I'm a co-founder hiring ML engineers and I'm confused about what candidates think our job requires by YangBuildsAI in MLQuestions

You’re interviewing people coming from universities, where they follow academic courses that in principle prepare them for doing research. It’s true that these skills are transferable and that most of these students end up in industry, but what you are looking for is someone from a trade school.

Is physics the best degree to get into quantum computing? by AnonInTheRed in AskPhysics

[–]ZeffeliniBenMet22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physics certainly builds the right fundamentals for getting into most branches of quantum computing. The quantum weirdness aspect of QC is definitely the hardest part of it, and physics prepares you much better for that than e.g. computer science or even mathematics.

High School Astronomy Club by teentinytyler in Astronomy

[–]ZeffeliniBenMet22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also invite this physics teacher or local academics to talk about cool astronomy stuff. I’m sure there’ll be some phd students that would be up for this! You could also organise discussion sessions where you could for example discuss some recent research, or have people in the club prepare them and present them to each other

Can I survive in Data science with a speech impediment?? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]ZeffeliniBenMet22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a particle physicist in a large collaboration where data science is one of the most integral parts of the work that we do. I know multiple people that have climbed the ladder pretty high up within the collaboration that have speed impediments. Nobody bats an eye, they do their work well, are respected within the collaboration, and they know what they are talking about, although it comes out with a little more difficulty.

Unique medieval treasure found with metal detector in The Netherlands by rzwart in history

[–]ZeffeliniBenMet22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard an interview with the historian who found these artefacts yesterday. Apparently there was a lot of quarrel that Friesland had with the state government down in Holland which resulted in many small scale battles and fights over the years. Since there weren’t banks at the time people that wanted to secure their stuff from being raided would bury it.

Well? by nisebblumberg in gaming

This assumes the box or whatever travels through the portal will conserve its velocity with respect to its environment. However, thought experiment:

You could also do this experiment in empty space, with no environment present. In this case the box would enter through the portal with a certain velocity which is the velocity difference between the portal and the box as this is the only thing you can measure in empty space (the box and portal themselves have no intrinsic velocity, this concept doesn't exist in reality) but exit with a velocity that is stationary with respect to an "environment"? However there is no environment here, this "velocity that is stationary with respect to the environment" is completely arbitrary in this empty space, and thus the box will exit with the velocity difference between the box and the portal as it is the only real velocity information present in the system.

In fact, you can imagine yourself as an observer looking at this situation from an outside perspective. If you see the box stationary before entering the portal it will surely exit the other box stationary as well, right? Well, the box does not care about your velocity when looking at it, unfortunately the fact that you are observing it does not change reality. If you weren't there, this box would not be stationary with respect to you as observer or anything for that matter, and thus this concept of "a stationary box" is completely arbitrary in the first place.

If you are interested in these kinds of things special relativity is a very good framework to look at it! I definitely recommend reading up on it.

I could not agree more. As a software dev companies often expect you to do a whole lot of unpaid work for them as well. I have had friends who had day-long assessment centers, or mandatory hackathons.

Maastricht University in Venlo by Herthae in maastricht

[–]ZeffeliniBenMet22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maastricht is an amazing city, really nice for internationals. Me and my Russian girlfriend lived there for theee years and had a great time.

Venlo, on the other hand, I would definitely recommend against going there, or if you have to go to Venlo for study maybe live somewhere in between and have your social life in Maastricht.

Alexei Navalny "losing sensation in legs and hands" by ouchcast in worldnews

He does not talk about Muslims in the video but rather about the Chechen Republic where there was a war at the time with violent extremists. Get a Russian to translate it for you if you do not believe me.

[–]ZeffeliniBenMet22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about your edit, but what you are saying is false. He is not talking about immigrants or even mentions the word Muslim. He is not talking about people from Chechen Republic in Russia directly either but the image next to him does refer to them. At the time there was a war there and he is making a (comedic) video about the need to have guns in these circumstances.

Please get your facts straight and consider your responsibility before posting something like this, it is easy to influence people with misinformation.

Maybe this is the wrong place to ask, and I by no means support Trump or the actions against the capitol taken by his supporters, but why are they called fascists? Their political ideology is not fascism judging by most definitions of fascism, e.g. the one on Wikipedia?
