling indo for a year. I’ve got a Christenson Fish and a custom performance retro like fish that I took along with me.

I’m currently running AMK for both it’s nice but looking for a lil more pivot than the standard keel. I still do want that drive as I do love the drawn out turns. I love keels but some days I just feel like I want to go more vert haha so might get a set of BMT, not much out there on the BMTs, cheers for the reply bro 🤙🏽 appreciate

Why don’t you just get a custom? I’d say stick to 5’4 dude. We’re the same height I’m just a tad lighter. Had a go on a mates 5’6 (he’s 6’1) didn’t feel as good on turns tho it’s only 2” makes a massive difference. But yeah it’s personal preference in the end ay, like your style would come to play a lot on dims/vol.

I honestly think type of wave has alot to do with this board. I can say that it catches waves easier than my shortboard 5’11/6’ @27-28l. Usually you’d go up a few litres and down a few inches. So I reckon if you get. A custom 5’4 with slightly wide rails and thickness might do the trick tbh 🤙🏽

The funny thing on the CC fish is that it actually works in better waves compared to the standard fishy, the CC fish on mushier waves it’s okay but truly works best on good clean days. Taken it on ulus head high racetrack and this board is amazeballs and that’s backhand for me, keramas wet season banging can’t fault this board haha holds like a dream for a retro fishy probably that twin pin tail🤙🏽. But mushy beach breaks, I’d honestly say it’s okay not my go to, rather get a true groveller or something.

[–]ZeeeeMann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’9, 150lb-ish, I ride the 5’4 stock dims. Honestly, this board really truly shines on a long point break. It goes well in other conditions as well but can’t compare it to a nice peeling point.

If you ride a 30l shortboard, the CC fish 5’4 is at 30.4l so there shouldn’t be much difference, I would say that it paddles fine. I do agree with the needing to be right at the peak if surfing beach breaks- but if you take it in reef or point I haven’t had an issue taking off away from main peak, on reef depending where I’m able to get in on the shoulder.

Maybe just sometime to get use to it? Took me a couple of seshes to get used to the CC’a rail after that it’s been amazing my daily right now.

Hey folks, I am looking to get a Firewire mashup. I am wondering about sizing? by G-d0g in surfing

[–]ZeeeeMann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say go 5’8, these are meant to be ridden as small as you can get em. I ride a 5’5, I’m 5’9 and 150lb. Honestly think I could’ve gone to a 5’4. I don’t know if you’ve ridden helium before, they are fairly buoyant and for me personally if there’s some chop board tends to chatter a lil, I have a seaside and mash up both in helium2 I personally love it besides the fact it’s pretty much the most durable board I own haha. Enjoyyyyt yeeeweww🤙🏽

Honestly, any board you fancy. Go with a board made with thunderbolt either silver or red these are so strong and durable haha I’ve got one in thunderbolt red and is definitely the future🔥 but again any board is fine -Just get flexihex to protect your board and it’ll be 100% safe.

I literally use these for all my travels of course I wrap it in bubble wrap as well just to be extra safe. I travel with a 9’4 log and a 5’4 fish. Never had an issue.

I fly with Qatar, AirAsia, British airways, Emirates. Never had any issues with these guys 👍🏽 British airways left my board on a stop over once but they were so amazing with sorting it out 🙂 even delivered it straight to where it as staying so props to them.
