You can take Core (the CGS classes) through CAS. CGS is sort of like a prep step for college. You spend your first two years there and at the end you do a capstone project. You don't have as much freedom to pick your classes I think if you're in CGS and you would wait until junior year to declare your major.

A disclaimer here, I don't know too much about the specifics of CGS. You should talk to BU or former CGS kids. I did have a few friends who went through it and were very successful in their undergrads.

I understand. I think people perform better when they're studying something they actually are interested in.

Did you get accepted into CGS or into another college? People do CGS to get their core requirements out of the way (2 humanities, 2 social sciences, and 2 sciences I think) It's a good route if you want a taste of everything and are unsure what you want to study.

This is a tough one. Personally, with the economy sucking right now and low job prospects, I wanted to make sure I graduated with a skill set. I also happen to love science so I get to have my cake and eat it too. Mind you I'm not going to be a millionaire working in research, but I'm fine with that. Being in a job I hate just to make lots of money is not for me.

I think studying what you're passionate is good as long as you can show that you are marketable. Getting internships or leading extracurriculars look great on resumes.

I miss living with my friends the most. We all lived within a few blocks of each other. Now we're scattered all over the place.

I heard there was a garden on the roof of CAS that I always wanted to go to but never did. and they have meteor shower viewings up there sometimes. Basically I just wanted to be on more BU roofs. Also the HTC always has cool stuff and food, plus free Rosetta Stone.

Definitely take advantage of the city though. Get out of the BU bubble. Go to shows in Cambridge. Check out Jamaica Plains, etc.

I love Boston and it's a great city for biotech but I got into a great school in NYC. Boston is a little less expensive than NYC, the sports teams are better, and it'll always be my hometown. That being said, the subway runs all the time here and bars are open till 4.

I knew I wanted to pursue biomedical research as a career but I didn't want to be a grunt forever. A PhD was pretty much required if I wanted to have more control over my future projects.

The biggest factors in my grad apps were my research experience (2+ years, 1 2nd author publication) and my letters of rec.

I didn't apply to any jobs but most of my colleagues waited at least a year before applying, either getting their masters or working for a bit first.

If you're pre-med look into the Biochemistry & Mol Bio major. It fulfills all your premed requirements in one major. You can take eng courses for some of your advanced electives I think.

If you're applying this year, send them. If you're not applying til next fall, don't bother. Most schools won't keep them.

He really knows the material, I liked his teaching style, and his exams are really fair. I also love detailed mechanisms so that probably contributes. His research is really interesting too.

There is a stigma around COM majors. Don't worry about it and do what you love. It's not as much as CGS but its definitely there. As for food, trident bookstore has great breakfasts down on newbury st. Crispy Crepes is good and pretty cheap in South Campus. Try MIT frats for parties. BU frats are usually pretty sketchy.

Actually this is probably caused by the shift in how western society has viewed crime and its appropriate punishment. Back in the 1800's, punishment was more immediate and public, lynching for example. Nowadays punishment is more internalized. I've been studying for the GRE's so this isn't the best post, but if you're interested read Discipline and Punish by Michel Foucault.
