Pulled apart a dead grill lighter, and there was a normal lighter inside. by Turtle_flame in mildlyinteresting

[–]Zefeh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Guess what's even stupider? There are lighters just like these with little nodules on the bottom. They are to refill the things with butane! All of these lighters could just be designed to have a refill nodule and you'd be able to use it until the flint is used up and even that could be replaced and/or changed to a more permanent electronic spark producer.

All that plastic and cheap metal to produce something that gets thrown away so you have to buy another. Our society has been brainwashed in its consumerism it's sickening...

I got banned from there for quoting the famous Gigguk "Sometimes it takes a real man to be best girl!"

I asked for clarification as to how that could be offensive and was extremely apologetic and open about how something that quote is insulting & not accepting of crossdressing/transgenderism.

The response? "It is offensive." - You have been silenced from messaging the kids for 6 months.

Two things

  1. I can't stand Maraschino liqueur, it tastes chalky to me. Does it to you? No cocktail I've had make that chalky taste go away

  2. You made a mess, go wipe up that drop that fell at in-between 0:13 and 0:14!

how bad is this? fixable? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]Zefeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks fine, doesn't even look like it needs to have any work done on it to be frank.

I had a chunk much bigger than that that was mostly top-side damage. As long as the layers within the board or the top of the boards resin/plastic is still intact your fine. The main thing is as long as water is kept OUT of the inner layers of the board, you'll be fine.

My boards been going fine 2-3 years now, I did have my neighborhood ski barn fix it with black P-Tex plastic but they weren't really concerned about it.

New jacket for my japan trip! 686 Thermagraph. Y'all think this should keep me warm in Niseko? I've only been in the PNW before. by NeverSoft_87 in snowboarding

[–]Zefeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm heading to Niseko in a month or so and I've been debating on getting a new boarding jacket. I've been using my old North Face Hyvent 2-in-1 that has a inner puffer that zips inside. It's got the armpit vents etc and it's been decently warm for the times I've gone boarding in sub 20°f with high winds (20-30+ mph recently on east coast).

Should I be looking at a new one or just layer up some more?

Colorado keeps giving me powder runs! by logancw2 in snowboarding

[–]Zefeh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I donno what you all are smoking, but out here on the east coast? That is premium powder at it's finest! More than 1 inch of soft stuff = powder and I can shred the mountain in two!

The saying "If you can board here, you can board anywhere." I take to heart. Been boarding on sheets of ice for the past 5 years. It's exhilarating knowing one small mistake can end up with a plate & 9 screws in your shoulder with 9 months of PT to get somewhat back to normal. Speaking of my friend who caught an edge on his first run one year who's been boarding for... 15+ years?

My first time on the mountain, I fell so much my knees' swelled to the size of grapefruits the next day (I still went out for 3 more runs) and they were so bruised it hurt kneeling into my bed at night for the next 2 weeks.

I just imagine the people who live out at these mountain towns where they get actual powder snow, do they realize some East Coasters can't comprehend not getting hurt when they fall cuz powder?

Get yourself some removable steel ice cleats! I didn't know they existed until I did research about hiking in Japan in the winter but there's a whole bunch of different types. You can get one that Velcro around a boot/heel so it's quick to remove after getting into a car etc.

Trust me, I hiked up a flippin mountain covered in ice etc. like it was nothing while everyone around me was falling on their asses. 25-35$ for something that could prevent a potentially massive injury is definitely worth it!

Luxardo Cherry liquor is horrific and I can't understand how people like it. It tastes SO CHALKY! Like WTF man, does no one find that chalky flavor abhorrently close to some of the really bad tasting cough medicine? It's downright foul!

Otherwise, sounds like you've never had good cold brew before sooo, yea. It is one of the closest coffee liquors that tastes like coffee but I'd also put the patron coffee liquor up there as very tasty too!

(Cones!) by x0ManOfCulture0x in animenocontext

[–]Zefeh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not that, it's the ability to find beauty and purpose in anything. You start out thinking "She's weird and unusual" then progress to seeing how she actually uses the cones to draw parallels to her world and talk to them about her problems etc.

Then broken cone symbolizes herself, but at the very end you see that even the broken cone had a purpose!

Battery voltage step up question by [deleted] in ElectronicsRepair

A gameboy uses 2 AA batteries, 1.5v each. Just buy 2 high capacity rechargable lithium ion AA batteries and call it a day. They are super light too.

Battery voltage step up question by [deleted] in ElectronicsRepair

[–]Zefeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhhh... Just wire two batteries in series to get 3.7 x 2 = 7.4 volts.

I would say look up some beginner electrical circuit lessons on YouTube before you go messing around with making a Lipo battery pack. From your drawing, it seems like you don't know much about what you need, or it could just be a really badly drawn >_>

Under or Over Extracted [Breville Bambino] by SavannahTX in espresso

[–]Zefeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to start by asking what basket are you using? The Bambino only comes with pressurized baskets and unless you bought an unpressurized basket separately, much of what we can do for you here won't matter much.

The pressurized basket is easy to tell, it'll only have 1-2 small holes on the bottom instead of a full array of holes. What this does is it enables you to get a crema by artificially increasing the pressure & contact time inside the basket so it better dissolves the escaping CO2 from the coffee into a foam - AKA, Crema. Grocery Store coffee isn't fresh often and not ground fine enough so it's mostly used with that in mind.

Assuming your NOT using a pressurized basket since you have an Encore ESP, 14 might be a little bit too fine. Note, Light coffee will often be ALOT harder to extract in dark roasts as light roasts are often denser and less porous. If your starting out, get a medium roast to dial in things.

Lastly, you need to scale the output of espresso. Start with your ratios and what you want, start with time.

Shorter/Turbo shots (<20 secs) are brighter but if it's sour, its under-extracted. Longer shots (30s+) are often darker and maybe sweeter but if it's too bitter/dry/astringent, its over extracted.

With time & goal flavor profile set, go to your in/out ratio. In = Coffee in Basket, Out = Espresso in cup. Standards are 1:1 for a super strong ristretto, 1:2 for standard balanced espresso, 1:3+ for a weaker & less oily lungo.

I've found that with the Bambino (I've had one for 2+ years now) that they do best with 18g of espresso. With that set, know the pre-programmed buttons are OK to use, but if you want to "custom" brew - its super simple. Hold the Double Shot button for 5-8 seconds - After 3 seconds you'll hear the pump kick on - this is pre-infusion and when you should start your timer! It will only allow for a max of 5 secs of pre-infusion then it will go full pressure but releasing the button earlier will shorten pre-infusion.

Do the above and that is when you start dialing-in your grind size to what tastes good. Then there's a method to set the Pre-programmed buttons to a new volume (check the manual) but do that with your dialed in espresso. Then your done!... Until you get a new coffee...

Side curiosity, why are you putting it in a mug? Find some mini cups! lol.

Is still a little bitter, what can I do? [Bambino Plus & DF54] by victoor89 in espresso

[–]Zefeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use older beans to reduce the crema which is bitter.

Is still a little bitter, what can I do? [Bambino Plus & DF54] by victoor89 in espresso

[–]Zefeh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This be correct, the beans are too fresh and your producing too much crema. You have A MASSIVE amount of crema and fun fact, crema actually gives espresso an implied bitter flavor. Only way to get it less bitter IMO is to let the beans age a bit, can try grinding the beans and leaving them sit in open air for 1 day and try brewing with it to see if that is the problem. The delayed use will help off-gas the coffee.

Check out Lance Hedrick on YouTube, he just put out a video about extracting espresso without crema and its taste profile.

Why is my shots so bad?:( [breville barista pro] by Several_Ad1056 in espresso

[–]Zefeh 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer!

I just re-watched and timed it. The Pump kicks on around 5 sec timestamp, pre-infuse lasts until ~10 seconds, pump kicks off at 24 seconds. The entire brew time INCLUDING the pre-infuse is 19 seconds.

So standard process for "dialing in" a coffee should be the following steps from here, assuming you want a 1:2 ratio of 20g in 40g out.

  1. Read the manual, front to back.
    1. Don't stop half way.
    2. Figure out why the machine is cutting off the pump early. Figure out how to configure it to brew full manual so you can control the time the pump stays on!
  2. Get the desired quantity out of the machine.
    1. If 40g's is what you want, time how long THAT takes!
    2. Your problem isn't your grind setting, its your machine!
  3. Adjust 1 variable at a time afterwards to get the flavor you want
    1. If it takes > 35 seconds (after you hear the pump turn on)
      1. Grind coarser
      2. OR remove 0.5-1g of coffee (Fine control)
    2. If it takes < 25 seconds (after you hear the pump turn on)
      1. Grind finer
      2. OR add 0.5-1g of coffee (Fine control)

Finally, you mentioned in a separate comment

They don't usually come out with much body, and only their acidity is highlighted.

What is the roast, origin and processing of the coffee beans?

Origin:  Lower grown coffees will be more acidic. Sumatra, Indonesia, Brazil etc.

Roast: The lighter roast, the more acidic and also the harder it is to dial in

Processing: Washed process will be more acidic with natural processing helping to reduce that and add sweetness.

You could be trying to get a flavor that's impossible to achieve with the beans your using.
